An exercise class at my leisure centre called power (it has just changed its name from pump) could anyone tell me anything about it.

I cant do any running classes but I need more information before I dare attend.

It is more than likely a class that use a bar on which you put weights. It is set to music and you work your major muscle groups
A bit like body pump ( google it)which is a licensed class
Used to love body pump but my new gym does not do it :-(
And very female friendly
Hope that helps

Is it really fast paced ? Will I be struggling to keep up with which weights to use ?

No not fast paced at all. You do set movements for each major muscle group. Each track lasts about 3 - 4 minutes.

The instructor should give you an indication which weights to use - heavier for squats / back tracks and lighter for biceps etc initially. Do not be tempted to use too heavy a weight to start with - it is better to use lighter weights and finish the track! It doesn't matter what others in the class are using!

Have fun - I love pump and have noticed a massive difference in my body shape!

Bodypump - and the non LesMills equivalents - are GREAT
I did it when I was so heavily pregnant I could not walk ....

you will have time to change your weights during the class - along with everybody else
start light - 1kg each end for upper body, 2kg lower body
and see how it goes
when you have the weights right you do not hurt at the time but are stiff as a board two days later
and bit by bit you'll be able to up your weights in each class
