Houmous

I am trying to loose a bit of weight at the moment and lower my cholesterol. When I want to snack I choose Houmous and bread sticks or popcorn (homemade), is this really bad???

Low fat houmous and carrot sticks would be better or maybe home made potato wedges sprayed in fry light and cooked in the oven with low fat tzatziki would be nice. I love to snack I wish I had the will power to steer clear of it! X

Home made tomato salsa and vegetable crudites (celery, cucumber, carrot, cauliflower florets etc) would be better if you want a low calorie & low fat snack.

Weigh your houmous and count the calories, or it can really add up. Lately I've been having four oatcakes with fifty grams of houmous for breakfast. That's about 350 calories for not a large portion and its a bit odd as not really breakfast food. But it tastes nice and it keeps me full until lunch. As a snack that would be too many calories for me, though.

You can make a nice salad dressing with hummus. Just mix a little with water and possibly lemon juice.

It's actually quite fattening though isn't it? I always thought oh it's just chickpeas it's healthy but all the oil they have in there it's worse then mayo.

I sometimes make it at home and use very little oil and put some fat free Greek yogurt in,that probably doesn't make it houmous but its sure nice.
