I know I'm eating too much, but how do I stop?

I've lost about a stone and a half since DD was born 9 months ago. I still have half a stone to lose, but a few weeks of visitors, travelling and illness have meant I haven't been exercising, and have lost the motivatin to eat healthily. The past few days I've eaten at least 2 mince pies, 2 chocolate bars and a bag of crisps as well as my 3 meals a day. I need to stop. I'm finding it harder to exercise as well, as DD seems to be dropping her morning nap, which is when I would usually wokr out. And the cold weather and snow have made my weekend run much less tempting.

If I keep this up, I'm not only not going to lose any more, but I'm going to get fatter. I need some advice, or at least a kick up the arse!

Blush Fliss, people I 'know' aren't meant to know I'm fat!

Sometimes, when you eat things you wish you hadn't, it's not hunger you are trying to satisfy. Not physical hunger, anyway.

What's missing? What are you lacking?

Are you trying to fulfil a need, desire, wish?

Is christmas looming over you?

Are you bored?

Are you tired and need to sleep better?

^^What PC&TT said

Think about why you're eating. If in doubt have large glass of water before snacking because sometimes thirst fools us all in to eating.

Also I've always found it helpful to think of calories/fat intake etc on a weekly basis. E.g. one day there are mince pies, choc etc - let yourself go for it but I incorporate that in to a weekly intake so one 'bad' day on it's own is actually fine and you can start the next day afresh with impunity.

That way I don't beat myself up with 'well it's all gone to shit now I may as well have another cake' and can concentrate on it being a part of my weekly intake/treat iyswim?

I think the winter months can be very difficult. I have been struggling too - was running 3 x per week and doing 4 gym classes in the summer, now only run once a week and do 2 or 3 classes depending on weather etc.

For me I think it is the food as reward thing, in the summer life is easier and I don't need food as a reward, everything feels like a real effort in the winter and I just want to hibernate and eat!

Try googling Paul Mckenna ICan Make You Thin. it changes yr attitude to food; there's no special foods or sins or calorie counting and it works I've lost 7 kilos and still loosing!!
