Hello! After my moany thread about the diet nurse yesterday, someone suggested a more specific weight loss group where we can chat about how to juggle losing weight with disabilities that might hinder exercise or eating well, so here it is please join in so I'm not a Billy no mates

I'm OhHolyFuck, Im a single parent to two boys (5 and 3) and a puppy
I'd like to lose around 5 stone ideally
Currently being investigated for cfs/me so exercise is often difficult as I'm either too tired to do it or can do it on a good day but then feel terrible for a few days after

Hi, good idea.

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and am a wheelchair user. Need to lose a lot. It feels overwhelming and exercise that's enough to burn calories etc is impossible. I am still active in my own way - but things like walking, swimming is out for me. (Love swimming, just no suitable pools).

Am following the Slimming World diet. Have a pound to lose to have lost 1.5 stone. Maintained this week. Was Slimmer of the Month at my group in June after losing I think 10.5 in the month.

Have a long, tiring day today which are the days I struggle to get through. Need to plan ahead and take fruit, lunch and other snacks so I'm not tempted by bad stuff.

So that's me!

Hello. I'm HRF, HerRoyal, or just Fatty.

I'm a mum to 3 DC. DS1 is 7, DD is 2 and DS2 will be 1 at the beginning of August.
I have SPD that didn't go away. Physio not very helpful, and waiting on a referral to a new one. I'm on pain killers. Dr has said not to worry about my weight until youngest is 2, but I've gone from a size 8-10 to a size 18. I can't not worry. I hate it. I hate being in pain. I hate having to use crutches (which I can't do most of the time as I am pushing a pram with one hand while holding a toddler with the other)
I volunteer in a nursery 2 days a week, so I can go back to college in September and get my childcare level 3.
I do have a dp but we don't live together. He helps out when he can. He does a lot of my housework for me as it hurts so much. But it's usually just me.
I'm obese. I need to shift it. I want to lose around 6 stone.

Hello I'm DreamCloud.

I have CFS/ME .

I have 3 stone to lose and not much motivation because I'm so bloody knackered!

I have cfs/me and have found that doing the 18:6 daily fast has helped me not put in excess weight.

I also read that daily fasting is supposedly good for cell renewal so thought it'd be with a go :o

I do actually feel better for eating this way as I don't feel like I'm eating energy processing food I don't need (in not moving around enough to warrant eating any more)

I know the guidance from cfs /me clinics is to rest regularly to maintain blood sugar levels but I am to get a slump in energy if I eat early in the day. (first meal of the day is at about 2pm then second meal at about 6.30pm).

Eat regularly not rest regularly - although that is also relevant :o

Hello everyone!

Nice to see other people with me/cfs (although I'm sorry you have it to if you know what I mean?!)

I've been doing what the diet nurse said, well as best I can so yesterday had
B - cheese on toast (at about 11am)
L - gammon and cauliflower mash
D - yoghurt with cherries and strawberries, options hot chocolate
3 coffees and a bottle of tonic water, no exercise though

And today
B - banana pancakes with strawberries
L - fajita
D - more yoghurt with fruit and a hot chocolate
1 coffee, 4 diet cokes
Also Ds1 had a birthday party in a park so managed a bit of walking around with ds2 and the dog

Going to give it two weeks of doing what she said and then go back and see her, I need to have lost between 2-4kg before she'll give me orlistat which is what I really want

How's everyone else doing? Ready for a good week?

That looks like a reasonable starting point. Has the dietician given you a calorie controlled diet?

Is it very different to your diet before?

I'd be tempted to replace cheese on toast with eggs on toast - the protein will keep you fuller for longer.

Re: yoghurts - try the arla brand or fage greek yoghurt as these are higher in protein than diet type yoghurts.

Any chance of ditching the caffeine and just drinking water?

Planning what you're going to eat is a good idea and will help keep you on the straight and narrow - hope today is ok.

Report
OhHolyFuck · 11/07/2016 13:35

Not calorie controlled, tbh just a print out saying things like 'eat only 2 slices of bread a day' and 'swap full fat coke for the diet version'

My diet before was to eat nothing all day but coffee, eat dinner with the kids at 4pm and then snack at 7/8pm when they went to bed

The cheese on toast wasn't great I agree (although it was 50% reduced fat cheese on nimble bread) but the shopping doesn't come til Tuesday so I was just trying to do my best on what I had in

The nurse specifically said I only had to have fat-free yoghurts, I agree that a full fat, low sugar, high protein option would be better but I want to go by the book for a fortnight so she can't call me on anything at the next appointment (keeping a food diary)

No chance of ditching the coffee, I'm afraid! It wouldn't be safe for humanity!

Oh I wasn't meaning to be critical of what you'd had - sorry if you thought I was Blush.

Yes good idea to stick to what she's suggested then so when you go back you know exactly what you've eaten.

I have weigh-in tonight. I need to lose a pound to get 1.5 stone. Last week I stayed the same, and it was my birthday in Monday so I did have a meal out. Just have to hope!

Tomorrow I'm going on a picnic and have spent the afternoon trying yo make free things so I'm not tempted. Cooking is a struggle, but did have help.

We made a free quiche, savoury rice, potato salad, coleslaw, syns free crisps and a salad.

Sounds like you're prepared glitter, I find that's where I go wrong, having food 'on the go' so well done on your planning
Hope your weigh-in goes well

Hey everyone! I succumbed to Amazon's Prime Day and bought a Withings Smart Body Analyzer thing, because my old scales picked a weight at random. And now I've set it up and the truth of where I am is so hideous I really have to do something about it.

So here I am. I have psoriatic arthritis and a prolapsed disc, so I'm under the pain management team with a set of limits on my activity. So a maximum of 2000 steps per day, and time limits on being upright or sitting in a more reclined position until we find a baseline I can consistently achieve. I use a mixture of gutter crutches and a wheelchair to get about, although because of my back I can't self-propel.

I have just spent a chunk of the afternoon procrastinating installing suitable apps on my phone to get different systems to work together and give me a better picture of what I'm doing right and wrong. But with the little exercise I can do to burn the fat, I'm feeling weak at how little I'll have to eat if I'm to lose any weight. And I need to lose a lot Sad

Hope you don't mind me joining you.

Hi energu

I've been getting lots of steps in lately. Pokemon go is great. It's leaving me very sore though.

I have cauda equina.
I've lost my weight and massively improved my fitness tho but I'll stick around to offer advice/support if that's ok?

Pokemon Go is fantastic for getting people to move, I think. It's why I started playing its predecessor 3 years ago. From my experience of playing Ingress, there's always one more thing a little further on for you to grab before you go home :)

This I'd actually be really interested to know how you lost weight and improved fitness with cauda equina, because that's no easy feat.

I started with an exercise on the lowest resistance I managed 5 mins the first time and it hurt a lot .. slowly increased resistance and time.
Then I tried a real bike which was surprisingly easier than walking.
Then I walked pushing a running buggy (I stopped using my stick)
More walking.
Then after 6 months of that I joined a gym doing core work in classes for disabilities, then joined other classes I liked the look of.
Now you wouldn't know I am disabled unless I told you. I do HIIT classes, spinning, weight lifting and people would tell you I'm fit.
I've gone from dragging my left leg when I walk to walking with leg weights.
I've lost 7 and a half stones aswell

Last Year I was looking at mobility scooters because I couldn't walk the mile round trip to get my daughter to nursery.
In May this year I walked 24 miles, including 3 mountains for cancer research

Hey, please can I join you all? I have psoriatic arthritis, under active thyroid and few other things. Have been on prednisolone for 18 months, high dose to start with and have gained 25kg! I was overweigt to begin with so need to shift extra plus more. I'd like to get back to healthy bmi as we are hoping to ttc in next couple of years.

I'm seeing dietician due to my extreme weight gain in such short time. He has advised a low gi diet to reduce my steroid cravings and keep my blood sugar stable. I've lost 5kg in 8 weeks and hope to continue to lose 2lb a week.

I need to lose 4 stone. I find it difficult because I'm on a load of heavy duty pain medication for problems caused by prior cancer treatment. I'm also constantly exhausted. So exercise can be low on my priorities...will check back here for some encouragement I think!
