Right, have got to shift this flab!

FlamingoBingo · 10/08/2011 15:10

I'm so sick of it, it's making me miserable. I lost over two stone over the course of 18m a while ago, and have put on over a stone since then, and I really hate myself for it!

So what can I do to lose it again?

Problems:

Cannot get myself back into calorie counting or the up day-down day diet, both of which worked really well last time

Cannot get myself back into loving running, which really helped too

Very short on time

Very short on will-power

Swing from 'I've got to lose this flab' to 'Oh fuck it, who cares!' - NOT helpful.

Please, please help me!

I'm the same. I have very little willpower and can't afford to go back to slimming world which helped before. I have back problems so can't do much exercise. I've got 5 years to get down to my ideal weight for my wedding now the date has been put back. We're also ttc so any loss would be good.

Ok stop with the 'I've got no willpower I cant do it' crap

Put your trainers on. Tonight. And go running. Stop making excuses. Do it the day after tomorrow too, for half an hour, walk some of the way if you have to. Write it on your calendar so you make time for it

Eat smaller meals. Smaller plates help. Dont eat between meals. Stop eating sugar/white bread if you can.

Consider yourself slapped across the MN face Grin

And poster with back problems, there are lots of things you can do, power walking for one

I walk a lot anyway. We have a round trip of about half a mile to town which we walked today. I've just started trying to control portion sizes. Bought some breakfast plates which are about half the size of our dinner plates. I use splenda rather than sugar and wholemeal bread. I know a lot of my problem is with comfort eating.

Sorry littledragon but a round trip of half a mile will make no difference.

Sorry to sound harsh but you've got to walk further than that, and faster

Only you can control your 'comfort eating' and its not bringing you much comfort now is it? Its making you bloody miserable. Make a choice for your health and your body shape will follow suit

Sorry if I sound mean, dont mean to beSmile

Yes! you should be scared! I am coming at this from a similar place, i was always really fit and exercised a lot, then changed my job and things (and my body) slipped

But unless your brains in the right place, you can't do it

I hope I havent upset little dragon Blush

I know - your brain has to be in the right place.

You need to have that moment of absolute clarity where you say to yourself I got myself into this mess- I DID, and I'm the only one who can get me out, not Slimming world, not Weightwatchers, ME.

And I can either carry on eating to cover up how I feel , or to make myself feel better for the 3 minutes its in my mouth, or I can do my body the biggest favour ever and be KIND to it and move it and stop stuffing it full so much and feeling disgusted with myself afterwards.

Phew

Littledragon try and do something every day, make it part of your day. It can't just be a saunter to the shops (altho thats better than driving) it has to be something to get your heart rate up and you sweating a bit. You wont want to eat crap if you feel pumped up from working harder.

Have you got an ipod? Could you put some good dancey music on that and go for the fastest walk you can ?

Kay I know you think that about exercise but as one who has stopped exercising for periods it does make a huge diffference to what I can eat and how I feel

BUT j'agree eating less will make biggest difference to waistline

motovational tips:

  1. Paul McKenna - helps get you in the zone
  2. MFP log what you eat, even if you go over calories - helps you get in control of portion size
  3. Commit to do 30 day shred each night
  4. Drink a cup of water every time you feel peckish
  5. Cut out sugar and refined carbs from your diet; eat protein at each meal

I dont agree with using anything other than yourself

The only one who wins with the Paul McKenna method is paul McKenna

No ipod. DP makes me walk at his pace which means i do get out of breath. DP brought me a plate piled high tonight so i put half of it on his plate.

Good girl, its all those little things that will add up over time Smile. It took a long time for you to put the extra weight on so will take a long time to lose it and more importantly KEEP IT OFF

You have to realise you cannot go back to your old habits.Ever. And you might find some people dont like it if you start to lose weight and change your ways but you have to ignore them!

Excellent thread! cyb you"re certainly inspiring me! I"ve put on weight giving up smoking and I had to be in the right place to do that.I"m now getting to the right place to lose weight.I find it helps imagining myself in a particular situation in the future(eg a social event) and imagining what I will feel if I have lost weight and how I will feel if I haven"t. When I want to eat something I know I shouldn"t I think of that. Mind over matter!

Yes it feels FABULOUS to be able to do your buttons/zips up comfortably and know you can wear ALL the stuff in your wardrobe, without leaving red welts round your middle

I'm trying to do it too at the moment, have rejoined gym and not eat crap between meals/smaller portions.

We can help each other!

My DP will support me with whatever changes i want to make. He is the main support i have due to recent events causing rifts in the family. The hardest thing for me is not snacking

Report
LittleDragon · 10/08/2011 20:14

The problem with DP is he's never been overweight so doesn't know what it's like or how to help me.
