I just want to eat healthily really, nothing faddy, and not paul McKenna! Has anyone got a recommendation for a good book to give me a kick up the bum?

I quite like Cameron Diaz's Body Book for not being gimmicky, it's not massively 'get your arse in gear' harsh but it does make me think why am I being unhealthy when I have this info if that makes sense?

Paul McKenna is just all about "mindful eating" which we could all do with doing. Only eating when you are truly hungry, eating what you are hungry for, thinking about the impact that food will have on your body and stopping as soon as you feel satisfied. Eat mindfully and you will lose weight. So, what about having a look on amazon for mindful eating books and look at the reviews. Lots there.

Why not go to sw. A friend of mine easily 3 stone overweight has nearly lost her first stone since end of sept.

She says she loves the diet. Is not hungry and wished shed joined earlier.

I would recommend Eating Less by Gillian Riley. It's a book that has been round for some time and it really looks at the motivation and excuses that people give for over eating. It is especially useful if you are prone to bingeing. I have cut down on portion sizes, stopped eating between meals and stopped binge eating. This has resulted in losing 30lbs since August and do not feel deprived as I am eating lovely indulgent healthy food. I am also using a fitbit to make sure that I am active and burning off the calories. I hope I don't sound too smug about this but for me understanding why I was driven to overeat has been the catalyst for change.

I like Clean & Lean by James Duigan - nothing daddy, just common sense

Thanks all. Not interested in Paul McKenna / mindful eating - have read lots on this before and just didn't motivate me. Sw is a no go - I'm not overweight, but would like to lose about a stone. And I guess I could easily lose the weight if I could be bothered, it's the motivation that's lacking with me

The other books sound really interesting, thanks all :)

I don't get that you are not interested in mindful eating. Mindful eating is just being in control of what you put in your mouth and the only way to lose weight and keep it off, forever. Diets don't work longterm that's why so many people like yourself keep trying to find the next new diet that will be "the one". Its never easy but to lose weight you have to be responsible for what you eat yourself. Mindless eating is what causes weight gain.

Paul McKenna has not invented anything new. Being conscious of what you put in your mouth and how it will affect your body is something we should all be doing but dieting has taken away peoples abilities to know when they are hungry and when they have had enough.

There is no miracle book out there, just stop overeating and you will find the weight will come off if you are honest with yourself.

Wheat belly or a escape the diet trap. Both low carb but helped me lose that extra half a stone.

Comes back when I don't follow but I guess that's the way or rolls when we are not over weight to begin with?

Thanks stone hah yes it's all too easy to ignore weight gain when you're a "healthy" weight anyway, but I could certainly be much much healthier and could look better too!
