Anyone up for a post-natal weight loss support thread?

DC3 is now 6 weeks and I am 15kg heavier than I want to be (about 10kg higher than pre-pregnancy, when I was already a bit over my 'ideal' weight). For my health, and to get into my old clothes, I want to lose at least 10kg, preferably 15kg.

My plan is to vaguely follow Slimming World principles and aim to average at least 70,000 steps a week (10,000 a day, in line with recommendations). I also want to do it healthily and whilst avoiding emotional angst (no beating myself up that I'm naughty if one day I eat chocolate fudge cake, just careful eating overall).

Anyone want to join me? I've been promised one buddy already on another thread.

Buddy signing in! DC3 is 4 weeks old and I haven't weighed myself yet but think I have about 2 stone to lose. I'm up for the 10,000 steps challenge as well (will see if I can borrow DH's fitbit) Before I got pregnant I had completed C25K and I'd like to get back to it but not sure I can fit it in at the moment. I'm going to loosely follow SW extra easy and see how I get on. If I'm not doing well I'll join a group in a few weeks. I have a big birthday at the end of November, definitely want to be 40 and fabulous rather than fat and frumpy! Will post weight and target on Monday.

I have a fitbit too and love it. It is one of the clip on ones though. If your DH has a posh wristband one, beware it doesn't properly count steps pushing a buggy!

My first target is 8 kg I have decided (18lbs I think). That is roughly 10% of my current weight and would get me fitting most clothes. I would like to do that by the end of September to be realistic. The beginning if it goes really well. Smile

Count me in! DC2 will be 6 weeks old on Tuesday. Due to horrendous SPD and being fairly immobile for 5 months, I now have around 3.5 stone to lose - sob.

I also have a fitbit to dig out. Will weight and post targets on Tuesday as away this weekend Smile

My baby is 4 weeks old and I have 15kg to lose. I have no idea where to start! There's a mums and babies fitness class, but apparently after a c-section I need to be 12 weeks post-partum to join. Baby is EBF- is there a risk of falling milk supply with calorie restriction?

Hi lazybones I'm EBF too, as is penguin (we cooked up the idea for this thread on another about Slimming World and breastfeeding). SW and WW both give you additional allowances for breastfeeding, I wouldn't do a severely calorie restricted diet or anything that aims for rapid weight loss or your supply could be affected, but you should be able to lose 1-2lb a week quite safely. BF uses up about 500 calories a day, so I'd allow yourself that above whatever you would normally restrict to if you choose to to a calorie restricted diet. It could be as simple as not eating 500 extra calories of cake!

It shouldn't be a problem but you are encouraged to diet sensibly- SW and WW both have modified plans for breastfeeding (essentially adding some extra calories and encouraging calcium rich foods). Things like 5:2 aren't generally advised AFAIK.

Thank you both! I certainly used pregnancy as an excuse to eat everything in sight and I didn't want to use BF as a reason to continue over-eating

Can I join please - DD is 15 weeks and I've said every week that I'm starting the diet on Monday, then quit by Wednesday Blush

I'm also EBF and trying to increase how much I'm drinking as I'm hoping the constant raging hunger is at least partially thirst so this may stop me eating so much!

I've got about 15lbs to lose to get to pre-DD weight, a further 15lbs to get to pre-DS weight (he's 3) and a further 7lbs until I'm at the weight I was when I got married... One target at a time!

I'd like to join too please! But I'm a bit further down the line - DD is 9 months (Blush) and I've managed to lose 3 of the 4 stone I put on during pregnancy, but I'm really struggling with the final stone. The months of tiredness have really impacted on my usually healthy attitude to eating... So I'd love to support you all & be supported... Do I count as post-natal?

Weighed and healthy breakfast eaten. Vague meal plans for next few days. How is everyone else?

It's so hard with a tiny baby. He's refluxy and hasn't let me put him down all day. I've stuck to the calorie limit, but meal plans seem impossible. I've just stuck to things I can eat one-handed. We've not left the house despite my good intentions to walk every day

Is he your first Lazy? Go easy on yourself. Especially if he is.

Also, assuming you are UK, there is masses of time to get out. Try to, for mental wellbeing more than exercise. Smile

He is my first. I don't live in the UK and the day here is almost over now. I'll aim for a walk tomorrow!

11 stone 3lb Blush worse than I thought! My target weight is 9 stone. 31lb to lose and I'd like to do in it time for my 40th in 5 months. Do you think 6lb a month is achievable?

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 23/06/2014 17:05

Ambitious, but I don't see why not.

I work in kg as I find it less emotional. I am tall, so even my normal weight sounds 'high' in a society filled with stories about women of 8 stone something! I've just done a conversion though, and my goal is 33lbs, so almost the same. I was hoping to be nearly there by Christmas. Smile

I'd settle for 'nearly there' and back into my clothes. No wonder nothing fits! Blush
To be back to a healthy BMI of 25 I need to be 10 stone/lose 17lb so that's my first target. Will aim to get there in 10 weeks from now....
I found an interesting site called BMI visualiser that lets you look at your body shape at your current weight and at various weights/BMIs. Might be worth a look if anyone needs motivation.

I'm tall too Penguin, well tall-ish, 5'8" and currently 13stone / 82kg... at 10.5 stone about a million years ago I looked really skinny so I'd be happy to get back to 11.5/12 stone. Still sounds heavy though!

I've just "visualized" myself at current BMI and it's pretty accurate, oh dear! Good motivation though, thanks Baking Grin

I'm full or admiration for you guys with very new babies... Agree the BF makes you super hungry and it's much easier to eat one-handed things which are usually bad. Unfortunately come the weaning stage I'm now finding it hard not to polish off DD's leftovers...

6lbs a month seems totally doable but you have to take into account the fact it gets harder the lower you get.

With my first I went from 10.9 to 15.9. I lost it all and was 10.4 when I got pregnant with my second a year later. That time I gained 4st and found it much harder to lose. I think because I had two small children and a terrible post section infection. Oh and I am self employed which means I return to work within days of having my babies.

This time I was about 14st when I had my section a month ago. 12.1 today. So 1st 7 loss will take me to a good weight for me.

Working does make it hard to exercise. I'm either feeding or at my desk at the moment which is frustrating.

Aiming at 11st 7 by 21 July and 11st by mid august.

Shall we set a weekly weigh in day?

I'm doing Monday morning if that's alright. I did my first weigh yesterday. Also, if I weigh in the evening I will find it too easy to blame gains on the amount of water I have drunk that day!
