I've got 7st to lose but I keep losing a bit then binging :(

What could my gp do? What medications are available? I don't want fat binding tablets because I know I'll still eat and be on the loo all day! Is there anything that stops you feeling hungry?

Feeling at the end of my tether with it now I feel misreable over it every day but just can't stick to anything :(

How are you losing the weight?

Why do you think you binge? Have you read about "self-sabotage"?

I went to my gp and he referred me to an NHS weight loss service. It's brilliant. One to one mentoring sessions, group work if you want, free gym membership for six weeks,a drop in service and various physical activity sessions. The latest is a short course learning golf in collaboration with the local golf club.

The emphasis is on is on sustainable eating and gradual weight loss. You can attend for twelve months.

I used to do weight watchers and lost a couple of stone twice with them but I'm currently the biggest I've ever been, I'm an emotional eater and a binger and I'm starting to realise that 'dieting' isn't the best thing for me I need a lifestyle change

Whatfun that sounds great I do try on my own but I like the idea of having someone to answer to

I think I have binge eating disorder and I did mention this to gp and they referred me for cbt who were referring me to an eating disorders clinic but then they stopped working with them so I couldn't go!

I've cried at my gp a couple of times about my weight and binge eating issues. I was given a telephone appointment with a counsellor that I had to wait 3 months for. And that's it. Oh and I was told they would post me 3 months membership to slimming world. They didnt because they'd run out of vouchers.

It's a frigging joke to be honest.

I think if you have a tendency to binge then pills which surpress your appetite won't help as you are not eating purely because you are hungry.

I guess you need to look into why you are binging and address that?

Maybe you could ask your GP for help other than pills though.

I also think this is a mental problem causing physical effects. There's no magic pill I'm afraid, you need to 'fix' (ha - if only it was that easy!) whatever it is that makes you eat abnormally.

diets are a waste of time. It is a lifestyle change - but something is making you binge and that's what needs fixing.

ask for a mental health referral - and good luck.

There's a new topic that has just been introduced in Body and Soul section - Eating Disorders...still a little quiet but there are a few people there tackling BED among other issues, may be worth a look there. Specialsubject is right, in these cases it really isn't what's going on with your diet you need to be looking at, its more to do with your head...or heart Smile....
