16 week Summer Weight-Loss starting June 14th! All welcome : )

I am in the middle of a big move to another continent, flying out June 8th. As a result of all the stress-inducing shenanigans I have put on 10lb in the last couple of months alone, plus all that luverly chub I've been storing for a rainy day!

Once we've moved I should finally be able to focus on a healthy lifestyle and eating well with plenty of exercise (supposedly!). I will "officially" start on June 14th. Would anyone like to join? Whichever methods you prefer to move toward healthiness welcome : ) 16 weeks takes us into late September so I really would like to see some significant results! I need to lose at least 20lb (1.5 stone) and then hopefully keep going. My short term goal once I start will be the first 5lb and to do some form of exercise daily.

Anyone?

I'm in! Have been ignoring the pounds piling on over here and today weighed myself and cried! I need to lose weight urgently. Have eaten relatively healthy today and been for 2 walks. I have a zumba class to go to this evening and am planning to do something strenuous , whether it be a walk or swim every day without fail.

I would like to lose a dress size by August, as a starting point, do you think that is do-able?

What are you planning for your exercise? I think short term goals are the way to keep motivated.

Hi superbfairywren thanks so much for joining me Smile. You sound like you are already moving in the right direction. I am still packing up the suitcases and house as we leave on Monday so that is my only exercise right now. When we arrive at our new destination the kids will not be in school until after the summer so I'm thinking I'll take them swimming and walking alot. I'll need to see when I get there.

I always find the most important factor is my state of mind when focused on being healthier - it's a change of lifestyle so first I need to be committed to making changes and sticking with them. That's why I am gearing up to begin in about 10 days. I actually meant to choose the 15th, a Monday rather than the 14th. So the 15th is my goal. I might try and drop a cheeky pound or two next week but the 15th is when I will weigh myself and get started.

I think a dress size by August us totally doable. Personally I find losing around 10lbs will take me down a dress size, don't know about you? 10lbs in 6-7 weeks is definitely a reasonable and healthy goal (1-2 lbs per week).

Good luck superb! We can do it Grin

You will probably lose Weight with your move as you will be so busy!

I always find I succeed with losing weight when I don't deprive myself of anything, instead I choose healthier options and limit treats. When I diet and tell myself I CAN'T have something I just want it more and end up binging. I want to get fitter and healthier and stay that way. I have a young dd and want to be fit enough to run around with her, so that's a great motivation for me. My problem has been lack of energy so I am trying to do more and eat and drink well so I have more energy and can't make excuses any more.

Let's hope so, although the last long haul flight I took I was craving carbs for a few days afterwards and munched through a number of large bags of crisps - delicious! Grin Although I usually live without crisps and don't miss them at all they are my go - to right now when I fancy gaining a couple of pounds in a couple of days Confused they seem to be my fave stress food at the mo!

Yeah I'm not a believer in weightloss by torture either. With me it's pure bloody minded dogged determination that gets me there but only when I can be bothered and I am gearing myself up to go for it baby!

Actually, you're right, when you're busy packing, you need to have food that's quick and easy, crisps and chocolate are so tempting! I'm trying not to snack much and just eat 3 relatively good meals a day. Didn't do so well yesterday as missed breakfast so was starving all day!

I think you will do well as you have a fresh start so it will be a nice blank slate to exercise more and stock your cupboards with healthy food.

Nice to have someone else joining us!

Superb personally when losing weight I really try and have a filling breakfast and decent lunch. Otherwise later in the say I can be ravenous and feeling sorry for myself. I like porridge with fruit and non - fat dairy milk or soy. I haven't had that breakfast for months though. DS just brought me a breakfast burrito that DH made and it was quite delicious and swimming in grease! At least it had loads of (fried) veggies in it.

Do any of you use MFP? I have found that so helpful in revealing empty calories and also foods that are highly nutritious and low in calories. Not having looked at calories before I was shocked to find out how many calories were in two rounds of toast (a frequent snack of mine).

I have used mfp in the past and found it helpful, I'm not so good at logging my meals now but I found from using it for a while I am much more aware of where the calories are. I'm trying to make sure most of my meal is veg with protein and much less carbs.

I'm in - I started three weeks ago and have lost 7lb but I have a weekend away on 12 which will involve much drinking and eating so I know I'll need to kick start on 15 Blush

Another stone would be great but if I could do another 1.5 stone that'd get me to the elusive pre DC honeymoon weight Grin

Ooh, I'm in! I started SW and lost 1 stone but still 2 to go. Really want to end the summer by fitting into my clothes that are lying unloved at the bottom of the wardrobe Grin

Hi Mixed and Norman this is a great turnout! I hear you Norm I was packing clothes this weekend thinking "Did I REALLY wear these shorts last year?!!" Lots of nice clothes that I can't get into right now.

Well wish me Bon Voyage, we are off to the airport at 11am flying from one non UK country to another! Only one week to go to the start of our journey to health and slenderness Wink

Good luck with the journey and the moving in!
I am making myself do 2 zumba classes a week and going for a long walk each day as well as trying to just be more active generally. Hoping to swim too but that depends on babysitters.

I've never tried slimming world, does it work for you Normanisanisland? I'm just trying to make healthier choices without denying myself anything in moderation. Still breastfeeding and not getting much sleep so I do struggle and crave sugar and carbs a lot during the day. Am limiting myself so I don't drink loads of fizzy and trying to make sure I have lots of healthy food in the house.

I have about 3 vacuum bags of clothes that fitted pre-dd and I'm loathe to buy anything new. I have to get back into them!

Bon Voyage HeylilBunny!

Superbfairywren, I am enjoying SW just now- a lot of it is common sense but helps giving me a plan to stick to - I was enjoying too much wine and chocolate at night but I've curbed that and when out with the kids I always chuck some fruit in my bag for me as well as the kids!

When I had no.3 I lost loads of weight as she was BF and permanently attached and I remember the exhaustion! The calorie burn is good though and your body is working hard so don't deny yourself too much!

I'm always tempted to just dig in to the biccies by lunchtime so I have stopped buying them in!

We will be getting all those clothes back out before the summer is over!!

I'm in. I was very overweight before but seem to have put on 10lb in the last month Sad. I have injured my back/neck and so have been resting and munching Confused

I have lost no weight whilst breastfeeding! I was quite sedentary for the first 2 months after c section as wasn't in great shape and now even though I'm far more active I still sit down a large part of the day. And the weight just isn't budging!! No babysitter for zumba tonight, so might attempt to do some in the living room on my own/ with the dog looking confused at me! Luckily there is a class tomorrow I can go too so shouldn't miss my 2 classes a week.

Just eaten a twix, I have no willpower!! Extra long dog walk for me this afternoon.

I'm in! Weight goes off v v slowly, but I would love to lose 16lb in 16 weeks- still attempting to lose weight after 2 babies and life being...difficult at times!

A twix sounds awfully tasty right now superbfairy! I have been upping the dog walks too! They are loving it!

Report
superbfairywren · 08/06/2015 22:13

Babysitter came through so I am now exhausted and really wishing I had saved the twix, could do with it now!
Feel much better having done some cardio, dog walk earlier probably wasn't very strenuous.
My dog is really lazy and he tries to take the shortest route home whichever way we go for our walk. No good for my fitness levels! I do love being out pushing the pushchair and chatting away to the baby and the dog though so I have been making him walk further than normal lately.

Wasn't too bad a day today, I was a hot sweaty mess and easily the largest person at zumba tonight but I figure I will never be confident about my body if I don't do exercise so I have to suffer through being the fatso at the back for a while to get where I want to be!!

I think I'm going to run out of babysitters though, How does everyone else fit exercise into their week?

Actually I think I've put on a little bit of weight in the past 6 months. I really envy all the people who say the weight fell off them whilst they breastfed.. why does it work differently for different people?!

I'm in, I would like to lose at least 1 stone, but 1 1/2 stone would be brilliant!

I put on 2 stone when I started uni and lost 1 stone of it last year, but that other 1 stone is refusing to budge (probably as a result of my junk food habit!) I have just got my first full time job which I start in a few weeks so hoping that will be a good distraction from the chocolate as well!

Report
Normanisanisland · 10/06/2015 15:55

That is rubbish superb fairy! With 1 & 2 I didn't see a huge difference but baby 3 was permanently attached and I was probably more active so that may made as much difference as the feeding.

Hi minion Dave! Congratulations on the job!

Well I weighed in last night and lost 3.5lbs , really happy with that and it's spurred me on to try for the same again next week - if I can lose 2 more lbs then I've lost 10% body weight which was my first goal at Slimming World :)
