Thanks Solo! Grin

I am doing better today. I find it so hard to concentrate when I've not had enough sleep.
Have realised that when I'm hungry and it isn't 'meal time', I am eating all the wrong sorts of things and I need to be better organised. I love ham sandwiches as much as I love cake, so why am I eating cake when then triggers a sugar craving and it spirals from there?

I haven't put more than a pound back on though, which I'm pleased about, and which proves that this way of eating is becoming second nature despite what has felt like a bad couple of weeks!

Thanks solo.

Marking my place while sitting in a café eating some millionaire's shortbread (slowly and consciously) with a lovely espresso with real sugar. You can't do that on most diets. Might have a little trouble leaving a bit on the plate though. Yum!

I'm starting to feel much better. The worst of my pain appears to have passed so I have been able to cut down my painkillers - no codiene means I'm much less fuzzy headed :) so I'm feeling much better overall!

Thanks solo.

BBB mintcake has been my name for a while. I think there were a few of us at the time with food names but my sleep deprived brain can't remember any others :)

So today I'm doing ok with the not snacking or eating when I'm not hungry but eating slowly is def going to take some getting used to. Any tips?

my sister gave me her paul mckenna book today. after many failed diets(including WW) i am hoping this one will work.

i don't eat too unheathily but i am definitely guilty of large portions, picking at the kids food, and eating when i'm not hungry.

my weight today is 168lbs, want to get down to my pre pregnancy weight of 130lbs(ish) will pop back in every now and then when i am brave enough to weigh myselfGrin

Hi thanks SOLO
i am still here although I went into town yesterday and did some searching around the healthy eating/ dieting section of waterstones and came back with a book called beyond chocolate and another one about intuitive eating - can't remember the name - other names cropping up are Jane Hirschmann and geneen roth - has anyone read any of these or know about these approaches - what to you think?

Report
MaloryMad · 18/04/2012 16:00

Thanks for the new thread, Solo

crazynell I've read Beyond Chocolate (even paid for their e-course once), two by Geneen Roth and the Jane Hirschmann one. Now to be fair, I read all of those but tried to diet at the same time. For me that absolutely doesn't work. I ended up going crazy eating everything - counting my WW points then having a huge binge because Roth and Hirschmann were telling me to eat what I wanted. (They also tell you that you must be in touch with your hunger, but I chose to ignore that!). Hirschmann also says to overstock the house full of everything you've previouslly banned. My house was like a Cadbury/Mars/Nestle warehouse...and I just overate even more. Geneen Roth talks about God a lot too - may work for you but it's an immediate turn off for me.

Beyond Chocolate, nice book, good for making women be kinder to themselves and quite helpful, but again, it never quite clicked for me. Because I've done their ecourse I'm a lifelong member of their forum. All the girls on there are lovely but TBH, only one or two have actually lost any weight and some have gained quite a lot. There are regular threads where posters are saying 'I'm going back to WW/SW'.

As you can probably tell, I've been battling with this for years. Over 30 to be exact. I'm now 50 and I've done every diet, read every book, even been to Overeaters Anonymous. And nothing has worked like its working this time.
I think the CD's got a lot to do with it or maybe it's just all clicked for me this time. The one thing I have done is that I'm absolutely not dieting. I'm just following the GR's. I know some here have combined PMK successfully with a diet but that doesn't work for me. The other thing is that I'm much more relaxed this time about losing weight, and I think that's made a huge difference too. If it takes 5 years, so be it. At least I'm not depriving/starving/stuffing myself.

wow..sorry about the novel there anyway hope it helps some!

my own update, been out to lunch, had about half a pizza. It was ok. Then did a mini shop at Waitrose, just a few things to tide me over till weekend. I think I'm going to do a kind of Nibble Plate for supper tonight, got some nice cheese, a few tomatoes, some strawberries and some almonds, so I'll just make a kind of tapas thing.

Hi everyone, just joining the new thread. Been following this for the last 3 weeks and I've not really lost anything as I have found myself off track a few times. I've only got a stone to lose so I know this will be super hard and slow as I'm at that place my body likes to float at IYKWIM.

But today is a new day and I am going to give this a real serious go now, I am feeling very motivated. Got a size 10 wedding dress to fit into in 3 months eek! I have also today completed day 1 of the 30 day shred DVD which was hard but do-able, going to do it again tomorrow before work.

To all of you lovely ladies, can't do names yet as there are so many of you and the thread moves so fast, hope you all have a great day and in the wise words of PMK- TRUST YOURSELF! Lol.

Hi Malory
thanks for replying :) I'm not getting on with PMK at the moment - don't know if its me or what - i've got a lingering cold thats getting me down. I feel a bit resistant and feel like i can't be bothered with anything. I too have done loads - and i'm a bit older than you (!) WW susie orbach, etc i lost 2 stone or so last year and got down to a size 10 - i think i got too obsessive about it all and its sent me off in the other direction now - i'm not sure what i want to do - i'm rambling! I like what they say in beyond chocolate so i might give it a go and see how i get on. :)

Hello to all you lovely Paul ladies!
I'm new to this and hope you don't mind another voice!?

I'm turned to paul after reaching my heaviest ever, 18st. blush you are the first people i have ever been honest about my weight to, which scares me.
I'll be 30 in May and my weight is starting to terrifies me, i've tried ever diet imaginable and just feel trapped within this weighted body...

Right, positive thought!
I'm on day 3 and am slowly getting the hang of things. it's hard to remember to down my knife and fork when what i'm eating is so good. it's killing my not having any snacks but i'm hoping that will pass.
what i wanted to ask, how is everyone finding lunches at work? i work at a school and am worried i wont be eating enought or at the right times as a have timed lunch breaks.
Also i just cant eat untill i'm full for breakfast.

sorry to have gone on, i just hope i can stick with it.
Xx

Hello and welcome Em. I think you kind of got lost at the end of the last thread. I've also got a lot to lose, and know what you mean about feeling trapped in the body - but it is slowly changing.

Can't help you with the lunch thing as I don't have set lunch times, but I must admit I find it easy not to snack on PMK - unless hungry of course.

Stick with it - I'm sure you'll get on fine.

Hello ladies,

Been out all day today on home visits so have not been able to pop in and out. I got home starving as I had not eaten since, 12pm ( a ham and cheese sarnie) so it was really hard to eat consciously and not overdo the portion size. But I managed to an ok pace - could have been slower but I had gotten too hungry. Need to plan better. I did manage to eat less than I would normally do, so all in all a reasonable success.

One thing I find is that I was so used to eating till I felt stuffed, that the pleasantly satisfied feeling does not feel "right" IYKWIM. I feel like I am still hungry even though I "know" I am not. It's weird. Does that make any sense??

Also, what does Paul say about tea and coffee, with sugar in it?? Can we have this freely, especially the sugar bit.

Finally, I am very ignorant. Could someone run through the various abbreviations that people use, like DS, DD, OH etc. It makes it hard to follow what people are saying.

Thanks

Hi to Em and all the best starting off to you and Bamboo.
Rosylee as you'll probably gather from that link mostly people are referring to family members.
I have realised my key flaw is not sitting at a table to eat. I've been using a lap tray lately and it's not helping. When I made DH DarlingHusband eat dinner at the table the other night, I felt full way quicker. I was quite Shock at the difference. I think I feel well enough to go back to work next week and I think the routine will help.
Rosylee I think tea and coffee are ok but be conscious of whether you want them or are craving them - it may be the tapping technique helps you keep them to a minimum.

Thanks for the link MardyBra.

HaveALittleFaithBaby it's not that I crave tea or coffee or even sugar. It's just that I hate the taste of sweetner in tea. Love it in coffee, though. I have one cup of coffee first thing to kickstart the brain. I will have one or 2 cups of tea for the day with 2 sugars at my various visits. Today I only had 1.

I never suffer from cravings, which is something at least :)

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 18/04/2012 19:30

Ah that's pretty modest consumption! I wouldn't be too worried about it says the woman who has drunk 5 cups of tea today!
I get bad sweet cravings, especially chocolates. The worst I had was wheat though, I'd crave pasta, pizza, bread and my ibs was awful. When I cut it out, the cravings were bad but went after a few days. I've read that if you have an intolerance to something you tend to crave it. Weird no? Craving what is bad for your system? Hmm

Hi ladies

Hope all are well and happy!

I am starting to feel a bit freaked out by my PMK experience. Today I've just had 3 meals. Small ones. And one small bit of snacking whilst prepping the kids tea, and that wasn't because I felt nibbly, but was because I could tell I was flagging a bit and so had some raisins and a small banana. And that is it. All day. For me this is utterly unheard of. Normally I would be convinced that I need to eat pretty much on the hour every hour otherwise I would collapse into a heap of starvation and faintness.

And I'm not even TRYING to do this. It has just happened, while I sit on the sofa looking at myself like this Hmm and Confused and thinking to myself 'erm, don't you, you know, want to go and eat stuff' and I just carry on sitting on the sofa carrying on mumsnetting doing worthy deeds, because I just can't be BOTHERED to go and snack. I just don't fancy it Shock.

I'm pretty sure it's the nightly listening to the CD that has done this. I'm almost worried by the change, does that sound ridiculous?

Sorry, just had to share as I don't want to become a PMK bore to people in RL.

Sounds like things are happening exactly as they are supposed to LaWobble
Good for you!!

I had my tea around 6pm last night but by 10pm, I felt slightly hungry again. So I ate a bit more and a little later, had a small bit of cake. I did not go overboard, but the cake was a bit extra. I don't feel too guilty about the cake. But I did feel as if I shouldn't be eating again if I have had my tea. Although, to be fair, I had eaten less for breakfast and lunch than I normally would (on PMK, I mean) and wondered if my body just needed the extra fuel?

What I mean is I only had an Oatso simple sachet for breakfast where I would normally have some protein and carb combined. Lunch was only a sandwich which staved the hunger but I was by no means full. Tea was an appropriate size. So I think maybe I ate even less on PMK than I normally would because I was out on work visits and did not eat a reasonable amount in the first place?

Does that make sense? Also, just realised that when I say "what I would normally eat", no longer refers to pre-Paul, but post Paul!! At least for this post. Hopefully my brain is getting the message that eating only what the body needs is normal for me. I too listen to the CD, but always miss the end as well!!

Yay for school choice Ali!
I agree that it sounds like you're hitting the stride of Pauling Rosylee and LaWobble. It creeps up on you. I did a rather drastic diet when I could only have 1200 calories a day for the first week. I was starving and miserable. But some days I eat less when Pauling, the key differences is eating it consciously. It's so much more filling!
No regrets about the cake Rosylee if you were hungry and you wanted it, it's fine Grin
