So for the ladies wedding favours I want to make a homemade lip balm. I'm thinking of trying to make a gin flavour one. Has anyone had any experience making their own lip balm & can offer advice on ingredients. There are so many different recipes online with varying ingredients, just wondered if anyone could offer any tips. I can't seem to find many gin flavoured ones. Do I use real gin or gin flavour? confused Also how do I make the lip balm a nice colour?

Loads of recipes online for lipbalm, remember you'll need containers too.

I'd reconsider the gin flavour, it's not going to be to everyone's taste!

It will to the people who will be receiving one 😄 already have containers I just need a recipe that's been tried & tested by someone

What are the men getting?

I would love a gin lip balm as a wedding favour

Not made them myself, but I've seen some Gin soap recipes which might help you formulate a recipe?

Men are having mini bottles of gin (hopefully homemade too) I've decided to do different for men & women & thought gin flavour lip balm would be a nice touch. We only have 26 day guests (7 are children) so fairly certain the women won't be bothered the men are getting booze & they aren't 😊

I would prefer a mini bottle of gin. smile

iklboo Tue 01-Oct-19 15:54:58

I'd prefer the miniature too smile

I was pissed off when SiL did similar all men got mini bottles of malt and the women got chocolate.

DrinkSangriaInThePark Tue 01-Oct-19 16:06:10

I would be so pissed off to get lipbalm while my husband got gin!!

GaudyNight Tue 01-Oct-19 16:07:42

The women will revolt and steal the men's gin, and you will be left with mildly outraged guests of both sexes and a lot of leftover lip balm pots.

I echo everyone else, would prefer the gin miniature.

Don’t do m/f gendered gifts. Naff!

dollius Tue 01-Oct-19 16:14:18

Homemade lip balm??? Erk

Aprinceinapaupersgrave Tue 01-Oct-19 16:17:31

Another one who'd prefer the actual gin. Please don't do separate favours.

PrestonNotHeston Tue 01-Oct-19 16:19:40

I'd be a bit confused about what might have gone into homemade gin lipbalm, to be honest.

GatoFofo Tue 01-Oct-19 16:22:16

Another vote for miniatures for everyone.
I’m a woman who loves gin but I’d hate gin lip balm (especially home made), sorry 😐

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee Tue 01-Oct-19 16:22:47

Gendered gifts are lame, I'd like a gin lip balm, but I'd take a miniature over it Any day. If you are doing gendered favors consider very similar ones, like gin lip balm for women and lime aftershave balm for men? Or soap?

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt Tue 01-Oct-19 16:22:54

As if you're going to make gin lip balm and give mini gins to only the men.. just give everyone gin, end of story!

Skinnydogfatcat1 Tue 01-Oct-19 16:24:53

It doesn't matter what you do, the women will nick the men's gin anyway!

purplecorkheart Tue 01-Oct-19 16:25:35

Honestly I would prefer the gin. I am forever losing lip balms and also would be wary of using a homemade on as I have no idea how long they keep for.

merryhouse Tue 01-Oct-19 16:32:05

surely if they all like gin they'd like a little bottle of gin?

I'm not convinced I'd want to use someone else's home-made lip balm (especially if I knew they'd never done it before).

Do you really need wedding favours?

...I freely admit I'm an old killjoy. When we got married last century the Done Thing was still three sugared almonds in a gauze bag and since I didn't like almonds much I said sod that and saved a bit of money and hassle. Went to several weddings which had them, and nobody seemed at all fussed.

AnchorDownDeepBreath Tue 01-Oct-19 16:34:51

I wouldn't gender the favours either. Everyone will want gin, because alcohol always goes down well and I'd worry about what was in a homemade gin and whether I'd have a reaction to it...

We're not doing favours at all, but if you want to, just bulk buy gin miniatures and people can either drink it there or take it home smile

Countrylifeornot Tue 01-Oct-19 16:44:13

They'll just get left on the table OP, honestly no one is going to be arsed about a home made lip balm. It's a bit 1980s to do gendered gifts.
