Low carb is really good and very effective. You will lose weight without counting calories or feeling constant hunger. I lost 50lbs this way and continue to eat low carb as it keeps my weight stable without effort (I'm 49 now). As a vegetarian it might be a bit tricky, but if you eat dairy (cheese, eggs etc) as well as tofu, you should be able to manage.
