Hi all

My sister is getting married and has asked me to organise her favours (I've offered to help and she'll pay). I was trying to think of something different but wanted to ask your thoughts. What's your best favours, here are my ideas so far.

  • Soap for the women
  • Miniature bottle of whiskey for the men
  • Bottle openers for both men and women
  • Love heart sweets (personalised) for both
  • Luggage tag (couple loves to travel)
  • Tote bag

The problem with this sort of thing is that most of these favours will end up shoved in junk drawers.

Not being rude...it's true.

Soap...many women are fussy about soap and some won't use it.
Whiskey...mini bottle is no use to anyone and some men don't drink.
Bottle openers...meh. Boring.
Sweets...personalisation is a waste of money, they will only be eaten.
Luggage tag...doesn't matter that the couple love to travel...the gift is for the guest.
Tote bag...bit better but again, this is something people have personal preferences.

Instead consider.

Little pot of succulents...image attached.
If wedding is a summer wedding, a paper fan...pretty ones are very cheap online

Unless it is immediately edible, it's got to be small enough to fit into a clutch bag or pocket - in my experience most of them get left on the table and are cleared away and chucked by the catering staff.

Alcohol isn't a good idea IMO as some people don't / can't drink.

I think something edible is always good - otherwise they just end up in the bin. I've seen tunnocks teacakes used - they stuck place card on a cocktail stick out of each one! Looked ace and everyone loved them.

Also re the alcohol...there are probably women who'd rather the whisky than the soap! Bit rude and sexist that one.

But as I mentioned and bamboo too, some people don't or cannot drink so best avoided.

Edible definitely. Where would they put it otherwise. It'll just be left on the table.

A nice fancy chocolate truffle for example or personalised sweets.

Don’t get something different for the sexes.

We had personalised M&Ms in a little bag with other sweets, and the place cards were made with a little badge for each guest.

I like the luggage tags. It reflects the couple and it’s practical.

Purpleartichoke · 29/08/2019 15:17

Oh, but on luggage tags, don’t put the couples monogram or wedding date on them. Make any permanent decoration a bit more generic. Use the insert section for the cutesy wedding labeling.

Artichoke really? I have luggage tags....most people do. I agree on reflection that truffles or something is sensible.

At a wedding I recently attended, the men had a whisky miniature. Not a good idea. One of the female guests went around all the tables during the buffet and disco and stole them put them all in a carrier bag to take home. That was one of the classier things that happened! Grin

I'd bin everything on that list bar the love hearts.

And I'd be seriously irritated if DH got whiskey but not me (why the fuck would you do that?).

don't put the favours at the table - have a goodie bag on a table at the exit so people actually take them
(I have a really nice printed canvas beach bag from a wedding which I still use so tote bag is a good one)

I'd also say edible. I went to the lindt shop and bought 2 x colours lindt ball from their pick n mix that matched our colours. Got some small cheap organza bags and tags on Amazon and a personalised stamp for the tags. Not one was left and everyone enjoyed them, not too pricy either

My MIL wanted to do our favours and is doing sugared almonds. I hate them and would have preferred Lindt truffles if I had any say! I agree most things are left behind /go in the bin and edible is the best option.

Best one I’ve had was at a wedding last year-a Tunnock’s tea cake with a little flag with your name on stuck in it. Double purpose

Edible and the same for both(?all) sexes.

Most favours are abandoned - would you consider a donation to charity? That's what I did, and every guest got a little enamel pin on a card explaining a bit about the charity and that a donation had been made in the name of all our guests.

@Pootles34 @JudgeRindersMinder were you guys at the same wedding? Grin

Agree with previous posters, edible is the way to go. The amount of tat wedding favours I've had to keep in my clutch/small bag for the evening of a wedding (usually mine and DHs as he doesn't have a bag) that then sit on a shelf gathering dust and eventually get thrown away is awful really.

We did charity donations too but the best wedding favours I've had have been individual Krispy Kreme donuts for each guest. I took full advantage of the fact that people often leave favours behind and ate so many donuts on the way home.

We had these as our favour/place settings. They made them with everyone’s name on.

Only 2 were found during the cleanup, one of which the owner phoned asking if we had it. Lots of our friends have them up all year round or use them as Xmas decorations on their trees.

Cancer research do pins that you can buy, lots of different designs, that come with placecards saying 'a donation has been made by x and y on your behalf to celebrate their wedding' or something like that, and the wedding date.

We had snowflakes (winter wedding) but there's loads of designs. I think there's a minimum donation but obviously you can donate more!

Fairly sure British heart foundation and Alzheimers research do them too.

Best and most popular ones I have seen have all been edible- posh chocolates and fudge went down well. Didn’t see any left in the tables
