I want to throw some money at my weight problem.....

I really need to lose weight, ideally around four stone but I'd settle for less just to feel better.

I've tried everything but am pathetic and have no will power.

I have a really promising career but it is being hampered by my weight. I'm therefore thinking of losing weight as being an investment and I'm prepared to chuck some money at it.

Has anyone got any ideas? Ideally I'd like to pay someone to follow me round, forcing me to stick to a vlcd and making me exercise seven days a week but it seems a bit unrealistic! What do rich celebs do? Money can solve most things and i'd sell almost anything I have to be slim!

Thanks in advance. Please note I don't really want general tips about eating less and moving more....I do know all of that and the rest of my life is very tightly controlled- this is the only thing I am at a loss with.

A dear friend was in your position at 50. She hired a personal trainer. This is a woman who never voluntarily exercised and was extremely resistant to changing her eating (and drinking) habits. He said he would get her running. She said, no chance. He advised her on diet and devised a graduated exercise programme.

Two years later, she had halved her body weight and regularly ran 5k. For fun.

I did this! I am 3 2 stone overweight. Everything is under control except my weight and so I started eating more and getting fatter and more miserable. Last month I hired a personal trainer. He does one hour sessions at £30 a go. I booked a session of ten which I have just completed. I've just booked up for ten more, and am forced to go to the gym 2-3 times each week whether I want to or not.

It's finally got me off my arse and actually loving liking exercise.

The sessions are hard work but very motivating and as I am paying so much and actually seeing and feeling a difference already it makes me want to eat better too. I send my trainer a photo of my meals and he encourages me at sessions. I love him

Do it. Totally wholeheartedly recommend.

I recently signed up to an online diet coach - it's like a personal trainer except dealing with food rather than exercise. They produced a personal weightloss eating plan for me, I log my weight with them weekly and I also email them regularly for specific advice etc. So far I've lost 11lbs (in 4 weeks) and am loving it! It cost me £75 but like you say, I see it as an investment in my health.

You could kick start with a week in the Mayr Clinic in Austria.

My personal trainer runs a 3x a week bootcamp. With 3 sessions a day. Attend as many as you like
£57 a month with a running club and cycling club included. She does the nutrition side too. We had regular whatsapp type groups and challenges etc

I lost 4 stone with her and got marathon fit!

Def recommend that kind of thing

Thanks for your suggestions, I guess a combination of personal trainer and regular online support make complete sense. There's every chance however that I would pay for it all then simply not turn up. I have history for that.

I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking surgery- I've been overweight for 25 years and I can't bear to think of another 25. I've tried everything you can think of.

I am really hoping for a miracle cure that costs the earth but requires no willpower.

Thanks again

Ooh I cross posted with the last four posters. Thank you. I'm off to google those suggestions.

There was a BBC documentary (or maybe it was ITV?) about health farms a few years back.

Maybe a stay somewhere with a real health/diet emphasis would give you a quick loss and motivate you to continue?

Or, equally something like a British Trust for Conservation Volunteers break - outdoors, physical work, much cheaper?

I am a little overweight and could really do with shifting it too but I could come up with a gazillion excuses as to why it's too difficult etc etc.

If I had money and time to chuck at it I would
A. Go on a week long retreat to kickstart it
B. Get one of these diet chef programmes that delivers your food reDy for you to heat and eat that is actually nice and appetising
C. Go to a personal trainer
D. Sort a weekly online shop of healthy food for snacks but no crap

Good luck!

Thank you maybedoctor, a quick win to kick start things is a really good motivator and I do respond well to that.

I'm working 50 hours a week at the moment as well as studying for a masters ( which is why I overeat) and I don't really take any time for me. I couldn't justify time away from work/the house.

Well the obvious answer for quick weight loss that requires not zero but much less willpower is surgery. Gastric band or ballon. I have several friends that have done very well with bands. You do at a minimum not have to cheat, eg liquidise foods that are very high calorie, but I do believe they can work.

What about hypnotherapy? That may help with the will-power issues. If I had the money I would have individual hypnosis and hire a personal trainer (but I don't, so I use downloads and my fitbit).

Can you book a trainer to come to you? I did that with Pilates as otherwise I knew I just wouldn't go but as she was coming to me I had no choice!

Book a personal trainer. My one takes online clients and has fantastic results and a good following. She regularly checks in with clients via email/skype but I definitely feel exercise/healthy eating is the way to go. If you'd like her details feel free to PM me.

Hire me!

I'll send you meal plans and bollock you if you eat a donut!

Seriously, get a personal trainer. Make yourself accountable.

Good luck!

Pre book and pre pay 20 hours with a personal trainer
tell them your goals
you'll succeed as otherwise you'll be be hacked at wasting money

Ooh 7 more ideas, thank you. You are dealing however with the person who paid annual gym membership last year and went three times, which cost around £250 per visit so a personal trainer probably wouldn't work unless, as someone mentioned, they come to me. That's an idea.

I've consulted a hypnotherapist but decided against it, perhaps I'll revisit that.

Thank you all, just posting this and reading your responses has made a difference.

I'm the same. Have four stone to lose and have decided to do the Alevere diet. I have no clue if it'll work but I've tried personal trainers, group weight loss sessions, boot camps, gyms and Diet Chef and nothing has helped me long term.

I haven't started yet but there's a whole thread further down the board about it.
