Be cruel. Give me short, sharp reasons to lose weight!

Looking for motivation really.

I've lost two stone over the last year. I've tried to be sensible and do it slowly, but I've lost my drive for it. So I need your reasons to keep going. I need to lose another stone at least.

So, be as short, sharp and honest as you like. I need to be told. I will use one every day as a reminder to stop eating crisps and cake.

Thank you I think

The thing that really made me start losing weight was thinking of all the things over the years that I missed out on and didn't try because I was overweight and unfit.

All the nights out that I spent desperately avoiding cameras instead of just having fun.

That sick feeling in the pit of your stomach when you see someone with a camera.

Being able to walk into any shop and picking up a size 6/8/10/12/14 whatever you're happy with and feeling confident, not hiding away in the same baggy clothes.

How have you lost the weight so far? Maybe you need to mix it up a bit to keep you interested. So for example, if you've been calorie counting, try LCHF or 5:2.

What do you do for exercise? Do classes interest you or could you walk more in the lighter mornings/evenings?

It is hard, really hard. I've still got about 10kg to shift. I'm getting there but it is a slow process. Although I want to lose it all instantly, it took me 5-6 years to put it on.

Your knees will thank you. Maybe not yet but in later years.

Think of your back and your knees!
I've recently joined slimming world as I have 4 stone to lose and have been in denial. But the turning point for me was trying to tie up my trainer laces and something getting in the way. It was my stomach. That has never happened before. Then struggling to paint my toenails. I just thought the time has come to tackle this problem!
Good luck.

Health, wealth and happiness.

I was going to say because your fat which would have made me laugh but you may not share my humour.

Think about how you felt before you lost the weight you have already lost and how great you feel now, you could feel even better.

Thank you for your messages so far. I'm going to save one to my phone screen every day, and when I feel like cheating I'll remind myself. So, I've got on my list so far:

Not hiding from cameras (important as I want to photographed with my lovely granddaughter
Wanting to be able to shop for good quality clothes in normal sizes (again important as for the first time ever I can afford to buy decent clothes)
Caring for my knees and not looking at having joint replacements
Looking after my back (which is at times fragile)
Being able to tie my laces
Being able to paint my toenails

I will add:
Being afraid of needing another prolapse operation (2 already)
I REALLY don't want diabetes
Or a heart attack
Definitely not a stroke

This is going to spur me on.... any more?

How about not worrying if the airplane seatbelt will fit.

Or how big the person sitting next to you will be.

Worrying if a chair will be able to support you, it will break.

I have lost 1st 10lb so far, have a lot more to go.

I also need motivation to lose a bit of weight. I lost about 4 stone after I stopped BFing DD, but I've gained over a stone since Christmas due to medication change. I struggle with motivation due to past issues with ED - for me it's difficult to stay off the slippery slope.

My main motivation is that the younger you are, the easier it is to lose weight. That's been my experience anyway. So I need to get healthy now, as it only get harder. Plus the risk of stroke, I've lost 2 grandparents to it, & nearly lost my dad too. Plus painful feet / joints - I already wear orthotic shoe supports. Plus, I have a wardrobe of clothes from when I was a healthy weight, most of which would fit my 4yo DD better than me at present.

I don't ever want my dc trying the cabbage soup diet/ww/sw/Atkins etc and I don't want them to experience all those negative feelings that come with being overweight. I need to show them what a normal diet is. It's about balance, not creating crisps out of pasta or the family having pizza and chips while Mum has chicken salad and then a family sized bar of chocolate after bedtime

From the NHS website...

[not saying you are obese but this is interesting...]

Being obese can also increase your risk of developing many potentially serious health conditions, including:

  • type 2 diabetes – a condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high
  • high blood pressure
  • high cholesterol and atherosclerosis (where fatty deposits narrow your arteries), which can lead to coronary heart disease and stroke
  • asthma
  • metabolic syndrome – a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity
  • several types of cancer, including bowel cancer, breast cancer and womb cancer
  • gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) – where stomach acid leaks out of the stomach and into the oesophagus (gullet)
  • gallstones – small stones, usually made of cholesterol, that form in the gallbladder
  • reduced fertility
  • osteoarthritis – a condition involving pain and stiffness in your joints
  • sleep apnoea – a condition that causes interrupted breathing during sleep, which can lead to daytime sleepiness with an increased risk of road traffic accidents, as well as a greater risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease
  • liver disease and kidney disease
  • pregnancy complications, such as gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia (when a woman experiences a potentially dangerous rise in blood pressure during pregnancy)

Being able to rock a sharp suit or fabulous jeans/boots/sunglasses combo when you need to verbally kick someone's ass. Works better if you're strutting your stuff feeling like a strong, 'together' person in the way out.

And all the health stuff, obvs Wink

Don't know if you've got any holidays planned, but even if you haven't you're likely to be wanting to wear summery clothes soon which are so much less forgiving than winter clothes. I've not had much to lose, but I've lost around 10lb so far this year and feeling/looking so much better. You'll also be more comfortable if the weather is hot.

You'll die sooner if you're not a healthy weight.
