Juicing for weight loss?

Movingforward123 · 22/07/2013 12:09

I am considering juicing for weightloss, has anyone tried it?

Did it work well? Did you pile on the pounds after?

I'm thinking about having juices and one main meal per day.

Or just replacing snacks like chocolate and cakes with juice, but I have heard there are a lot of calories in the juice so I'm unsure what to do. Any tips? Grin

There is a good website called Reboot with Joe - you might get some hints there? If you get a chance to watch the Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead film (site links to it) then I'm sure you will feel inspired - it was on C5 recently, and just amazing. DH is looking into juicing for weight loss atm - we have the juicer, so practically there Grin - so will watch this thread with interest Smile

Probably better to eat the fruit and veg and drink water with it, I'd have thought. Juices are nice but less filling and obv less good old fibre than eating the whole thing.

Sorry, pressed post too soon - for instance, I'm doing 5:2 at the moment. I can manage with just an apple up till lunch time - the juice from one apple wouldn't be enough.

What's the thinking behind juice rather than whole fruit/veg?

Hi, I watched the Fat, Sick and nearly dead programme recently and after that it did prompt met to start juicing. I have been doing for 7 days now. In the morning I vary my juice with smoothies using semi skimmed milk, low fat yoghurt and then fruit.

I then have one evening meal.

I must admit I do feel better and I have not had to take any hayfever medication at all since I started.

I've started having juice for breakfast. Actually just fruit and veg until lunchtime. However to avoid blood sugar issues I'm only having veg juices and eating the fruit. Works for me, though I can see it being
quite expensive.

Perry - have you lost any weight yet? And if so how much?

And do you feel fairly full with the juices?

Bum - is the juice really bad for sugar levels? I think I have heard that somewhere. Have you lost any weight doing it?

I'm sure I read that too much fruit can be bad for sugar levels, but if you include lots of veg it helps

I have done this in the past and swear by it - lost 7 pounds in 3 days and felt amazing. The trick is not to go straight back to heavy foods after if you want to keep it off - and drink loads of water.

Juices should be mostly veg with a bit of fruit to sweeten it. Good recipes in The Juice Master by Jason Vale and Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko

@Movingforward123

I did it for about 7 days but combined what I had. SOme days low fat yoghurt, semi-skimmed milk and fruit (banana, pineapple, mango) and other days veg. I found them very filling, can't say I noticed a weight loss but I felt better and since doing it I was not taking any hayfever medication.

However, I think you should not do continuously as a friend of mine began feeling light headed and was getting headaches. I think is great for detox and some weight loss but again I would also suggest that you need to exercise too

I wouldnt do it longterm, but i am considering doing it for 3-7days then after that I would have 1-2 meals per day and juices at other times.

I did this for a week, I lost 9 pounds. And quite a few inches from my stomach. It kick started a diet, I gained the diet weight back but not the juicing weight.

This was about two years ago. Going to do it again next week for four days, if I works well I will do it every month til I am at a better weight

Should probably point out that I ate nothing over the week. I have never been so desperate to chew something!

Do you mind if I ask what your starting weight was?

After that week did you find your appetite was a lot smaller?

Hi, my start weight was 13 stone 4 pounds, I went down to 12 stone 9 pounds then lost about another half stone in the following few months as my appetite was a bit reduced. After that Christmas I had gained about 5 pounds so went to slimming world and lost a stone to get to 11 stone 6 pounds.

Since last September I have allowed the weight to creep back on! I think I am back at 12 stone 4 pounds and staying pretty level, that's why I want to kick start my diet back off with the juicing.

I followed Jason vale and would really recommend his 7lb in 7 days book, very motivational! I tried most of his recipes but didn't follow the diet fully as some of them were mank!!!!
