My Fitness Pal and 1200 calories

sky1010 · 17/01/2016 16:26

I have been trying to use My Fitness Pal, but the 1200 calorie allowance is annoying me.

I am 5 foot tall, and my total daily calorie expenditure is 1300 calories. 1200 calories is too much for me to lose 2 pounds a week.

Is there any way of taking it off? Or another app which isn't so strict?

I think the argument from mfp is that it's difficult to eat less than 1200 calories and meet your nutritional needs. I suspect that if your TDEE is 1300 calories, which does seem awfully low, you don't want to be losing 2lbs a week.

I'm not wholly convinced, personally, and don't think MFP is much cop for people who have unusually low or high tdee. You could just ignore the annoying messages that pop up.

By 1300 calories, do you mean basal metabolic rate or tdee?

I have an obese BMI and am 5 foot, I really do need to be losing 2 pounds a week Sad

I am meeting my nutritional requirements and am not hungry, but my fitness pal doesn't work properly when you eat under. It doesn't project your weight in coming weeks or alter your time to reach goal if you eat under 1200, it just tells you off.

It's the amount my body needs to run based on me being 'sedentary'

Are you sure on your numbers? Is 1300 not your BMR, the calories you use just to stay alive?
I have run a calculation using a weight of 10stone, height 5 foot and age 35 and got a BMR of 1375 and a sedentary TDEE of 1647.
So someone sedentary 35 years and 10 stone needs 1647 cals to stay the same.
To eat at 1200 as above would give you a deficit of + 400 a day.

I often eat less than the 1200 calories and whilst MFP does tell me off it still predicts my weight loss in coming weeks?

As long as you over 1000 then MFP works correctly
