Hey, just lost 3 1/2 stone! Was 4 but been in hol and you know the rest!

Low carbing worked for me. Started in nov, bit of a blip over Xmas. Need to lose in total 5 stone. So almost there. I also exercise. More for the fitness and feeling of well being than weightloss.

So no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, milk, fruit, higher carb veg etc

I've done it twice (always put tons of weight on when pregnant) - once with weight watchers and the second time low carbing.

Both worked, but I found low carbing much easier as I wasn't hungry all the time, didn't feel deprived, and the food is much nicer.

There is a great ongoing low carb thread here in te big/slim club section - OP is BIWI.

I am back on low carb today.

I did paleo for a while but found I was hungry on it ( think it was from eating fruit)

Biwi threads are great but get long and I find them hard to catch up on

Starvation. Less than 500 cals a day. Did it in two-three months. I don't recommend it.

hi thanks for the replies. I'm not keen on the idea of low carbing but am thinking I need to do some exercise to see any results!

Exercise will help but isn't going to shift much weight alone

Low carbing is that, 'low' not no carbs. Basically, it's sugar. Read up on sugar and its effects on human body. You don't need sugar!! Yet it's in so many foods

hi sorry I just realised you said low carbing! it the no carbing I don't think is a good idea. I know the effects of sugar (I embarrassingly have a health related degree) so know what to do just lack motivation

I'm one stone down from post baby weight and have two to go. I've tried both 5:2 and low carb so far, both worked but I really struggled with low energy and breastfeeding. That said, two weeks on low carb seemed to knock my sugar addiction and now chocolate tastes too sweet and I'm enjoying healthy food with lots of veg and salad. It was great for getting me to cook new foods and plan menus and out of bad habits. I am still losing although not low-carbing now. I am also running 3 times a week with the couch to 5k app which I LOVE. It's become more important to me to be able to keep running than to shed the weight fast, which is another reason I decided to reintroduce more carb.

That said I will probably go back to low carb for the last stone when I am done breastfeeding.

I lost 4 stone to start my IVF. I ate healthily but still had treats. Quit drinking. Walked every where, I don't drive so have no choice. Went to the gym for at least an hour every day.

I was an overweight child and teenager but I lost 3 stone years ago through the typical NHS type diet, where you count portions of carbs, protein etc, and also by doing a bit more exercise. Managed to maintain that for a long time, with the exception of pregnancy and the first few months post birth.

About 18 months-2 years ago I lost a lot more mainly through eating fewer carbs and upping exercise again but it has gone back on due to underactive thyroid, stress and very little activity. I hope once my hormone levels are ok I will be able to lose it again.

I have lost 4.5 stone so far (still want to lose another half stone to make it 5). It has taken me around about a year to get this far.

I used MyFitnessPal to count calories. I set my calorie intake to a defecit of 500, in order to lose roughly 1lb a week.

I made sure that I ate 3 proper meals a day, with a small snack in between, so that I didn't get too hungry and then eat silly stuff. I eat lots of fruit and veg, plus plenty of lean protein.

In terms of exercise I power walk, cycle and swim, plus do yoga. I tried running but it set my asthma off so I stuck to lower impact exercise.

Basically it is a matter of eating less and moving more, but sticking at it long term. Crash diets make you lose weight quickly, but it isn't sustainable. You need to make a lifestyle change rather than go on a quick fix diet.

Lost 4 stone.
Took 1 year beginning to end I'd say.
Kept it off for 4 years thus far.
Did Weight Watchers and some weeks only a pound came off. I didn't care as it was all going in the right direction & I found WW very easy to follow.
I also discovered a love of exercise - swimming, running, weights which I still do at least 4 times a week, maybe more.

In all honesty, I do eat a fairly restricted diet 90% of the time (still mentally count points, avoid high fat foods & go for low carb with no bread, pasta etc. and certainly no junk food) but means I don't stress about the times I can't / don't want to be strict (dinner parties / eating out etc).

I love feeling strong. And I love being able to try on anything in a shop! Vain I know but going from size 18 to size 10 is bloody wonderful (for me).

I lost 4 1/2 stones, over a year or so, and have maintained for a year. I did it through portion control and just healthy eating (for the most part). I also do a fair amount of exercise , swimming mainly. Not specifically to burn calories but to avoid looking crap and to improve my health generally.

I lost 5st from July last year to April this year, maintained since then.
I did MFP, net 1200 cals per day (though I do a fair bit of exercise so wasn't too restricted).
Small changes to habits, listening to my body and stopping when full rather than when the plate was empty, it all makes the difference in the long run. I was a snug 18, now I'm a 6-8, and I have so much more energy than before.

Forgot to add: I eat and enjoy all food groups but do tend to naturally gravitate towards more healthy foods nowadays (no snacking has reduced the junk in my diet considerably).

45lbs lost and am happily maintaining now. It took me 9 months and I did it using myfitnesspal and exercising more. For me, the discipline of logging every single mouthful worked as I couldnt cheat really. Good luck - it's so lovely not to have to flick to the back of the sizes in the shops.

Four stone in five months last year. I'd inherited an exercise bike, so cycled at least 10k every day on that. Severely limited my junk food intake, and my alcohol intake. Replaced pasta or potatoes in the evening meal with extra vegetables. Reduced portion sizes. Stopped eating so many sandwiches. Got a blender and started making my own smoothies for lunch. Tried a bit of calorie counting just so I had a rough idea of how much I was eating, but wasn't religious about recording it all.

Then I got pregnant, and had a third trimester cakefest. Whoops...

3.5 stone in just over a year, although the bulk of it was in first six months. Slimming world. Have kept it off.

Now eat "normally" but a new actual normal instead of the pigging out that I considered normal before.
