Need to lose 2 stone - addicted to sugar

Thecatgotmytongue · 29/05/2016 22:57

I need to lose 2 stone and I'm definitely addicted to sugar, I eat lots of chocolate and sweets.

I've zero willpower, but really want to lose weight. I've followed a low carb diet before, but don't know if I can manage now. My weakness is comfort eating and the last year has been extremely tough.

Anyone like to join me for motivation? Maybe we can exchange recipes, ideas? Weigh in together?

I'm 12 stone 3 and would like to get down to 10 stone 7 or less. I'm 5'7 and 51 years, so age is not on my side!

I definitely have a sweet tooth too! I've now lost 1st 13lbs through Slimming World. I'm still having my chocolate treats but less of them. Willpower is a must have! Try a cadburys highlights drink at night to help with the craving.

I have no willpower! I don't like the taste of sweetener, so don't have things like Highlights Sad

Check out Easyloss apps. There's a sugar one. It is weight loss hypnosis. The easiest way to find them is by doing a search on "James Holmes" in the App Store.

I recommended this to a friend who after listening immediately stopped eating cakes and sweets and is almost 2 stone down in 6 weeks.

I used to have a sweet tooth too. Now I follow a health plan that reduces my blood sugar / glucose levels and all that. It's basically a low carb, high fat vs higher protein diet (which I alternate fat and protein and not have together). I am losing weight slowly but surely. And importantly I no longer have sweet food cravings and constantly feel full and have enough food to never miss out (eg can go to restaurants and eat really good meals). It's easy to follow when you find a plan that works, and I am motivated because I feel way better.
I hope you find a plan that suits you and can get started soon it will change your life and you will feel better about everything :)

Thanks. I've followed lowcarb diet before and it was successful for weight loss, but I found it difficult to stick to because it's very restrictive and also expensive and I worried constantly about bad breath. It's difficult to stick to when out and about, as well.

Can you share details of your health plan?

Yeah there are a few extra foods I eat which now which are a bit more costly, like almond flour, coconut flour, whey protein for shakes (I used to have one shake a day owhen I started for my sweet fix but less so now and no I don't buy into a product just a protein powder that works for me), and I eat more healthy meats and vegetables (less fruits because of the sugar levels). I follow something called Trim Healthy Mama. There's a book which I do have but all the information is already online on how to eat different foods at different times. There are Pinterest pages devoted to different meals. Basically you eat less than 45g of carbs per meal, and you mix your meals up between having either an S meals these are more fat based, and E meals which are protein based. They have meals which sit between this too. I hope this helps.
Have a read up on it and if you want any information of tips feel free to message me :)

Also a sugar addict.

5 Months of no sugar following a major health scare. All going really well until last week when I fell spectacularly off the wagon.

Trying to climb back on today after a week of eating rubbish.

You can do it OP amd it is relatively easy to give up sugar (two weeks of cravings, headaches etc - then you will feel amazing) but once an addict, always an addict. The battle is about longer term abstinence !!

Good luck. I have just been to Sainsburys and filled my trolley with Veg. That keeps you full, stops the blood sugar spikes and is your secret weapon in stopping sugar cravings !!

I've just been reading a book which claims that it isn't necessary to go completely low carb, but just to aim to cut out refined carbs, so basically processed foods containing sugar and wheat etc, but that natural carbs are healthy so all fruits and vegetables and even potatoes are fine. There's an emphasis on including fat and moderate protein too. Maybe you'd find that less daunting than going fully 'Low Carb'?

I've had a really sweet tooth but started taking magnesium supplement and eat a lot of natural plain full fat yoghurt, nuts, seeds, fruit as snacks and I've virtually lost all the chocolate cravings

TheCat ** Sad sorry you have been here too. its the easiest way to feel good short term but then I feel bad for being so overweight (I need to lose about 2 st too) but then I can exercise cos I'm on my own with DD so I eat more so that I don't feel bad about being fat...

Ironically DD exercises a lot, but mostly at times when I can't join in...

H and I have our first counselling session this evening. I have already eaten a double decker and have ordered a vanilla slice for lunch... Sadly that's probably the tip of the iceberg.

I'm fine, thanks, it was just a bit scary. They did an ecg and it was fine, so now I've to go back for blood tests. At least that's stopped me eating rubbish tonight, as I've to fast from ten p.m. Grin

Not a great day food wise. I need to get my act together, check out some of the suggestions.
