Weight gain after bereavement. Help!

My DH passed away at xmas time. Ive been off work since.
Prior to his death I was around 10 stone 7lb (im 5ft10) and was definitely slim although wobbly. My main form of exercise was running (about 20 miles a week). I gave up running and took up weight training/circuits after he died but my diet has been shit. My meals are very healthy but I pick on rubbish and comfort eat.
I haven't weigjed but I'd guess ive put on a stone - a stone and a half, maybe more.
Ive started running again (5/6 miles 4 times a week) and am doing 2 circuits classes a week. I have no idea what/ how much I should be eating.
Please please help. It's all I can think about. I get bigger everytime I look in the mirror.

Well I don't see much/ any difference between the two pics tbh and I would kill to look like either of them! But I do find MyFitnessPal good for tracking calories and exercise to make sure I'm not eating more than I think. I have a Garmin vivofit to track steps too.

I know im not imagining it because my jeans are tight and I can't do up the zip on my wedding dress anymore. Ive used my fitness pal in the past and ive just logged on and looked at my diary from this time 2 years ago. During the summer holidays that year I lost over a stone so I think I'll use that diary and stick to what I ate then, just maybe up the protein portions slightly as I wasn't training as hard then as I am now? From the looks of things I was eating about 1300-1400 cals a day then

Sorry for your loss of DH op. I really don't think your weight gain is huge considering the change in your lifestyle. Just get back on Mfp and log your food and exercise for a while until you get back into healthy habits. Sending you a hug X

Hi Mama,
Sounds to me like you need to stop giving yourself a hard time. I've never had something so awful happen to me and I weigh much more than you do. Hmm
From what you are describing you are now doing you will soon lose any extra weight you feel like you are carrying. General advice for women dieting is that 3000kcal = roughly 1 pound of fat loss. Reducing you calories intake to 1500 per day should equate to roughly 1-2lb per week. My advice is the slower you lose it, the longer is stays off!
However you look fab and I wouldn't worry about it too much Smile

Oh OP I'm so very sorry that you lost your husband.

I know this might sound obvious but do you think you might be channelling your grief into obsessing about losing weight?

Your body looked great before and after honestly.

Do you have lots of support from family and friends? Thanks

Hi Mama. I hope you're doing as well as you can be and that mil has backed off. I'd love your figure but it's about how you feel about yourself really. Try cutting down on the comfort carbs (bread is my downfall and I haven't had any for months now) and up the water, the exercise and the veggies and I bet you'll be happier in weeks.
I hope the DC's are ok.

Hi Lolimax - I'll update the other thread later but it's all been quite quiet. DC have had no contact with her for a month now and my house sold last week.

I know the weight gain isn't huge in the grand scheme of things but it's all I can think about. Yesterday was a rest day exercise wise and I had a 2 egg omlette with mushrooms and spinach for breakfast, natural yogurt with a scoop of protein mid morning, chicken and loads of salad for lunch, 2 chicken heck sausages at 3.30pm and turkey stir fry for tea. Today's food plan looks pretty much the same except I had a protein shake and porridge for breakfast after a 5 mile run.

In some ways I look better than I did before and I know I have put on Muscle from the weight training. I have a bum which I never had before. But I also have far more of a belly.

I probably am using this to distract me from my grief in some ways. But I'm coping and that's the main thing I guess.
