Dukan diet - emergency post Christmas fat!

I am back again! My Christmas started in November and I have gained a full stone. Ouch!
Started Dukan on 3rd January and it has been hard, hard work breaking the habits of chocolate and wine and bread and so on......
I know I can lose a stone in a month if I attack and stick with it.
Anyone fancy joining me? Could really do with the help!

I need to lose weight too - just how to do it is the question. Was considering joining BIWI and her low carb bootcamp.

What is the difference between Dukan and low carb-ing?

Good luck, btw. The first few weeks are always the hardest.

I had great success on Dukan in Oct/Nov, but took whole of December off! Will be starting afresh tomorrow.

Hi all - have dukan'ed in the past - although I don't generally do any pure protein days - as I love veg too much (and I get constipated), but otherwise I stick to the principles.

Gained a few pounds almostastone Oct-Dec and back on wagon on 1st Jan. Hope I can get back to my target weight by the end of January but if not hope to be close.

First week is hard but feel now I am "in the zone"....

Differences dukan and low carbing:
Dukan - is low fat / low carb / high protein - so fat free dairy is allowed plus he advocates oatbran each day. Plus every 2nd day no veg.

Low carb is generally high fat / very low carb. Veg is allowed provided total carbs under a certain amount.

Hello! I also don't do PP days and instead if weight watchers yoghurts in the morning that are full of saccharine I have a small amount of berries and low fat yoghurt. I doing Dukan for next 4 weeks then thinking I might turn to Briffa as a long term plan but I will worry about the next 24 hours first!

I am back to work in the morning and this is where Dukan is v easy for me - busy, no junk, routine!

I also put my name down for the low carb boot camp but can't quite get my head around the amount of fat you can/ should eat. I did Dukan last summer and easily lost over a stone but have put about 7lb back on so need to get back on track. I'm up for a support thread especially as I weaken in the evening having been good all day!

Ooo! Me! Me! I started on Saturday and have lost 5lbs already. I'm really chuffed as I put 5lbs on over Christmas so I'm back where I started now.

DH is doing it with me which helps. I'm determined to do attack for 5 days and then I'm not sure if I'll stick to the switching between P and PV or just do PV as I'm finding the lack of veg really hard already.

DH did it last year and lost 2 stone which he kept off. I didn't join him because I was breastfeeding and NEEDED carbs. He wants to lose another 1.5 stone to kick start his marathon training and I'd like to lose 1.5 stone to kick start my summer clothes shop!

Had oatbran porridge for breakfast, beef soup and yoghurt for lunch and am making burgers from mince, onion, egg and herbs for dinner.

gilbert I've been making porridge with it using a little bit of skimmed milk and half a teaspoon of sweetener. It's ok, very 'bitty' tasting but edible.

Aspiemum I don't know much about Atkins but I think it is low carb, high protein but high fat? Dukan is low fat, low sugar, low fat and high protein.

To begin with you can only eat oatbran, no fat yogurts and skimmed milk, meat, fish and eggs. After an initial 'attack' phase vegetables are introduced but only on every other day.

I just usually stir oatbran into yoghurt as too lazy to make anything like galettes or muffins! Breakfast for me - 2 egg omelette, 100g of yogurt with oatbran.

Atkins - high fat, moderate protein, no carbs (ie no dairy)
Dukan - low fat, high protein, some carbs (from dairy)

Briffa good long term, but actually 2 diets v v similar. Briffa allowed food like nuts fruit and seeds, so essentially dukan is a low fat version of Briffa - for faster weight loss.

It seems either way carbs are the ones to watch then. I'm thinking low carbing might be the way to go sad

aspie low carbing really works but I have found your energy levels really drop off quite suddenly as your body stops the usual metabolic pathway for making energy- so you really do have less energy- and that is what gets to me, I like having loads of energy and being able to work out and when low carbing- you don't really feel hungry as you can eat protein, but I've always found it harder to then do anything.

Carbs are in everything though, but carbs are essentially sugar- so it's just a nosugar diet, without sugar, your body needs to burn fat to fuel itself. very simple. But hard to follow (for a carb addict like me)

I have had so much oatbran porridge in the past, I genuinely love it- but I question the wisdom there as to why oatbran and why not some salad or vegetables. There are carbs in oatbran, the reason he gets you to eat it is for fibre, I thought- hence a little veg/ some berries/ an apple would not be vastly different

Hi everyone! 6lb down and weight starts with 11 again! Phew! Work clothes tight but can get in most.
Am in the zone so far and enjoying the first few days of quick weight loss!

No wine at the weekend is my next killer.........hi drywhite!

My low carbing starts tomorrow, hope I don't suffer an energy dip with 8 month old twins to look after. I'm going almost Atkins style tbh as interested to know if it improves my pcos symptoms any. It's a controversial diet it seems but am thinking it might cut my carb addiction!
How on earth I'm going to manage the morning without munching on toast I've no idea sad

Hi aspie, my sister does Atkins. She loves it and it really works.

I hear you on the toast.....over Xmas I was having 2 white crumpets with butter and small bowl Cheerios. I now have low fat yog and berries.
I wonder why I gained a stone! ! ! ! Ha ha ha

Had a blip yesterday and was not surprised to see scales hadn't shifted . Focussed today and going to do attack till the end of the week as I am not working and it's generally easier at home. I just need more willpower !

Aspiemum, when I low carb, it really helps with my PCOS symptoms, and your energy levels go back up after the first week. In your frist week you experience "carb flu" which is yor body making the switch to fat burning. You have to be brave to stick this out, but it is so, so worth it! People are dropping 6/7lbs in their first week over in Bootcamp smile

I'm 6lb down in just 4 days and my jeans definitely feel looser. This is going to be my last day of attack thank goodness!

I'm starting to crack. I was desperate to lick the knife I used to make DD peanut butter on toast which is disgusting really. To my warped mind it would count if I did that rather than eat the square she rejected!

Wow 6lbs in 4 days is just the inspiration I need to hear right now as I have poorly DS who is up in the night and grumpy through the days which means I am shattered and craving bread, cakes etc etc for energy. I think DS is about to have a nap and I might just join him. It will keep me out of the kitchen if nothing else!
