Buying a wedding dress on amazon?

Lamazedragon · 15/08/2019 09:08

Hello, I am getting married next April and looking for a tea length dress. I keep coming back to a beautiful one I saw on Amazon, but it looks like it may be from a dodgy company. The dress I like has only one review and it's positive, but some of the reviews on their other items are negative and say the dress they recieved was nothing like the photo. It's a really reasonable price but I still couldn't afford to lose my money if it turns out to be no good and tricky to return.

Any one had success buying on amazon, or even better from the same seller?

You need to look at Fairy Goth Mother.

I love fairy goth mother but they're a bit out of my price range. Max spend is £200. My other option is making one myself.

@GrumbleBumble
My DD is also looking at tea length dresses so I'm following with interest.

What sort of prices are Fairy Goth Mother? There are no prices on the website.

Have they got anything similar on ebay? At least you're protected via PayPal if it's not right.

I bought a wedding dress off eBay!

It was one of those where you send all your measurements to someone in China and a month later get a dress.

It was fine for what we were doing.

As long as you realise £30 isn't going to get you a proper wedding dress, it's going to get you a white normal dress... then go for it!

Have just clicked through to seller info on that amazon listing. Company in China.

This is going to sound really cynical but I doubt those pictures even belong to the company advertising the dress.

Suspicious of them only having a few reviews.

Took a chance on a similar thing for a costume once - ball gown type dress from a company in China. It arrived and did look nice, looked similar to the picture but the size was wildly different to what was ordered. It was a pain in the bum to return and contact with the seller was impossible. Not trying to tar every Chinese dress-making company with the same brush! Of course there must be some great ones! Nevertheless just know if you order it you’re taking a big chance it will be what you wanted, will fit and will get here on time. for an important occasion like your wedding I wouldn’t take that chance.

If it seems too good to be true it probably is!

Have you looked on Facebook ? I bought a beautiful handmade tea length wedding dress last year that was just perfect, however we changed the season of when we are getting married and now I can't wear it so it looks lovely hanging up in my wardrobe....ooops hahaha

Go to sample sales and try wed2be they have stuff you can buy off the rack and take away the same day, the prices are massively reduced from the normal wedding stockits.

Try eBay. You could go for a pre owned designer dress (mine was 10% of the cost new and within your budget)....no one can tell it’s pre loved and I don’t regret buying it for one minute....I could never have had a dress like that otherwise! At least with eBay and PayPal regardless of new or preowned you have protection if not as described.

I think you would need a hoop with that dress too. It's stunning tho. If you can return it if you don't like it then I'd go for it

I ordered from Honey Pie boutique, and my dress was beautiful. You should get something in your budget there without the stress. You send your measurements and they make it for you. I wouldn't risk Amazon personally.

I'd be very careful.

When I was planning my wedding 12 years ago - I was on a wedding forum and a few members had ordered from these places in China etc. Very few came as anticipated.

Better off to buy a pre-loved dress from an Ebay seller or similar.

My wedding dress was a sample dress from the wedding dress shop. it was only £200 (i know it was a few years back but most were 4 or 5 times that at full price).

Shop around.

The image is blatantly stolen from another designer - I suspect it’s Timeless Chic based on their photo shoot style and their dresses are about a grand.

What you get won’t be anything like this

@Moonflower12 they are 100s rather than 10s but not 1000s. If you go to the buy online section or the sale there are prices showing.

@Lamazedragon so many people have terrible experiences with Chinese made eBay/Amazon dresses that I wouldn't personally risk it. Try asking local dress makers for a quote.

Have you had a look at chi chi London? They have some wonderful reasonably priced dresses and are legit.

This one is very similar to the Amazon dress!

Have a look on the wedding area of MN. I'm sure someone posted a picture of their tea length wedding dress recently and it was almost identical to the ones that seller has posted on amazon, in style etc.

I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

Thanks everyone, you confirmed what I was thinking... although it was so tempting to think I could have that lovely dress custom made to my measurements for £85, it is indeed a stolen photo, looks like it is by Bright Bell and costs over £400. thebridalpath.wedding/dress/bonnie-by-bright-belle/

Someone above mentioned stacees, I'm fairly sure it is a similar company as a lot of their product photos are stolen from blogs of real brides in much more expensive dresses.

Thanks for the honeybpie boutique recommendations, I have been looking at their site too and they are affordable so that's good to know.

OP screenshot the dress and take it into a bridal shop and ask them if they have anything similar. Also ebay good idea.
