Help - need to lose 8lb in 2 weeks!

FattyMcFatty · 13/05/2013 08:30

I have an event in 2 weeks which I have already bought a dress for. The dress fit snugly when I bought it and I weighed 11st 6lbs. I now weight 12st and I don't know if I'll be able to get it on :(

Please help me lose 8lb!

It can't be done. That kind of weighloss rate is only possible if you are massively overweight to start with and at 12st I doubt you are. You could probably lose 3-4lbs if you really went for it.

Cabbage diet

I think the reason you're not getting many replies is because what you're asking isn't realistic. If you go on a mad crash diet you'll just put it all back on straight afterwards, and you probably won't lose that much anyway.

Take the dress back and get it in a bigger size? Better than starving yourself.

Can't change the dress unfortunately.
Will just have to see what I can manage :-D

Try low carbing....check out the Bootcamp thread, you probably won't lose 8 lb but you do get an early big loss (5lb or so) which then settles into a normal 2lb a week or so decrease ...it'll all go back on if you eat loads of carbs at the event though!

just popping in to say that unbelievably, i appear to have lost 10lbs in the past fortnight doing BIWI's bootcamp right here on mumsnet!

i've never managed to lost more than a few pounds before by starving/restricting - and never managed to stick to anything this long before. but the best thing is, it doesn't even feel like a diet!

and even if it IS just water weight and i'm going to end up a shrivelled old prune, my stomach is so much flatter now and i'm really noticing a difference in my clothes. at my heaviest i was 11.12, started exercising regularly and got down to 11.7 before joining bootcamp here a fortnight ago, scales showed 10.11 this morning, the first time in YEARS i've been in the 10's.

do go have a gander, everyone is really supportive and there are many long-term losers whose experiences are so encouraging; loads of links to supporting evidence for this way of eating; there's a recipe thread to go with, and a questions thread too.

i'm sure if you don't get into this particular dress for this event you can find something else to wear that you'll feel fab in, but keep the dress as an incentive to lose the weight?

wishing you the best of luck! i know all too well what it's like to have a wardrobe full of clothes that 'almost' fit...Smile

Dukan diet will do it for you, no probs! I did it and lost 8lbs in the first two weeks and I weighed less than you (not trying to be rude there, just to give you an idea of the fact that I didn't have masses to lose!)

try the diets but have a back up plan of some really good foundation underwear that way you will definitely be able to get into the dress.

Low/no carb strictly for two weeks. Drink lots and lots of water.

You won't lose fat, but will lose any bloat. hopefully enough to look okay in the dress.

I think it could be done by no carbs. So only low fat protein, fish, chicken cottage cheese. Salad and usual lowish carb vegetables. Cauliflower broccoli and so on. Not potatoes of course. Also a little bit of fruit. Not avocado. And plenty of water. Good luck.

Am going to disagree with Vivienne mary. Avoid fruit - sugars in it can cause bloating.

I did a 21 day (hardcore) low carb plan recently. It did the job.

Meat. Green, cruciferous vegetables, no fruit, no starchy veg (i.e. carrots, potatoes, no tomatoes, peas).
No dairy. No tea/coffee. No eggs.

Just meat and veg.
And lots and lots of water.
My stomach was totally flat. :)

Psyllium husk to counteract the lack of fibre.

Thanks - I will try low carb! Sadly it has to be this dress, and magic underwear won't help.

Will go meat and veg shopping tonight! :)

Well, I purposely didn't say low-carb because I've been given a hard time for recommending it recently Grin... But it probably is your best bet. It will flatten your tummy even if you don't actually lose all the weight you want.

I think 8 lbs in 2 weeks is do-able! Especially if you do high protein and high fiber- and make sure you don't drink your calories! No sugary drinks! Also, check out this article healthdivas.blogspot.com/2011/06/can-800-calorie-day-diet-help-you-slim.html it has really great tips on slimming down quickly- I think you would really benefit from it. Also, make sure you exercise! It will help you feel (and look) more toned.

I lost a stone in 2 weeks doing slim and save. You order online. Its like Cambridge diet. Havent put any back on during my 2 weeks off, and just starting again for another 2 week block. It is possible. Good luck!

Ok, first off, so one of those body wraps ( I did universal contour wrap) you get at beauticians. it's a quick fix, and wears off, I lost 11 inches overall after 1 session. Then do Atkins for 2 weeks, I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks. Totally achievable as a quick solution to get you into the dress, but obviously not a long term solution, after the event work on a fitness plan that has you eating less and exercising more.

Another vote for Dukan. I once lost 7lb in one week! I was about 11st to start. It was to get into a dress for an event too! Probably not recommended long term though.
And I must have had serious water retention thinking about it...

So I got back on the scales this morning and apparently I weigh 11st 8lb. So I can only conclude that my scales are faulty and I now have no idea at all how much I weigh relative to when I bought the dress!

You are lighter in the morning than you are at night!

11st 2.6lb this morning :) this low carb lark actually works!
I don't believe the 12st to 11st 2.6lb in a week weight loss, but I do believe the downward trajectory - delighted!
