Calling all Grinches! Who wants to lose weight in December?

FrancisdeSales · 30/11/2015 00:53

I have to start watching what I eat and exercise as I am stuck in a rut! It may be bad timing but I don't care. My goal is 2lb a week so 8lb by the end of Dec. I am 159 lb right now (11 stone 5 lb). Please come and join in my insanity - I am also joining a gym this week.

I'll join

Put some on lately due to thinking 'well, I'll be overeating through Xmas anyway'

Wrong mindset!! I hate Christmas overindulgence, I feel unwell every year from rich food and too much alcohol

Back low carbing today I think

Yes, I'm in. I need to shake off a good 15lbs and although I don't need to get rid of it quickly (hopefully between now and March) I do need to get through this month with adding to the damage. If I can get to the end of December a few pounds down then I'd be delighted.

But nothing says Christmas to me more than stuffing my face with so much food that I barely move so I could do with a bit of accountability and mince pie crisis support. So, yeah, thanks for this thread.

Without, without adding to the damage. Honestly, this self sabotage is ridiculous.

Yes yes yes!! I could have written this and I'm the same starting weight as you OP. I've started low-carbing again today. I need to lose as much as possible by NYE or the beautiful dress I've got for a black tie ball won't fit and I've been burying my head in the sand over this as well as eating like a pig

So it's time to get serious. Had a really busy day so far, so have just snacked on cucumber, peppers and cheese plus green tea. Turned down a croissant at a friends this morning which was a first Grin Now just a healthy dinner to come up with. easier said then done as I haven't got a cooker or hob at the moment Confused

How have you been getting on today?

Me! I've been low carbing for a week now and I've lost 8lbs. Currently 14st 2lbs at 5' 4.5 and would like another half a stone off in December.

I'm only planning to "take off" the evening of the 11th for my work night out, plus the 25th and 26th. Historically I've gained anything from 5 to 10lbs in December, which just sets me back massively for the rest of the year Angry

Wow great Grinch turnout! I'm a good 9 hours behind you time zone wise so will be posting at odd hours. It's 8am and I am taking the kids to school so will weigh myself later. I like to use the advice in Eat to Live a book by a doctor who is a heart specialist. It is basically low carb and vegan - he recommends cutting out a bunch of foods for 6 weeks to really shift weight fast and when I actually stick to the rules I do lose weight.

Wow that's impressive helena spurs me on to stick with it! Well done. I too, will take off the 11th (work Xmas do, will be very good during the day and stick with vodka and slimline soda) then just Christmas Eve evening (from dinner time) Christmas Day and Boxing Day. But I can't afford to completely gorge on those days, I'll be more restrained then past years Xmas Grin

I think I'll look up that book francis it sounds good.

I've just had dinner, raw peppers again, quite chicken pieces and a lentil and tomato sauce. I'm feeling hungry so think I'll have a very early night tonight to keep me out of the cupboards!

Does gin have carbs?? Grin

Report
helenahandbag · 30/11/2015 16:43

I'm not restraining myself on Christmas day at all, in fact I'll probably triple my carb intake Grin

Roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, Bailey's, chocolate, trifle... mmm.

I'm getting married in April so I'll go balls to the wall on the 25th and 26th (at my parents' house) and then get back on the wagon for the next few months Sad

Gin of course not!!

I say now I'll restrain myself, we shall see on the big day Xmas Wink

A wedding is a fab incentive to shed some lbs, congrats!

Thank you! I'd feel a whole lot more excited about it if my dress was even close to zipping up Blush

I'm down another quarter of a pound this morning after a gruelling spin class last night which is good, but obviously I felt I deserved at least a stone off after my efforts Grin

Inching closer and closer to the 13 stone bracket... I've not been there in two years!

I'll join you too if you don't mind. Still bf my 6 month old so will have to be sensible about it - more water, less crap, that sort of thing - but I could definitely do with shifting a few pounds (mind you, I don't actually own any scales, so have no idea what I weigh - not sure if that's good or bad?!) Will just aim for clothes fitting better - have a wedding to go to on the 20th so would like to not feel completely rank for that. Don't think the 2 chocolates and apple tart I had today are going to help! Tomorrow is a new day!

SnowBodyforrrrm · 02/12/2015 10:24

Today is indeed a new day! I had the best of intentions yesterday but had a spur of the moment celebration after getting some good health news, which involved lots of wine and a take away failed at day 2. But will get back on it today.

Any loss is good, I'll brave the scales on Sunday I think!

Morning, Grinches! I'm down another quarter this morning, so 14st 1.5. I got a gorgeous dress for my hen do in a size 14 and it looks amazing, it's a really lovely shape but is about 14lbs from zipping fully, and maybe 20lbs from being comfortable. I'm so excited to wear it, I felt like a princess swishing around in it Grin

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 02/12/2015 11:54

Morning, good work *, I love your new dress! I have had a good few days eating wise but my scales have moved to 69kg which is 0.5kg up. I tried moving the scales around to different kitchen tiles but it didn't help Blush

But, I'm going to concentrate on the process and not the results. I've had a lot more veg than usual, substituted rice for cauliflower rice last night and I have not, for the first time in a lifetime, bought a chocolate advent calendar. Bah. Humbug.

Good work Helena, not sure what happened there.

Report
helenahandbag · 02/12/2015 11:57

I'm actually surprised that the scales are moving downwards every day because... and this is possibly TMI... I haven't been to the loo since Saturday morning. My "official" weigh in is Saturday again so hopefully the issue is resolved by then! Blush

Grin So you might be sat on an extra few pounds of weight loss? Wink Happy days!

Report
helenahandbag · 02/12/2015 12:38

Very possibly! Blush

Here's hoping a good dose of Fybogel brings the next stone barrier with it Grin

I'm alarmed by how little hunger I've been experiencing since I started low carbing. I still get the desire to eat bad foods sometimes but not out of actual hunger Confused

I'll join! Having the 16th (sisters bday meal) and Xmas day off. That will be it. Would like to lose 11lbs.

Can I join please?

I am going to do 5:2 but try and fast for three days rather than two (Mon, Tues and Thurs), no wine except at weekends and limit the crap in between days. I've bought the Lighter Life 5:2 stuff from Superdrug so I really have no excuse.

Recently separated from H and start a new job on 4 Jan so want to start 2016 a few pounds down. Am about 14.2 (I think - will weigh in the morning) and would like to get to 12ish.

Yes, gorgeous dress helena, love it. Well done on the loss so far. Kondos you made me laugh about the kitchen tiles! Congrats on the new job whattodoeh Smile Snow sometimes you just need a takeaway and it sounds as though you had reason to celebrate!

Pretty good day for me so far. Snacking is my downfall so just trying to stick to meals at mealtime (harder than it sounds!) and lots of water in between. Apart from a few bites of my daughter's chocolate biscuit at 3pm (I'm so tired from lack of sleep I drank 3 coffees back to back and felt a bit funny so had to eat something, and it was all I had to hand - honest guv!) I've done well. Has really made me realise how much I mindlessly pick at things during the day - while cooking, clearing up etc - terrible!

Wishing you all a healthy evening Smile

I'd like to lose some weight in December please! My twin boys are now 8 weeks old and I really have to stop making excuses for eating so flipping much Hmm the trouble is, I rarely get time to cook and eat a proper meal at the moment, end up snacking on biscuits or any of the other goodies which are around at this time of year.

I have about 2 stone to lose to get back to a 'normal' weight for me….. had a c section which went very wrong, then a further two ops, meaning my stomach's still very sore and my usual exercise DVD of choice (Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred!) is out at the moment. If anyone has any alternative and gentler suggestions they would be much appreciated, don't have the opportunity to go to the gym for now!
