Anyone up for new chat weight loss thread?

kaykayblue · 15/12/2014 15:19

I've been looking through other chat threads, which have all seemed really awesome, but most of them seem to have been started many months ago with people who have pretty much reached their target.

So whether you're looking to lose less than me or a whole lot more, it would be lovely to have some fellow last minute dieters for some moral support! Especially over Christmas!!!!!

I am getting married in just over 10 weeks, but have apparently completely ignored my desire to lose weight until now. The last minute. Urgh.

I'm looking to lose 3kg, or around 6lbs for those in imperial. Ideally it would be more like 4kg, but I don't think it's going to be possible in the time frame I have.

My main failing is a complete and utter lack of exercise. I have a lot of motivation in the summer, but in winter it's just so cold the motivation gets used to try and heat up my quivering frame. Apparently my body prefers to use motivation as a fuel rather than the fat on my arse Grin

That, and wine.

Anyone?

Hi Jessicat, hurrah!

Do you have a timetable for when you'd like to lose the weight by?

I was pretty smug with myself yesterday. No wine for the third day in a row, no chocolate, no snacking, and a lovely vegetarian chilli for dinner.

No exercise though, which I really need to work on :-S

I'd like to join, I need to lose 3 stone total but would like to lose at least one and a half by the end of January

Hi everyone, can I join please. I need to lose 2stone to start with, ideally 3, by April. Will be going back to work after maternity leave then. I don't do any excersise, no motivation at all.
I lost 2stone about 2years ago so I know I can do this, just need to keep it off!!

Hurrah! It looks like lots of people have similar weight loss targets, which is great news.

I'm glad that there are some fellow exercise dodgers as well!

Does anyone have a game plan?

I am hoping that small changes will all add up -

1 I stopped having sugar in my coffee three weeks ago, and switched to sweetner.
2 I'm definitely cutting down on wine
3 I'm only going to cook healthy stuff, so no more home made pizzas.
4 I'm planning to do at least 40 mins of exercise 4-5 times a week (this will be hard).

  1. No snacking

How about you guys?

I'm in with the same aim as you kaykay. A new job and house move has meant less time to excerise and half a stone has snuck on!

Kaykay ideally I'd like to be half way by the summer, but I'm going to set myself small goals to focus on.

I'm tracking calories on my fitness pal and doing a fitness dvd at home. I try to do it in the mornings rather than after work.

kaykayblue · 16/12/2014 13:52

Yeah I have to say that I always found mornings easier than evenings. Although it's easier to do mornings in the summer - winter was either evenings or nothing!!

I'm going to have another coffee to perk up a bit and then I WILL do a sports video. I also have a ton of laundry to do, and having to cart a massive bag of wet clothes to the dryer is bound to burn off a few extra calories!

I'm in too. I started two days ago. I'm eating paleo/lowish carb. I'm doing it to sort out my hormones and lose weight. Smile

I'm going to start slowly with the exercise , maybe 2 a week to start with then build it up in the new year. I think I need to plan my meals as well, what is everyone having to eat tonight?

I've got two, preferably three to lose. I have a one year old so my exercise is walking with her.
I quit sugar at the beginning of December and that seems to be working well. I also do 5:2 but I'm a bit more relaxed with the 500 calories limit.

Oh yay! It looks like there are a few of us actively trying to lose weight over the testing christmas period :-D

I just did a 55 minute workout video and my GOD. I don't remember it being so hard! I started off wearing thick socks, a t-shirt and a jumper, but finished in my bra and tiny shorts! First exercise in about....a month? (cringe)

redtractor - I need to do a rough calculation of my calorie intake so far today before I work out what's for dinner. I think I might make a vegetarian green thai curry (with m and s sauce that we got a while back), and have it with a small amount of brown rice.

Yesterday's chilli was amazing if you are looking for low calorie ideas. It's basically just red pepper and courgette thinly sliced and put in the pan for a few minutes with a small amount of olive oil, then add a drained tin of red kidney beans, half a drained tin of lentils, and a bit of garlic. Give it a few minutes until the beans dry out a little, then add 390g of tomato puree (the carton, not the paste in a tube!!).

Then you just turn the heat down to low and keep stirring it every now and then until the tomato puree is nice and thick.

It's gorgeous on it's own, or you could have it with wraps, a potato, bread, rice...whatever really. The only substantial calories come from whatever you eat the chilli with. I'd make it again if my fiance wasn't home tonight!

Redtractor meal planning is a gd idea. I normally just walk round the supermarket throwing stuff in thinking that will make something healthy and nutritious. Then end up with really mish mashed meals.

Tonight is a jacket with tuna
Maybe some sliced fruit with natural yogurt afterwards.

Tonight we are having a quick meal as we are going to go and do a Christmas food shop on the scan and shop thingy (so we don't have to fight the crowds next week ). So having chicken breasts, Jackets and green beans, broccoli, carotts, peas and sweetcorn with redcurrent jelly gravy. Yum. (Im not having the jacket but am having butter on my veg).

Last night's curry was delicious. Normally I would have had a second helping, but I resisted, and had an options hot chocolate instead. Another day with no wine too. I did have three 80% dark chocolate truffles over the day, but you can't win them all. I like to think they have less calories since they have virtually no sugar, and they are really expensive (a gift!)

How did everyone else manage?

I tried to weigh myself yesterday but the battery in the scales are dead Hmm.

Last time I weighed myself at the weekend I was 60.6kg, but I don't really have any idea how much I will be losing a week or what's feasible.

Does anyone have any specific targets for over the next few weeks?

I'd like to be down to at least 60kg by new year's eve, although 59.6kg would be amazing.

I am very much looking forward to being able to fit my fat arse into my jeans/any pair of trousers I own, again so my legs don't freeze!

How's everyone doing today? Did well last night, had a stir fry (low cal spray obviously!) and resisted wine and chocs!
Kaykay I'm going to weigh myself this afternoon, eeek!! I think 2-3lb a week is a realistic goal for me. Getting my fat arse into my jeans is my dream as well! My first goal is to lose a stone by 1st of Feb for my LOs christening, I've got a gorgeous dress to wear!

kaykayblue · 17/12/2014 13:05

Oh wow, that's a fantastic motivation to lose a stone by feb!

Good luck with your weight in later. I assume you're going to take that as your starting weight? Or did you already know what your weight was and are hoping to see some loss?

I saw on another thread that they went through a phase of setting daily challenges to help motivate each other. Would anyone be up for that?

We could start with an easy one - today's challenge is.....

NO WINE OR BOOZE for the day.

It's a wednesday so hopefully it shouldn't be tooo hard!

I'm in!! Definitely. I have 1.5st to lose.
No time to post more now (don't worry, I'm not having a long lunch!) but will later. Thanks for starting this thread! :-)

I weighed myself a couple of weeks ago but going to start afresh today and take it from there, although secretly hoping for some loss from last time!

A daily challenge is a fab idea! Will deffo stick to that today.

Loving this thread, having support from others in the same boat really helps!

Hi ladies
I love the idea of a daily challenge too, and I can deffo do today's as I don't drink at home Grin

I normally weigh in on a Monday morning. I was exactly 14st 0.0lb this week, but I think I'm going to wait till next Wednesday to weigh in so I've got a little extra time. So far I've lost 8lbs so anything extra this side of Xmas is a bonus!

Report
kaykayblue · 17/12/2014 17:00

Wow that's brilliant Jessi! Well done on your 8lbs already! God, I was having wine every single day for a good few weeks. My fiancé doesn't normally get home until 9pm, so it was kind of a way to stave off the hunger a bit longer, and make the evening more entertaining while waiting! Also, we haven't chosen the wine for the wedding yet, so I was telling myself it was good to do a taste test...

I might have a couple of glasses at a friends party on saturday, but I'm going to limit it to actual events and not just because it's there at home.

Good luck with the weigh in Tractor - let us know how it goes :-)

God, having picked the no booze one we've just been invited out by friends. I'm going to make every effort to stick to booze free stuff. It doesn't even appeal after last weeks epic hangover to end all hangovers....

Thanks kaykay!
It's nice to have a place to share our goals and achievements, and be able to motivate each other.
Maybe you could try tonic with a slice of lemon and try to think of it as g&t or v&t Smile
