Gorgeous Yellow diamond

I was delighted when my other half proposed last month and together we chose a stunning yellow diamond radiant cut with clear diamond pears on the side. I've had mixed reviews. I adore it and cannot imagine any other ring on my finger. But I have had "i actually like if' 'it's a bit quirky' 'it's not the standard is it?' It was actually much more expensive than clear diamonds we also looked at. Anyone else with a 'quirky' yellow diamond? X

It sounds lovely and I e see a few rings like this in shop windows. It's different to normal rings but that's good that you haven't felt the need to follow the fashion of a solitaire. Personally I'd like what you've chosen.

The cost is unlikely to matter when people are commenting.

Yellow is my least favourite colour, so I wouid never choose it for a gemstone I wouid wear every day.

So I suppose any comments I made, which wouid be intended as compliments (because you clearly - like any other fiancée - have ring you love) might come across wrong because genuine liking of the object isn't there. But my happiness at the announcement of an engagement is real.

Do remember that in the long run, the marriage is more important than the ring. Not everyone has the same taste in jewellery, but they're still, commenting as positively as they can because they are celebrating the engagement itself.

Sounds gorgeous OP! Love the sound of the setting also - clean and classy..
Just rock it!
people will always hav their own taste and opinions. Whilst they should keep them to themselves, unfortunately try don’t.

It’s your ring. No one else has to wear it. And you love it - so wear it with confidence and who cares what anyone else thinks! (Most are probably jealous tbh..)

Bear in mind that yellow diamonds aren't as popular and don't hold their value as well as blue cut/clear diamonds.
I've been getting insurance valuations for some family jewellery and each jeweller has said despite the cut of the diamond, the colour will go against me, lowering the price.

I bought myself a radiant cut, fancy intense yellow
diamond ring. It’s beautiful. I love it. I like white diamonds too but fancies are more special as they are rarer.

It doesn’t matter what other people think (and they should keep their negative, small minded opinions to themselves). Enjoy wearing your yellow diamond and be pleased that you and your fiancé chose something more individual than the ubiquitous round brilliant solitaire.

Thank you lovely ladies. The value (though very costly to buy) fortunately wasn't a deciding factor when choosing our ring. I tried on much more and much less expensive rings but with my colorings and wanting a bit of colour and a timeless cut this ring just shouted out to us. And I'd hope I'm never in the financial situation we'd need to sell it, so depreciation shouldn't be an issue. I'd read that yellow diamonds are 1 in 650,000 diamonds although the are the most common of the coloured variety. Ideally I'd hoped to swap private photos of yellows but I seem unable to message privately on my phone app. Anyhows I love it and find myself staring at not believing my luck of the man attached to it. I thought it'd be fun to swap similars, so if anyone know let me know x

I also have a beautiful yellow diamond engagement ring. I'm not engaged. It was a gift from my Mum, who saw it and thought I'd like it. It's my most treasured possession. I lost it a while ago. Couldn't find it for months. I asked my (very religious, Catholic) friend to pray to St Anthony for me. She very sadly died a little later. And then I found it in an old handbag shortly after her death. So it means even more to me now.
Don't bow to others conventional ideas about engagement rings. If you love it, and the person who gave it to you, then that's priceless.
I'll post a pic of mine.

It sounds gorgeous and you love it, which is what's important.
It's good to be different and quirky. Who wants a boring white diamond like everyone else?
If it makes you smile every time you look at it, then that's all that matters.

I have a petrol/teal coloured sapphire, I love it, super sparkly and an unusual colour, matches my eyes, and my husband put a lot of thought and effort into choosing it and designing the setting. I love it. Have had a few remarks about it being unusual and quirky but ignore them just like all the remarks about the number of children I have, fact they are all boys, and SO many other aspects of my life. The ring is from him to you. If you love it then it is perfect.

I used to work with a lady who wore a beautifully set yellow diamond ring. It was gorgeous, but there was definitely a hint of "nicotine fingers" about the yellow shading that was a bit off putting. But she loved her ring as much as you clearly love yours, which is the important thing.

Technically yellow diamonds are the least desirable discards so cheaper. Diamonds don't come out of the earth perfectly clear or perfectly yellow, they're shades of yellow with the perfectly clear/white ones being most desirable and expensive. The level of yellow reduces the value. Likewise clarity etc. If you Google you'll find the charts used to grade them. It won't have been the fact it was yellow that meant it was more expensive than the others you looked at.

But that's irrelevant (although might be influencing some of the reactions). You like the ring and the two of you are happy to be marrying.

It sounds absolutely beautiful, OP. My friend's engagement ring has yellow & white diamonds and it's unusual & pretty.

I have a ruby, because I like coloured stones better than white diamonds and didn't want a solitaire like most others seemed to have at the time.

All that matters is that you like it.

As a jewellery designer and diamond grader, I can honestly tell you that yellow diamonds can be absolutely beautiful! I love the cuts you have chosen too! They certainly aren't seen as often as white diamonds but isn't that what makes them even more special! I truly hope you don't get put off by other people's opinions as everyone is so different!
I recommend getting an independent valuation carried out and ensuring you have the correct insurance cover on it. A good place to get one done is through safeguard or by an irv registered valuer xx

I can also categorically say that Fancy colour diamonds including yellow diamonds will be more expensive.
I believe the person advising you differently is referring to white diamonds which are tinted yellow in which case the value does decrease but a fancy colour diamond is different!

I don’t have an engagement ring, my choice, but if anything had been able to tempt me it would have been a yellow diamond (gold band).
I think they’re beautiful and I’m someone who doesn’t like the majority of engagement rings.
