Getting wedding dress framed

Bubnomore · 06/12/2020 00:46

Hello,

I’m thinking about getting my wedding dress put in a deep picture box to display as I can’t think what else to do with it

Would appreciate any tips and/or details of who you used to do it.

Thanks!

...would you put this on your wall??

Yes, thinking of displaying on a wall near the main bedroom.

I think that’s a bit much 🤔

If you’re only planning to frame your wedding dress and put it on your wall because you “can’t think what else to do with it”, rather than because you genuinely love the idea, why not donate it to a charity shop?

That way you support a charity and help someone who can’t afford to buy a wedding dress.

A framed white dress on a wall would freak me out a bit. If I wasn't expecting it in someone's house, at first glance I would probably think there was a ghost floating towards me or something. Sorry op just not my cup of tea.

Sounds a bit wierd I'm afraid. Why not just keep it in a dress bag in your wardrobe and get it out occasionally if you want to look at it. Having it hanging on the wall is all a bit Miss Havisham.

How long ago did you get married? I'm sure your wedding dress is beautiful but they don’t look the same hanging up.

A ghost? Really?

I suppose, partly, it depends what kind of house you live in. Sandringham? Fine. My 2 bed semi? Ridiculous.

My friend has done this, but it’s only the top half she’s framed (the rest is hidden behind), so it’s much much smaller and it looks really nice on the wall. I donated mine to charity as it was taking up too much space!!

I donated mine to

Why not just have a nice photo of it instead?

Yes, keep it in a dress bag and wear it on your wedding anniversary (at home, obviously - you'd look daft in KFC). Then in years to come you might consider (I'm going to whisper this) having it 'remodelled' in some way. A Christening gown, a shorter dyed dress. You love it so try and make it, make memories for the next generation.

Well OP, good thing you live in your house and can put whatever you want on your wall!!

I stayed in an AirBnB once that was a (large) family home. The owner's wedding dress was framed and on a wall that was at the end of a corridor going to the bedroom. It wasn't a public area of the home. It was actually quite nice! I'd never have thought about doing that but it's something so personal, it's nice. However, it'd be way OTT if it was anywhere public. Part of what was nice to me was that like the couple's secret.

If you want to do this, you'd need to get a conservation framer, and it won't be cheap. Even then make sure it's not near any damp source, or it will get mouldy.

I've seen this on Instagram but never in real life. A quick Google finds this - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-planning/bridalwear-articles/wedding-dress-framing-how-to-frame-your-wedding-dress-amp.html - with the company being promoted starting at £900.

I was a bit unsure what to do with mine but I found somewhere online that cuts the dress up and makes napkins/ a little tablecloth/ teddy’s etc so with mine I’ll be having teddies made for my daughter and some fancy napkins. Just an idea if you’re open to other suggestions.

Is your husband going to do the same for his suit?

Still not sure why something attached to a wall would appear to you to be floating in mid-air, but each to their own, I guess.

Blimey. That’s even worse than my cousin who puts her wedding dress on every year on their anniversary and makes her husband watch their full wedding video 😂😂😂

Bit Miss Haversham isn’t it ?

I love wedding dresses and would be delighted to see this is anyone's home regardless of country pile or one bed flat!
Go for it OP! It's very niche, I'd just contact some local joiners?

I'm always looking at my wedding dress, which I'm saving to pass on even if as just a keepsake. Sadly too small for me now!

I s looked at some pictures - pretty terrible. If I saw that in someone's home I would have to readdress my view of them 😂😂
