Own up - Are you greedy? Do you love food?

I am. I do.
I've been on a "diet" for most of my adult life and have usually been at least a stone overweight, but now at the age of 52 I'm LOADS over that - but I love cooking, I love nice flavours and I eat enough to keep a navvy going. Tonight for example I fancied a curry and only had a few bits of veg wilting in the bottom of the fridge - I know how to make a nice Slimming World curry but it's not quite as nice without a load of oil, then I thought I should make healthy boiled rice but decided roti would be better (and it was)
How do you slimming "foodies" control yourself? I'm ok without sweeties, puddings, pies etc .and I suppose I am guilty of fooling myself thinking my food is healthy, but obviously I'm eating too much of it, adding things that shouldn't be there so it tastes better and not moving around enough. Guess I'm asking for recipes you know with a lot of flavours, vegetarian..and maybe oriental but anything tasty that you slimmers who love food have as a secret weapon to weight loss and health - Thank you dieters

Look at the easy loss app - easy guidelines to follow and is working brilliantly for me (averaging 2lb loss per week) without feeling like a diet at all

Thanks Mael...I will have a look at that - What's your favourite meal from there if you don't mind me asking - I need inspiration . I actually do better in winter with soups and stews and what have you....summer for me is all breads and oil and cheese and nice things like that - All the while telling myself it's a salad and the tummy is returning

I genuinely just eat whatever I fancy, I just stop when I'm no longer hungry - had pie and chips tonight smile love making risottos, curries and stir fry as well

Me! I have such a healthy diet. Cook love,y food from scratch, loads of veg, good fats, hardly any sugar. Just too much of it I guess as I am fat! I have to constantly deny myself or I just get fatter and fatter, and all the while I see my thin friends eating doughnuts and chocolate biscuits 😭 I used to love baking but I've pretty much given it up.

I find the only thing that works for me, very slowly but steadily, is 5:2. It is miserable for 2 days a week but at least I can enjoy my food for the other 5.

Need to get back on it.

Clever, I've never tried the 5:2 diet. The only time I got proper slim was doing Slimming World, without cheating, years ago. I probably could do it again but I do find the recipes a bit limiting even though you are supposedly able to eat as much veg as you want.
Mael, I did look at your diet but it looks a bit complicated, I'm not sure I am able to change the way I think at this point in my life, although I did manage to stop eating after one bowl of curry last night - hurray!

Have you looked at the hairy bikers book? The program was full of healthy versions of things like roast dinner, curry, full English.

I did slimming world years ago. I absolutely adore my food and this was one of the things I couldn't get to grips with, the proper mouth feel of gorgeous, tasty food cooked with butter and proper oils. Not nasty fry light and 0% this that and the other. Oh and don't get me started on the artificial sweeteners, just eat another muller light! confused

I couldn't do it long term so now I've got into the habit of using my fitness pal and basically eating what I want but stopping when I'm full like pp said. It's working. And exercising. Simple wink

I think most people love food! We are pretty much programmed to. And who doesn't like nice flavours and tasty recipes? Reducing portion sizes, cutting the amount of fat you add to things, plus avoiding sweet stuff except at the weekend - doing those will make you lose weight without having to look for a load of new slimming recipes.

Me. I have 2 saving graces:

1. I'm a terrible cook and I CBA to do much more than wrap a salmon or chicken breast in foil and put it in the oven to have with some veg or salad. I picked up the Joe Wicks book today but it looked like effort.

2. I love running and doing weights.

Yes. I love food. And eating, and all the lovely comfort, social stuff that goes with it.

I've not seen the Hairy Bikers book, I like 'em but they look like a couple of fellas who also like a good feed.
I agree with you Merciful, my portion sizes are too much (throw back from my Slimming World days I think, which is fine if you aren't adding the oil and the dressings and all the other things I don't to want to miss out on)
I'm just a bit stuck and it probably would be easier/tastier if I did eat chicken and other white meat, but I don't. I am going to search further online for tasty, low fat, vegetarian meals. I'm craving after Oriental type foods at the moment. Miso soup is ok with a lot of nice things added and tofu isn't so bad deep fried - any Oriental foodies out there that don't cook with fish or meat?
