Ideal weight for 5'9"?

TheYoniExpress · 20/06/2013 10:35

Currently in week two of SW to shift pre and post baby weight. I am 13st5 and I have set myself an interim target of 12st to get things going.

It has been so long since I was at a weight I was happy with that I can't remember what it was.

I am 5'9" - what would you all suggest?

I have looked at the bmi chart and am thinking about 10st7 / 11?

Well am almost 5'9" and I am now 12 stone and am still er fat! but this is on my build as I sense sadly I am quite small framed and based on my body fat levels, I think I need to get to about10.5 stone to be a reasonable size - currently all fat on ass and hips.. rest of me OK - size 10 top and 14 bottom ... so I would be going with your range unless you are blessed with a bigger frame!

am nearer 5 10 than 5 9, weigh just under 10 stone and reckon 9.5 is about right for me. no boobs tho! (well, not literally, just small)

I'm 5'10 and find that the scales and bmi charts mean nothing. You'd be better off measuring yourself (hips, bum, waist etc) or trying to get to a particular dress size in a particular shop

I don't think I've been under 11.5 stones since childhood but felt lovely and slim on my wedding day/honeymoon! I don't think it's easy to scale up weights/bmi.

Maybe I actually am big boned ...

I am 5'8 and my ideal weight is about 10stone - anything less than 9 1/2 and I look terrible - all bony. But I am broad. What is your frame like?

I am 5'8" and pre-pregnancy was 11st, and I'd say I was pretty average for my height at that weight. (Size 12-14)

I had DD-cup boobs, so that contributed, but my parents always said I was "heavy-boned" as a child (I think that was code for "people used to pick you up and then drop you again in horror").

For my frame, I don't think it would have been healthy to have been anything less than 10st5-ish or anything more than 11st8-ish.

I may have to hide this thread. Or spend the evening crying.

I am 12.5 stone and would have said my ideal weight was about 11 to 11.5. If I'm expected to get down to 9.5 stone then frankly I may as well mainline Haagen daas instead because it ain't gonna happen.

Me too Chubbfuddler!

If I were 9.5 stone I would look skeletal.

My mum is the same height and similar frame to me, she is currently ten stone and to me she looks too thin. I think she needs to gain ten pounds.

According to the BMI charts, you would have a desirable BMI if you weighed between 9 stone 6 or 12 stone 1.

What you should actually weigh depends entirely on your frame/physique and how toned/muscly you are.

I'm just over 5'9. I'm currently just under 11 stone and look pretty average. I'm trying to lose a stone. I used to weigh around 9 stone but was far too thin. So for me, average build, I'd say around the 10 stone mark is good for me.

I'm 5ft9 an am currently about 11 1/2 which is too big for me, my stomach jiggles and trousers are tight across me arse. Just about bang on 11 is right for me. Can't see me getting there anytime soon.

It depends on your build and exercise levels.

I am 5ft 9" - and am just under 12 stone. I wear a 14 - but don't look overly big. I am quite muscular - my wrists and ankles are quite large.

At 10 stone I look too thin. My lowest ever was 9st 4lb and I looked like death. Way too thin for my build.

I always want to lose a bit - but my weight seems to settle around 12 stone.

It all depends on your frame, so don't beat yourself up.Are you fit? Have you got energy? That's more important, by miles. Throw away the scales and concentrate on being fit and healthy.

I'm a recent C25K convert, i did it for fitness, not weight loss as I am normally 9st 4 ish, and my weight went up to 9st 7! But I feel good for the first time in ages, and I have funny bulges on my legs called muscles... I don't look skeletal, just a normal size 10.

I eating more healthily as I can see that I feel rubbish running when I've been eating rubbish.

I really really wish I'd got fit years ago, I honestly thought being tired all the time was part and parcel of having dcs/being busy.

It all depends on build.

I am 6 feet and 10 stone 2 currently - my ideal weight is around 10 stone.

I have a small build, pretty flat chested etc.

Really helpful everyone thanks.

I am not wide framed like a swimmer, but I have a decent set of hips on me - always have done. They helped 9lb8oz DD2 slip out in 15 minutes a few month ago Grin

I can't see myself under size 14 due to my hips, which I would be really comfortable with Smile

I think ten stone would be too light for me - last time I was this weight was at 19 when I was seriously ill in hospital and I was so bony!

At the moment I just want to be under 11st 10 as I recently found an old slimming world log book from EIGHT years ago and that was my weight then Shock

I am 5'9" and at the moment am just under 10 1/2 stone. It's about right for me. I have dipped under 10 stone in the past and looked bony and not that well.

I'm usually a 12 on bottom half but anything goes on the top half as I have a stupidly large bosom.

The biggest I've been (apart from pregnancy) is 11 1/2 stone, I was a size 16 and did feel a bit wobbly, but not fat.

What makes the difference for me is activity levels, as my basic diet is pretty good and I usually deal with tempting snack foods by not having them in the house. I currently cycle a couple of times a week for work, walk a lot and try and fit it the odd swim. Much better than pre-kids when I sat on my bum in an office for 40 hrs a week.

5'9" and bounce around 9.5stone and a few lbs over. For years I was 10.5-11 and at the time felt ok if a little chubby, though thus was pre children when i had big beautiful boob! Now I've done baby making (body a whole new shape) and actually started exercising and doing intermittent fasting this seems to be my new weight, and as it turns out I have a small frame Shockso actually don't look skinny at all! I'm a size 8-10 depending on the shop

I agree though it isn't so much about weight, I've dropped a dress size in the last two months while training for a 545mile bike ride but have only lost 2lbs. Now I'm at the point where I have love handles I want to lose but don't want to lose any more weight as my upper half will start looking scrawny, so annoyingly I just have to exercise it off

It depends what size you want to be I suppose. I'm a 14 and would rather be a 12 so I'd like to lose about a stone. I can't imagine being an 8-10 at this height, that sounds a more normal dress size for someone a fair but shorter than me.
