Hi, have a huge amount of weight to lose (9 stone Shock Blush ) and obviously need to start doing more exercise

I am not comfortable at the gym yet, I know I know, no one will be staring at we wobbling but I'm not ready yet

Is it worth getting the Wii fit?

Will it help to build up my fitness level?

Can it even take great lumbering people like myself?!?

I have the opportunity to buy one off a friend for £40, is it worth it or not?

Thanks :)

Erm, how fit are you?

The boxing and jogging wears me out but I am seriously unfit. The rest of it is not so good. And a bit boring after a while tbh.

I am currently wanting an x-box with kinect. It's the only possible thing that will help me lose weight you see Grin

Actually wii fit is good for keeping track of your weight and goals accurately. So it''s upto you, would you pay £40 for a set of glorified scales with graphs that shouts at you and says "Ouch" when you step on them Xmas Grin

Oh I SO want an Xbox and Kinect!

But Then I'd need an Xbox...then a bigger tv....it's a whole can of worms!

Cyb-I can't buy any more trainers! for this reason!!!

Ok seriously though, where do I go about getting proper trainers from (i sound like an idiot I know! but footlocker or Office are my usual haunts :o)

Not very fit Doo!

I'd rather my scales didnt shout at me tbh :o

may give it a miss then I think!

God this weightloss thing is a minefield!

I dont know where to bloody begin!

I'm really unfit too and Wii Fit is ok to start bur EA Sports Active gives you a better workout and you can choose your level.

Oh yes EA sports Active is good and the so are the dancing ga,es if you are co-ordinated enough to make them work. I am not Xmas Sad

Try MandM Direct for 'proper' trainers. That's where DH bought me running shoes from when I decided to try running. Which I intend to restart soonish

Hi Milk

I have a lot of weight to lose too (10 stone Blush ) but we will get there.

My dd got a wii fit for Christmas and I've been going on it everyday since. I like it and even the hula hooping leaves me breathless. I am not very fit at all at the mo but once I've dropped a couple of stone I'm going to get EA Sports Active as I've heard lots of good things about it.

I have also just bought an annual pass for our local zoo so lots of walking round it is planned.

All the best
Emma

I'm in several minds about it!

I may see if friend will lend me it for a bit to see if I'll use it!

I'm going to start walking to work now...I think Confused! ...it's a 20m walk for most people, 40 for me probably!

I like the idea of hula hooping on wii fit :o

I'm lethal with a real one :o

All the best to you too!

Milk/Emma! :o

Save your money as I only ever use my board with the step workouts on More EA Active but you dont really need the board for it though. I found the More Workouts better than the original (trainer is more friendly in second one) but you need to buy the leg band seperatly if you dont have the first one. Dont even look at the new one as I have read a lot of people have had issues with it connecting. Good luck with whatever route you choose to go down.

I have it, it's good for a basic workout, or to get you into the pattern of exercising and to keep you motivated, so if you're struggling with that, it's definitely worth getting. As others have said, it's very good for keeping track of where you are with the weightloss, but the Just Dance games are more fun (JD2 has a workout feature on it) and there are a number of games that don't use the board for workouts.

So to summise, decide what you really want to get out of it before shelling out!

Am borrowing the Wii fit, so we'll see how that works out!

Is it odd to be nervous about losing this weight Hmm

Why would it be odd Milk? Think it would be more odd not to be nervous. My only tip is don't tell anyone, that way they won't keep asking how you are getting on.

Good luck.

Annie, my reasons are the same, I'm 22 and have always been fat and had food issues. my parents got the blame and blame themselves, but god knows it isn't their fault!

I'm Milk, I'm fat and I hate having my photo taken, and I make fat jokes about myself all the time and pretend I'm happy.
I'm the fat friend who doesn't dance when we go out, looks after the bags and is the butt of strangers jokes

I CAN'T be that person any more, I just can't

Milk if you need tip for trainers, try Decathalon and by a pair of New Balance trainers.

The walking thing works but you need to keep at it.

I've been power walking for about 8 months now and am LOADS fitter. I'm not much thinner as I decided not to diet as it makes me crazy, however, the more exercise I do the easier it gets to cut out my bad habits one at a time. Thus my weight is going down but more importantly my bad eating habits are being killed off one by one, which I think is (hopefully) going to be a recipe for being slimmer and healthier for life.

Start and don't give up Milk.

I love wii fit plus, you can get risers for the balance board for step (can do free step for 30 mins at a time while watching tv, and up the pace) and add ankle and wrist weights - it's a good way to get started I think. You can also make muscle/yoga routines for whatever length of time you like and move seamlessly from one to the next. Plus of course it keeps a record of your weight loss and inches too if you measure and input your waist size from time to time. I like the daily calorie goal thing too, although it takes three times as long to burn 500 cals on wii fit as it does in the gym.

Oh tell me about biggest loser for wii? Obviously can't be expected to google in my weakened (have got a cold) state.

Also wanted to ask OP (and anyone else) how do you know how much weight you want to lose? Or do you just think 'I want to be roughly x stone/kg because it will give me a BMI of y, or my jeans will fit or what?'

There is podge on me but I don't know how much it weighs or how much I should weigh without it. My gp gave me a number but it seemed a bit arbitrary given the relatively high levels of podgenosity I am still contending with.
