I recently joined slimming world and am bored to tears by the meeting. The meeting lasts about an hour, about 50 mins is spent discussing each individuals loss/gain.

Are most meeting so dull?

oh I was going to go tonight but am now thinking of doing it online

do you get all the recipe books when you join a class , and do you pay extra to get them?

online there is 2 prices , one included books here

it's an extra £20 though!!

No recipe books, a few leafles and a guide with instructions and food lists. Thw website is okay but if I want to know a syn value I find google faster!!

All the meetings are that boring. I hate them. Shame really as I am trying to do online but would like the support of a group just can't bear to sit through the discussion of each persons loss/gain. I really prefer the diet to weight watchers though.

i find meetings tricky too... its part of the package tho and sw maintains they're v useful.. for me it's the 'new girl' for the 6th time feeling which makes me feel a bit fed up... i like them on facebook and get some good ideas about meals etc from there.
prob for me is that it's practically law to eat berries and muller lights with everything Grin (bokey boke boke for me!)
that said i am thinking of going back to class. going to think of it as me-time. can read up on recipes/daydream when i am there and not pay attention to so much of the 'chat'
hth & best wishes for whatever you decide to do!

I don't stay for the meetings.

I've just signed up today - only online though, I can't face the meetings!
Do I need to buy any of the books? There are a couple of recipe books that look good but I reckon I could find everything I need online..

thisisformatilda i'd resist buying books if you are already someone who cooks from scratch and has a broad-ish repertoire of home cooking.. then its a case of swapping butter/cream etc for f-free fromage frais/creme fraiche etc.
on the other hand they (books) can be useful if you're feeling stuck and unsure. i find magazines provide useful recipes too.. :)

Hiya, I joined SW online last week, just had my first weigh in this morning and I have lost 7.5 pounds!!! So chuffed with myself!! Especially as it feels like I have eaten loads all week. Just had a cheeky penguin with a cup of tea only 5.5 syns...

Joined tonight! I doubt I'll be staying for many meetings!
Things I have 'learnt' tonight:
When I cook, I already cook healthily.
My cake, chocolate, ice-cream, cheese sandwich, crisps, sausage roll addiction really has to stop as this is what is making me fat :)
I need to eat more fruit and veg and less fat and carbs.
I'm quite excited and I really like what I have seen. I just need to do it now but I agree, the meeting are too long for me too!

I have joined online tonight

Am quite confused and trying to get my head around it...so I can eat as much pasta/potatoes as I want???

Ninja - 7.5lbs Shock wow! I lost 3 lbs, hope for more at my next weigh-in.

Re carbs my leader does say eat as much as you like and I think some people at the group aren't doing very well, she doesn't seem to discuss portion control though I have only been 2 weeks. A couple of members I spoke to eat a few muller lights a day and a few bananas too and then wonder why they stall.

Hi, can i drop in?
I joined sw on tuesday. I have been losely following the plan since xmas and lost a stone, but hit a wall 4 weeks ago. So going to the class to get that extra kick up the bum. My mum goes to the class and has lost 4 stone and my best friend has lost 9.5 stone.

I find the plan easy to follow, generally dont feel hungary and love the meals. However it is the treats i suffer with, i am a real chocoholic and evening treat picker so still trying to get my head round being good in that sense.

I think that alot of the classes are the same, a long time of sitting still and listening. I am lucky as my group is a really popular award winning one, and is very friendly and fun. Still do the each person talking but you dont get bored through it. Class is 2 hours aswell!.

Does anyone have any tips for motivation for getting active? Gym is out of the question for me. ( cost/ time/ shame) do walk the dog but need motivation to kick it up a gear.

Ggirl - mullerlights are freefood, the only ones that arent are the ones that have the cherry layer on the bottom, I think they are 1 syn. You can have unlimited pasta/potatoes - but the key is, I think, to ensure a 1/3 of what you eat is superfree ie, fruit and veg

It would be good to have a support thread, the one thing I miss from doing WW is that they had a good online forum, but there isnt one with SW.

Halloween - I need to start getting a bit more active too, Ive got loads of exercise dvds, I will need to get them out and dust them off.

I've had a horrible headache for the last few days. I've been doing SW all week but first class was only yesterday. I know that this sounds like a stupid question but is there such thing as sugar withdrawal ?! Before this week I ate a lot of sugar :(

Kitty, there certainly is. I have had awful headaches which i'm sure are down to the huge cut in sugar! You will feel better in a few days.

gggirl, the cheesecake mullerlights are also not free.

Halloweenduck, glad to hear you know of people who have had success. Do you know how long it took your best friend to lose weight as I also have about st to loseSad

Thats the one thing I have struggled to get my head round with this diet, I have always been a WW girl beforehand and always got used to limiting and weighing out rice/pasta/potatoes etc. So to be able to eat them freely feels a bit weird. And with all the low carb diets around - dukan etc, Ive got it in my head are that carbs are the ultimate Bad Food.

Thanks goingtoo I feel dreadful but hoping it will pass. I haven't eaten any sugar other than that in fruit. My body is used to me constantly topping up with chocolate, sweets, cake. I feel like I'm going cold turkey!! :o
