Weight Watchers V Slimming World

twincrazy · 01/01/2012 22:01

Another diet post - another year gone of me still being fat

After years and years of trying with Slimming World and cheating, and having no portion control i tried Weight Watchers which I find harder, counting points, and being hungry more..

Now I need to lose this weight now...and would like to hear from people that have lost weight on either plan and any advice on which plan to follow and why..

Help xx

Have a look at Rosemary Conley? No points or syns, and exercise in the classes not just a weigh in.

Did SW years ago and didn't work for me as I wasn't learning to control my portions. I am doing ww at the minute and have lost some weight although still have a long way to go. But I feel that my eating habits are changing for the better as I am now making better food choices and not over eating at meal times.
Good luck whatever you choose :)

I have done both and prefer slimming world. I lost 2 stone between August and December and although I haven't been able to go for 5 weeks I only gained 1/2 a pound over Christmas so I think it works quite well for me. I would like to lose 3 stone more this year.

I have done both and currently doing slimming world. I've lost 1st8lb since May with another 2st2 to go. I have not reduced my portions any as i love to eat lots and it is still working well. I don't really get any big loses but when i stay on the plan i lose something (1-2lb) every week! I feel like i can stick to it because i can eat big portions and most meals can be completely free, leaving syns for special things! I use the extra easy plan and think that the best weeks i have are when i go crazy on super free foods, it seems the more i eat the more i lose!

I have fallen off the wagon a few times but it seems easy to get back on again!

I never really feel like i'm on a diet, where as when i did weight watchers i ALWAYS felt like i was on a diet!!!

Hi Twincrazy - I started SW at home before Christmas (I picked up the books on eBay and just followed it at home, no bloody time/too bloody knackered to get to a class in the evenings) - at have lost half a stone.

I know it works as I have several friends who did it, but I am also making sure I'm throwing in at least three work-outs a week (a brisk walk around the block or a manic whizz on the exercise bike).

Like becky I love my portion sizes on the large size, but it does seem to work, weirdly.

If you need a diet buddy I'd be delighted to offer my support! I want to lose 2 stone and get back to some vague semblance of pre-baby size! :)

I find WW too ruled by their branded ding-meals. Which are usually high in salt and not that great for you.

I have never once heard anyone at WW mention a WW ready meal.

As you can see by my name this is something I have been thinking about for a while. I have done ww several times but never stick to it as I find I am too hungry. I am thinking about trying SW tmoz and think I will give it a go now.

Slimming World all the way here too!!

Between myself & my dh we've lost almost 7 stone. Both are target members and find the plan very easy to stick to!

I'm also a consultant. (felt I had to say that incase i'm accused of not mentioning it!)

I have done both in the past and am about to go back to SW after Xmas.Went off WW because I found the constant points counting made me depressed and I also got fed up with the constant pushing of their products

There is never a right answer for these threads as everyone is differant and wants differant things from a weight loss plan. I have done WW,SW,Rosemary conley and several others and when I was doing them they all worked fine Grin. It is how well they fit into your lifestyle and if they are able to change your unhealthy lifestyle patterns in the long term that count.

If you asked me a year ago what I liked best I would have said Slimming world. But due to no available class ,I rejoined weight watchers in June after a gap of over 10 years. Obviously everything was very differant and I was struck by how flexible the propoints sytem is - and how once you have been doing it a while you dont really count much at all. I also realised that the lack of any portion control with slimming world had not helped me to learn any self control -so when i ate unlimited off the plain i was just being a greedy pig Grin I have lost over 2 stone with weight watchers and feel much more in control of my health than ever before - but I would not tell anybody its THE BEST ,just that if you need help in learning to manage portion size, and to plan your healthy lifestyle, that it might be more suited. Of course I might not mention my Christmas 49 extra weekly allowence in one day binges Grin

Incidentailly if you do WW online, there is a quidco cashback offer that makes it £1 for 3 months, so worth a try perhaps? Have posted the link on the online topic above.

TartyMcFarty - the last time I went to Weight Watchers they kept going on about how many points in this ready and meal and that meal. Not necessarily the leader but other members. I just find the whole branded food thing a bit off putting!

Hey Munchkins! I'll give you support! I'm doing SW from home but will happily offer ay support and encouragement I can!

Don't feel low, it's bloody hard work being a mum and trying to find time for yourself to diet and exercise, something else always comes up - work, children, shopping etc. The great thing is that you are finding time for yourself now. You'll get there.

Let me know how to get on tomorrow and PM me if you need a buddy - but I bet you make some great friends tomorrow!

xx

Thank you very much sharks for your kind words. I'm actually starting on Mon now as dh works every wed this month but I do really want this to be a permanent weight loss as I yoyo so much and it cant be good for my health. How are you finding it?

Munch - I find it easy peasey! I'm a veggie so it's very simple for me to follow as the free food is pretty much what I eat anyway. Plus I can stuff my fat face and apparently that's ok too. Yay!

So long as I'm prepared and organised (like all diets) I can stay on track very easily. I promise you, you'll love it - I know meat eaters also find it very simple.

My DP doesn't care what he eats so I just cook the same as me and he doesn;t know the difference.

Diet - how was it last night?

Sharks, I think you are going to be a great motivator for me! I've just had a look at a sample 7 day menu and it all looks good and not far off what I have now. I think for me, it's upping the exercise that will be the key. I'm joining a gym next Mon too and will go 3 times a week which combined with SW should be the kickstart I need. Thanks again for your encouragement!

Munchkins I am starting SW in about 1.5 hours!!

I did do WW and was doing OK until all the points changed, that and a change of venue meant I stopped going.

Hi! I think with WW/SW they are very much suited to diff kinds of people. If you like, and are used to, cooking things from scratch (like me) SW is better. WW seems best for those that are more into grabbing something pre-packaged where you can easily work out the points. I have tried WW before and was starving most of the time and found it a faff to work out the points of all the ingredients. However, I joined SW last Weds and had my weigh in last night and lost 3.5 lb. Also got slimmer of the week as nobody else had lost (because of xmas/new year)! I have had the best week, have eaten some gorgeous meals and big portions (spag bol, meatloaf, ham egg and sw chips, stir fry....). Cant wait to carry on my SW journey.

Congratulations Rach, well done, brilliant news! I love cooking and find SW ideal for that reason - but also love that I can just have a jacket spud and beans if I'm tired or can't be arsed.

Munch thank you, we can do it, I know we can. Sorry, a bit cheesy, but sometimes we all need a bit of a cheer!

Exercise also a great idea, I used to loads before DS was born, but have now reset my goals as being more realistic, otherwise I will get frustrated with how rubbish I am and go and open the wine! I'm aiming for 2 cardio of 30 minutes and one swim. And I won;t beat myself up about it if I don't make it one week due to DS keeping me up all night (like last night, little monster).

Five - how did you get on? Seem ok?

Wow, Rach that is brilliant especially as it was xmas etc! Thank you Shark, I think I work better with positive reinforcement and someone who understands how ot actually feels to be always worrying about food /weight. I cook from scratch so it seems sw will be more up my alley!
Good luck to everyone embarking on a weightloss journey....
