Need to lose 1 stone of pregnancy weight

Swishyswashy · 20/04/2014 22:32

Help! Breastfeeding small baby, not my first, and never seem to be able to shed any weight until I stop. Have lots of weddings this summer, starting with one in 5 weeks and would love to get rid of at least a stone by end of summer, and to lose 6/7 lbs for the one in 5 weeks. Main issues are eating way too much chocolate when I'm tired with baby/ other kids, scoffing children's tea and general hunger when breastfeeding.
Need motivation. And a plan! I know it's not a very serious problem, but I'm the fattest I've ever been and feel rubbish!

Swishy, I could have written your post. Want to loose about a stone, most of it by the end of July. Breastfeeding 3 months old DC2 and with DC1 I held on to my weight til she started weaning. My biggest problem is also eating sugary addictive crap for quick energy and to reward myself for getting through another day with a baby and toddler. My plan is to ditch sugar and junk food. I can't eat chocolate or cake etc in sensible portions. Once I start I can't stop so for now, I need to stop the habit altogether. I've also started running with the C25K podcasts last week. I need someone to keep me on track. Any ideas how you'd like to tackle your weight?

Me too! Dd now 9 months and I'm about a stone heavier than pre pregnancy. Weight just fell off before. Despite bf still the scales are not moving. I drink too much caffeine and eat far too many cakes and biscuits just to get me through the day.

Look and feel like crap. Just want to look nice but without having to change anything, as I'm barely making it through the day as it is. I too have a wedding to attend this summer and I want to feel good about myself. Not sure how to haul myself out of the doldrums.

Maybe we can have a 'need to lose a stone of baby weight' support group!

Can I join too? Ds only 8 weeks so I've not even started exercise yet but I'm sure it just dropped off with dd.

Let's support each other through this Smile

If you are breast feeding you need more calories than a normal woman.
BUT
The ideal thing to start with is to stop all snacking.
No crisps, no biscuits, anything in between meals.

Light breakfast then nothing solid till lunch then only water, milk, tea, coffee till supper.
Have a good supper (possibly involving a treat as pudding) and then close the kitchen till the morning.

If you can, cut out carbonated drinks - even sugar free ones - except for at times when you would drink alcohol.

But basically get back into meals with gaps
that pattern will set you up on the right path whichever approach you take to actual calorie restriction later.

Good luck.

Pleased some others are in the same boat! MrsHuxtable, I'm exactly the same with chocolate and cake, I find it relatively easy to eat healthily but then feel so knackered I don't care and gobble down loads of chocolate. Trying to have two squares of dark chocolate instead of loads of milk chocolate as a start. Not sure I can cope with cold turkey. Other plan is a bit odd, but as of today I'm taking pictures of everything that I am eating with my phone (I do look kind of crazy) so that I can try and be realistic about the amount that is actually going in. Have always been fit and healthy, but this time the weight is just not shifting at all.
Starting making a real effort today and will weigh myself next Monday and hope to see a couple of pounds gone. Good luck everyone- let me know how you all get on in the next couple of days!

Hi all, I have 6 month old who was exclusively bf but now moving rapidly on to solids and I know its time to sort myself out. I've spent 6 years being pregnant or bf so have constantly had excuses but dc3 is the last and with a big bday next year I want to get myself sorted out at long last! I too have a wedding in5 weeks though so have set that as my first goal. I did really well for a few weeks before the Easter holidays hit and having all the children around made me turn to chocolate fixes and little time for exercise! I'm going to be doing 30 day shred and ww as of tomorrow.....

good tips TalkingPeace

Are we all going to the same wedding? Smile

Chocolate is my downfall this weekend has been awful! I made the mistake of looking at the calories in my easter egg, well the mistake was actually eating it all Shock

Also my portion sizes are all off. Cooked shepherds pie last night. As I used a whole mince thought I'd freeze half, looked in pan after and thought that's never enough. Well it was more than enough with leftovers for dd lunch today.

Plan - sort portion sizes and get dark choc in for x2 squares as evening fix!

Good luck everyone. Smile

I find I actually have to section up dark chocolate into portions otherwise I'll eat the whole lot. How sad is that! My dh kindly tried to finish every Easter egg in the house for me yesterdayGrin I've not yet eaten anything so am off for a healthy bowl of porridge. I was never super slim but in healthy range pre children, I found some nice honeymoon pics to put on the fridge as inspiration.

Try using an app like MyFitnessPal to log everything you eat for a few days (whilst avoiding the snacking), and check out portion sizes, you'd be surprised how small a portion can be (1 square dark chocolate = 50 calories for instance).

How has everyone been getting on? Managed to avoid chocolate binges so far this week, but not sure it's making any difference!

Have not been getting on that well, but then I've not been trying that hard. It's just so difficult.

I did do the school run on foot today, so that was 1.5 miles of walking / pushing that I don't normally do. I do feel much better for getting out in the fresh air. Was less stressful than the drive with the squabbling children. Am going to try Pilates again next week. I haven't been lately due to illness but really want to get back into it.

Food wise I don't have the strength to give up the carbs. I feel light headed if I go too long without food. I suppose I need to find healthier snacks and not just reach for the biscuits!

Just found out that one of our friends going to the wedding has had lipo and a tummy tuck. Looks fantastic. Feel very Envy and hope I don't have to stand next to her!

Hate myself Sad.

Smile, I also did the school run on foot today- ditto, less stressful than the squabbling children/ screaming baby in the car, but we have to take the tube part of the way too so that bit can be a bit stressful with all 3. Still, it's good to get the exercise. Completely agree about the carbs- feel light headed and sick without them and honestly can't give them up when breastfeeding/ dealing with small ones (or any other time actually!). And it is so hard in general to not eat loads when you are tired isn't it?

Yes! I think that's it. Six years of sleep deprivation is taking its toll and I'm just so bloody tired all the time that I do eat just to keep myself going. And I think it's cakes / biscuits as they're easy to eat one handed when balancing the baby. Though she's 9mo she still feeds a lot and I'm permanently hungry Confused.

Don't envy the school run on the tube, that would surely drive me to chocolate!

hello. am joining although being vv easy on myself as only 4 weeks PN I have a big chocolate biscuit and cake problem
I had HG during pg so the joy of eating is overriding common sense
I am gorging on goddamn easter eggs - once I start I cannot stop -

but I have given up coca cola completely, am limiting crisps severely, trying to avoid them altogether, my portion sizes are insane, this always happens to me with breast feeding, am completely ravenous all the time. the next thing Im cutting out is jam. - 4 pieces of toast butter & jam for breakfast is too much!

Hello everyone. I weighed myself yesterday and managed to lose 2kg in the last two weeks so obviously what I decided to do is working and I don't need to be too strict with myself. I don't stick to 3 meals but eat whenever I'm hungry. I couldn't not snack. I need something in the afternoon to keep me going but I'm sticking to healthy foods. I wonder if anyone else on here is interested in posting food diaries, just to keep us on track but also for inspiration maybe what other people are eating? I had chocolate on Sunday obviously but that was it and I don't see it as a slip up or anything because of Easter. Frozen creme eggs. Amazing! I'm onto week 2 of C25K now and it's going well. Mostly it's an absolute bugger though to motivate myself to go out and get started. It doesn't help that DH is working a lot and late at the moment so it's really difficult to find time for the running. I have no idea how many calories I should be eating and how many I am eating but I don't want to have to calorie count. I'm really just hoping that super healthy eating plus exercise will work and I will look great come August. What approach has everyone else settled on then?

Chaffinch, I also had HG. Twice in the last 3 years for a total of 12 months between the two pregnancies. It is the pits and takes so much out of you physically. I can still feel the effects now with my running. I literally have to start at zero and my fitness level is at rock bottom when before HG I could run an hour easily.

re snacking : it is said that when you feel 'hungry' often it is because you are thirsty

so at a usual snack time try having a big glass water/ big mug tea/coffee then after that see if you are still hungry,
can help to have a big glass of water before a meal to eat slightly less too

it's awareness too, twice this morning I had a huge urge for chocolate but more because I was bored than hungry
MrsHuxtable I can do a food diary albeit around a 4 week old 5 & 7 y/olds on easter break

today - crumpet & butter & 2 pieces toast, mug tea
snacks - odd chunks chocolate
lunch - mug tea, tuna deli mix stuff on 2 pieces granary toast
2 pieces toast butter & jam, 2 choc cornflake cakes
snacks - more odd bits chocolate
glass water
dinner - pork chop, new potatoes, green beans/broccoli

already I can see I need more water
slept a bit this pm
walked about 30 mins in morning

I have eaten today:
Porridge with raisins and honey
2x flat white coffee (it was a bad night!)
Toast with salmon and lemon juice
Banana
4 squares dark chocolate
Dried fruit and nuts- a handful
Yogurt and fruit
A bit of Easter bunny, but small
Chicken tagine with lots of veg and a bit of rice
1 glass white wine (essential)
I'm quite happy with that- it is better than several bags of mini eggs a day as per last week.
But I don't feel like it's making a difference- I hope it is. Must not fall down over weekend. Good luck ladies!

Ok. Today I will keep a food diary. Though it sounds scary. My diet is shocking. Will post an update tonight.

Was at home yesterday and tried to drink a big glass of water every time I was getting snacky. Though I did end up having the snack too Blush

Good luck all! Grin
