Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

I take it because it contains lots of different vitamins, including magnesium and zinc. I hadn't been taking it until recently, after a long break, because it does contain artificial sweeteners. Actually, when I've finished this pack, I will not be taking any more, because of that.

I have some other calcium, magnesium and vitamin D tablets, which is what I will be taking after that.

You don't have to take any supplements, halfthesize - but I'm very aware that at my age, thinking about osteoporosis, it's probably not a bad idea.

Thanks for new thread. I realise I have missed LOADS of birthdays and hope lovely days were had

Had pork medallions with mushrooms and spinach in a creamy porcini sauce - so tasty

We have our street BBQ tomorrow and it looks like the perfect day for it

I've been doing more reading about vitamin D, and, actually I think there is probably a case for supplementation there. Unless you live somewhere where you can strip off and get 20-30 minutes of sunshine every day, supplementation is a very good idea. Lack of vitamin D is implicated in cancer, especially breast cancer. And as my mum died from advanced breast cancer, it's something I'm very aware of.

I drink berocca. My wee is bright yellow afterwards.

That is all. Grin

hello! I'm on another low carb thread but thought I'd try this one too if that's okay.

Breakfast: scrambled egg and sausage
Lunch: chicken with cajun mayo and rocket
Dinner: rump steak fried, with cauliflower cheese.
Snack: Green & Blacks and glass of wine - bad day, but YUM Grin!

I have been taking some supplements after reading IPD book. I take Berocca, Omega 3, Co-Q-10, chromium and a menopause-y supplement. I know they are all synthetic but I also know I don't eat well enough to get everything from food so view them like an insurance policy. I live in an area where there are no farmshops, etc for really fresh veg and supermarket veg is apparently not good in nutrient terms.

I do feel less hungry/shaky, etc when I take the chromium and it is supposed to steady the blood sugars.

First time I've posted on the diet threads, but I wanted to voice my appreciation to BIWI and everyone else who is brave enough to post.

The bootcamp rules and carb content guide have been taped to the kitchen cupboard for the last 7 weeks, and in that time I've lost over a stone and a half!

Reading the threads and hearing everyone elses success gives me so much motivation to carry on....even when freshly baked brownies are staring at me with their chocolate chip eyes!

Viperidae careful with chromium if you're on any medication - I was going to take it for blood sugar but I can't because of another tablet I take.

I also read somewhere you're supposed to take calcium, magnesium and zinc together as they can deplete each other.

Anyway my knickers keep falling down, my jeans give me a builders bum and my bra gapes... so thats good news :o

Viperidae · 07/09/2012 23:51

Thanks Auntie Maggie. I am not on any other medication except for an inhaler when needed which I think is ok.

I'll have a look about the absorption, might have to take them at different times or change something, I'll let you know if i find anything exciting.

Well done on the falling down undies! I'm looking forward to that but am going on holiday in a weeks time so might have a slight delay!

Why oh why do I forget the effect sugar has on my sleep if I eat it in the evening - note the time of post, I have been awake for two hours....so it was good chocolate - Green & Blacks & Montezuma - yes both! eating chocolate doesn't happen often, so I forget that before going low carb I used to lay awake most nights, it's never worth it. Note to self - stick a post it on the choc cupboard reminding me of sleeplessness effects of bloody sugar. Grrr

Got to pool and it was shut! Bummer. No time to drive to another one as need to swim for an hour and also need to be back to supervise hair, clothes etc for ballet (DDs not me). Will have to try again tomorrow but will ruin my newly coloured hair!!!

Ah me. Boiled eggs and boursin beckon instead.

Tried on jeans again. Size 12 look good but maybe a bit big. That can't be right.....can it?!

I finally managed to pluck up the courage to get back on the scales, and they are reading 9 stones 11 and 1/4 pounds, which is pretty much where I was before my holiday, so I'm dead chuffed about that.

My next target is to get down to 9.7, which hopefully will mean I have got shot of the muffin top! I'm going to try the 16 hour fasting approach for the next three weeks until Bootcamp starts - not eating for 16 hours after my evening meal. I'm not always hungry in the morning, so I think this might be doable.

Hello new thread.

BIWI and everyone who posts and encourages, just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for motivating me and de-mystifying low-carb. I am thoroughly enjoying this way of eating. Five days in and I have SO much energy that I turned down DH's offer of a lie-in Shock

yesterday..
B: Spinach omelette
L: Tuna and boiled egg salad
D: I did that tofu recipe but substituting garlic and chilli for the peanut butter and dessicated coconut. Served with lots of kale and cauli rice. YUM.

Does anyone know about Quorn? Even though it's marketed as a 'mycoprotein' or some such bolleaux, I am suspicious of it. Am I right to be?

Report
Finbar · 08/09/2012 09:19

Hi EwanHoozami - I eat Quorn as am a veggie.
Dr Briffa doesn't like the stuff and I was mightily disappointed to read that in his book.
However, it is the best meat substitute I know and contains lots of much needed protein. I have lost weight on this WOE using Quorn and will continue to do so.
