decided I am going to give low carbing a go, but not really got any idea where to start. I am going to a wedding next week so will have to go back to normal eating for a couple of days (although friday is a bbq and there will be a lot of meat available I think).
So until next sat what do I eat and drink?
so far this morning I have had scrambled eggs and black coffee. can I have salad? I was going to do fish and chips for the kids for tea, can I have fish and salad instead?
what veg and fruit can I eat?
Can I have fat free yoghurt?
Quorn?
any other tips?
How much weight can I expe ct to lose in a week? I understand that you lose a lot in the first week or 2 and then it gores back to a normal weight loss level, is that right?

Depends whether you want to do lowish carb (and then you can eat dairy products) or a very low carb diet (a la atkins who doesn't allow the dairy stuff but does allow fat - ie a ketogenic diet).

You can't do carb free and low fat, need to get calories from somewhere, but you can do lowish carb and lowish fat (what I have been doing).

Downside of a ketogenic diet is that can't really take a day off from it though.

What attracts you to a low carb diet? Do you lurve meat and mayo and cheese and wouldn't want to give those up? Or are you a cake addict and want the diet structure which means you would be able to cut crap carbs out in a controlled way? What is your motivation other than to just lose weight?

I am such a carb junkie which is why I never manage to lose weight and keep it off. wondered if cutting it out completly would help. bought loads of meat and fish with shopping today so think probably just do low carb, also bought some fat free yoghurt, didnt buy my usual 4 packets of rice cakes.

I found this site really helpfull when I was low carbing. I am starting again Sunday, if you want a diet buddy?

Cauliflower rice is very nice, if you often eat a lot of curries with rice.

Good luck - watch out though fat free yoghurts do contain carbs though, natural ones cntain lactose, milk sugar and flavoured ones often contain fruit so fructose and sometimes also have added sugar as well as sweetner. If you do want to have dairy best bet is greek yoghurt flavoured with berries, I use tesco frozen summer fruit....

I have been eating some fruit (apples, pears and berries mainly) and occaional activia fat free and other natural yoghurt as part of low carb diet.

For a start, just cut out the complex carbs, especially the crap refined stuff - pasta, bread, cake, rice, spuds, sugar.......

Then make sure you are eating loads of good protein - meat, fish, eggs, full-fat yogurt - and plenty of veggies and salads. Fruit in moderation.

I don't read diet books, but just applying these principles helped me lose 1.5 stone in a few months, and a year later it has stayed off.
