Would I be mad to buy a wardrobe of clothes 2 sizes too small??

Have been loosing weight for 4 weeks now. Am VERY determined as I have officially finished having children and I want to get my body back (well get it into shape a bit anyways!)

I'm currently a size 16.

I've lost 11 lbs upto now and have just bought a treadmill and am ready to step up the excersise too.

Thing is, its my birthday in a few weeks time.

I know my husband is giving me money and some other family members too, I never get anything good for myself as I hate shopping at this size and I can't 'keep' the money as I know it will burn my pocket over xmas and i'll end up spending it on the kids.

I've already bought myself 2 monsoon dresses in the sale and they are hung up in my room to inspire me.

So do you think I'd be mad to go and spend my money on size 12 stuff?

I do KNOW that I'm going to get there.

And I'll just get basic stuff, a few flowy dreses, tights, tops ect ...

I wont get anything thats difficult to fit, like jeans, until I'm actually a size 12!

I think it might give me a real boost opening my wardrobe and seeing all those lovely, fashionable clothes there, rather than the maternity stuf and a few huge jumpers i have now.

WDYT?

I'm not a fan of that as a tactic on the whole, but if you'd find it a real motivator why not just buy one gorgeous dress in a size 12? Not a whole wardrobe. You might find that your body shape changes as well as reduces and you'd have a wardrobe of things that fit but don't actually suit.

Well done on the weight lossa so far, but I would hold fire on buying a whole new wardrobe. It may take you longer than you think, or you may get derailled. Or as Wurg says you may find the things you buy now don't actually suit you as you can't try them on yet.

Don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket!

I would say no as well. I have been losing weight for a year now and have lost 92 pounds. I have had to buy new clothes more times than I can count. A couple of times in sales I have bought smaller sizes of things I already had and generally it was a mistake. Once I reached that size, I found that I no longer wanted to wear the clothes as my shape would allow me to wear tighter fitted clothes for example. The style of clothing I amwering has changed dramatically, and many times, over the course of the year. I would say buying one dress as a motivator is fine, but not more.

I absolutely agree with wiifitmama.

I've lost 64lbs so far and am now buying clothes in a completely different style to those I used to wear. Part of the great joy of losing weight has been going shopping and buying clothes in increasingly smaller sizes.

Could you put the money in a bank account and request no bank card or cheque book initially. That way, you won't have access to the money!

Give the money to a relative or close friend and tell them not to let you have it back until you're ready to go out and get clothes and certainly not to spend on the kids.

No - your shape will change - it will be better to buy the clothes as you go/when you get to the size you want to be. Is there anyone you trust to look after the money for you? I'd offer, but I'm guessing any sensible person would say no to some internet sprite offering to look after their money Grin

Congratulations on making such a good start & being so determined!!

What if it takes longer to lose enough weight to fit into the clothes than you anticipate? You may be left with beautifully fitting ,size 12 , 2 years out of date, charity shop donations.

Buy something classic and lovely to aim for and put the rest of the money where you cant spend it (give it to DH?best friend?)

Insanity. You can't be sure how your shape will change and look in clothes when you are much lighter.

Get someone to look after the money, but if you really want to splurge on something now, what about a great pair of boots or shoes that you can admire your rapidly slimming legs in as you shrink? And/or better still, a few personal training sessions maybe? Brilliant for ensuring your exercise regime is properly focussed and boosting motivation.

How about asking for a gift card [with a long expiry date] for your favourite shop instead of cash? That way it can't get lost in general expenses and it's there for when you need it. TBH I find it much more inspiring to buy a new outfit as I go down each size, rather than wait until I am a size 12. That way I can really appreciate how my body is changing and it motivates me to carry on and achieve more.

Ask for money on a giftcard and spend it once you lose the weight. Or ask for post dated cheques?

I got from a 16 to an 8 in 7 months and gift cards generally have a year on then.

Impossible to know if something will fit right when you lose the weight.
