Can't stick to a diet for more than a few days

.. and it's beginning to really get to me. I lost 4 stone over a two year period with some periods of loss and some of stabilistation, I managed to get to my goal weight for my wedding with a lot of will power and grit, mainly through low carbing.

Anyway I was finally happy with my body for a little while, then as soon as the wedding was over I went mad and started really overeating, we were at an all inclusive for the honeymoon and let's just say I went there a size 12 and came back a size 14.

Thought oh I can just lose it again but I can't muster up the willpower! I am ok for the first few days of any diet, then I just think oh f*ck it and give in to temptation mainly in the evenings when I turn into the nibble monster.

I bought some new clothes in my new size earlier in the year and now I can't wear them. I'm about 10lbs higher than I was at my lowest (which I was relatively happy with), so not oodles of weight to lose but my body doesn't feel right at this weight, too flabby and heavy.

Please can someone tell me how to stick to a diet for more than a few days, I reckon I need at least 6 weeks to shift it! What makes it worse is I travel for work every couple of weeks and then my willpower really goes out of the window as there's hotel stays, motorway stops, cakes in meetings etc.

Log everything you eat and I mean everything no cheating. It'll make you think twice if you have to record it!

Sign up for My Fitness Pal and start tracking those calories. You should be able to lose 10 lbs in 10 weeks no problem.

Get your partner on board, and don't keep temptations in the house if they are that enticing. If I have leftovers from cheat day I put them in the freezer immediately to stop easy access.

In terms of travel, I would either try and save up calories for cheat meals while on the road, or do some research and pre-plan what you will eat. MFP is great for that. Bring food with you if you have to.

For meetings, tell yourself you can have all the cake you want after you hit your target. Tell your co-workers you have an upset stomach if they push it on you. Skip drinks after for the same reason. Even you aim to just eat at maintenance during work stuff, you can get back on track when you're home.

10 weeks is nothing. Set a goal and take it up as a personal challenge. You've got this. :)

You could try 5:2, that way you're only dieting 2 days a week? I find it helps me as I don't feel like I'm missing out the rest of the time.

Thanks. I don't want to count calories or do 5:2. I have had ED in past, 5:2 is not recommended for people with ED.
I have lost weight before doing low carb, that's what works for me when I have the motivation it's just staying motivated that's difficult!

Maybe i can bring a healthy alternative into meetings so that I can have a nibble on something without it breaking the diet?

I remember reading that most people give up diets on day three, because that's when your bodies starts to notice and starts to accomadation the change. Eg. If you cut out coco cola, then it kicks in on day three.

i find I do 5:2 in reverse. Ie. Try to diet Monday to Friday, then relax slightly during the weekend.

If you are a nibble monster in the evening, then find some healthy snacks. - fruit, raw carrot dried fruit etc. Also, if you always tend to nibble on crisps etc, then don't gave them in the house. If they are not in the house, you can't eat them.

For travel and meetings, only allow a cake on a Friday.

Also, try to go for a short walk mist days. Even a 10 minute walk us better than nothing.

Slimming world is a pretty good diet if you like to eat and especially nibble.

I have lost 15.5lbs in about 10 weeks I think. So about 1.5lbs a week on average and I genuinely don't feel deprived. There are low carb days you can do and I only really have carbs once a day anyway.

There are loads of free foods to nibble on. Which is absolutely fine and still on plan as long as you have fruit/veg/salad with it. And I also have a g and t most days.

I try and eat cleanly on it too. So avoid a billion yoghurts and mug shots. I just eat low fat low sugar non processed meals. Salad or Hm soup for lunch. A proper tea with a few modifications here and there and just make sure at least 1/3 of what I eat is veg/salad or fruit.

The problem(for me) with slimming world is that it's low fat. I can't do low fat dieting because I need a certain amount of fat to feel satisfied and I can't fill up on carbs as I'm a diabetic. So no fruit either with the occasional exception of berries. I have done low carb high fat successfully several times now and it works for me, so it's not that I don't know which diet to do, it's just sticking to it that's the bugger!

I have been eating a lot more healthily the past few days which has tamed the binge-monster a little bit. I think I'm going to have to take it slow and steady.

My experience has been that the first time I lost a fair amount of weight it was relatively easy to stick to the diet and the weight came off fairly quickly. Subsequent attempts have been much more difficult and the weight hasn't come off as easily. I think the more you diet the more you mess with your metabolism and make it more difficult to lose and stay motivated!

Sorry, that's not particularly helpful Sad. You have my sympathies!
