Been thinking about Pauling as I have recently picked up the book/cd/journal for the princley sum of £2.50, bargain.

How much success has everyone had on this?

i went to the seminar courtesy of Paul McKenna and mumsnet. and did really well for 2-3 months.
i had more energy, looked healthier, made healthier choices and got more exercise.
...but i didn't feel like i'd lost much weight. anyway, i lost my focus and have been very stressed and fell off the wagon.
but it still all make sense to me, i believe it works, so today is day 1.

Hi MPN and welcome :)

It does work. I lost 2 stones, but then fell off the wagon and have gain a bit back. I need to focus again. It is a great way of eating and actually, I was never hungry whilst doing it, so I must seriously get back to it ~ especially if I have to get into my uniform in January!

Day 1 then :)

HELLO EVERYONE!! HAPPY NEW THREAD DAY!! Thanks to SOLO for the grand title.

nevergoogle I took no at all notice of the weird H.V.s and their 'technically underweight' business. I remember the H.V. saying that my 1st. DD was underweight; she was 6lbs 11oz. at birth so smallish; put on weight, fed and grew healthily but was small 'cos my MIL was small and DH is not v. big. (except round the middle!!) DD's still small at 31. and still healthy!!

nevergoogle · 25/07/2011 14:43

thanks ppeatfruit. i don't do HV's, the paediatricians have done loads of tests (none conclusive), but are holding back on biopsy (which is their next step) as he seems to be gaining a bit more now that he has inhalers, and iron and vitd supplements. he's bright and cheerful, but lacks the energy of his brother. but i think he's fine really.

Sorry I meant to write 'took no notice at all'!

Welcome Mumpotnoodle I have lost 2 stone on Paul Mckenna and am maintaining as it was my target weight loss: I tell you what if you stick to it once you're doing it seriously the weight drops off esp. with exercise (You don't need to do the shred!! just do what suits you) and you never get hungry. BRILL!!!!

Oddly because you eat slowly and consciously you actually CAN'T eat very much so wait to be hungry again!

I find that having a cup of coffee instead of a meal is not a good idea.

Nevergoogle Does yr DS have asthma? because i don't know if you've heard of the Buteyko method of breathing . All it is is teaching them to close their mouths and nose breathe and it bloody works! You can do it along with their treatment. It's cured my DH and our DS of asthma.

i have heard of buteyko, and hear it's good. i thought he'd be a bit young to learn it, i'll look into it, thanks.
his asthma is mild now. he used to throw up every night with coughing, but hasn't done that for a long time.

How timely, I bought the whole set of CDs last week and read the book this weekend. I'm yet to listen to any cd yet (have put them on my iPhone), so must do that today. I've got about 2 stone to lose, started exercising last week and lost 4 lbs althoug that's since I last weighed myself on the wii fit which was a month ago.

Those of you who've done so brilliantly, what are your top tips?

I'd like to join you but am off on holiday soon, so won't be posting much until mid-August.

Just wanted to run something by you all though:

I have just had a rather too common experience for me where I inadvertently end up eating more than I meant to:

Had lunch, nice brown crusty roll (which I went out specially to buy because the bread we had in the house wouldn't have been "right"), with St Agur cheese, followed by a pear. I took the trouble to take the cheese out of the fridge half an hour before lunch so it would be soft. So, as you can see, I am quite fussy and quite a foodie.

Anyway, all that was fine - but the pear was horrible! It was ripe but tasteless and I was so disappointed. So disappointed, infact, that I had to find something else to eat to make up for it. I had an appetite for something that hadn't been satisfied, so my default mode is to satisfy my appetite no matter what.

What do you (or rather Mr Paul) think I should have done in this scenario?

Report
nevergoogle · 25/07/2011 15:27

i think it comes down to whether you were eating because you were still hungry (fine) or if you were eating to change the way you were feeling ie. disappointed (not fine).
either way, i doubt you compensated by eating a block of lard.
you'll be fine.

check me out, day 1 and i'm giving advice, arf.

I seem to be just losing the same few pounds but I am definitely lighter (ha) than I was in December. I just can't get my head around my food issues and keep it there. At the moment I feel out of it. Breakfast was stuffed with cheese mini peppers, lunch was half an hour ago and was a take away pack of carrots and houmous and I have just had 7 large olives and 2 slices of emmental cheese. At some point today I had a mini pain aux chocolate.

Hello ladies, lovely title Solo Smile

Bibitty I think the correct thing would be to have a glass of water or a cup tea and wait half an hour to see if you were still genuinely hungry.
In practise I would probably have wolfed a punnet of strawberries or something!

I have been Pauling for 3 months and I've lost 5lbs. I am very pleased because DS2 is only 4 months old and there are a lot of sleep-deprived nights in my life! I am the same weight now as when I got pregnant with DS1 almost 4 years ago. I have also dealt with some of my issues around food, which I really think is going to prevent me from piling this weight back on again in future.

I have been pauling for about 3 months and have lost 1st 1lb so far with a target weight loss of 2st max, that will make me 9st 7lb. I am about 5' 3" so that hopefully should be plenty.

I have been stressed with exh today so not done great but a lot better than I would have before. I have told him to leave me alone so will be back on it tomorrow properly! Going to carry on Reading book now.

We call him PMK in this house, dh stopped smoking using his system.

Can you listen to one of the CDs at bedtime? I seem to remember dh had a problem doing that with the smoking one because at the end he said something like " you will wake up full of energy" and dh would wake up, having only just got into bed twenty minutes before. I just thought it would be a good time to plug in.
