Bridesmaid dresses help!

user1473878824 · 16/07/2019 20:20

Popped in to look at some wedding dresses to get an idea what I wanted, came out, cancelled all my other appointments and next weekend am going for my first fitting for the first dress I tried on. Lovely! Easy peasy. Obviously I just knew I was somehow a wedding ninja and it would all go swimmingly.

I can’t for the life of me find any bridesmaids dresses I (and they) like!! I’ve spent four days googling and nada!

I’m happy to have them all in different styles but the same colour but have no idea where to find stuff like this or where would make them if that was needed.

Can anyone help? Where did you get yours, please?

There's a website that specialises in small colour different style BM dresses.

I'll see if I can find it.

ASOS has some nice ones, as do Monsoon and Coast. I would look beyond ones listed as Bridesmaid dresses and just for maxi dresses / tea dresses / prom dresses etc.

Do you like multi way dresses? They suit everyone as you can style them in lots of different ways. We had these:

Have you looked at something like inoneclothing?

All the same dress but can all be tied in different ways to look different. Different lengths and 39 different colours to choose from.

Thank you @DeRigueurMortis I was a bit worried about ordering them from abroad! But definitely will look now I can get swatches.

@TheFlis1234 Had a look on Asos as it’s my basic go to for everything but there’s nothing quite right on there at the moment, same with Monsoon, but I will keep watch! I’ve got plenty of time. I think!

Dessy do the same style in lots of different colours.
They are quite pricey but I managed to pick ours up for £25 each by deciding on a style and taking a chance when I saw them come up on eBay.

Mine came from Debenhams. They do lovely multi-way dresses in a range of colours so your bridesmaids can style them however they like ☺

We are having the same issue! I don't like the shiny fabric of the multi-way dresses (otherwise they'd be perfect) so am looking at David's Bridal

You're welcome OP.

I've not used them - I simply remembered them from another thread where a few posters said they'd been really happy with the service (I'm not in any way affiliated with this company btw!!).

For my part I had my wedding dress and BM dresses made by a very talented seamstress.

I pretty much drew a picture of what I wanted (as did BM's) combined with pictures that were near to, but not exactly what we wanted.

She created the patterns and I bought the fabric.

Through multiple fittings we could tweek the designs/fit.

It wasn't cheap but everyone looked fabulous in dresses that were a perfect fit and suited to the shape of the individual.

You didn't mention a budget, but this might be an option for you if you have money to throw at the problem.

Best of luck and congratulations!

@DeRigueurMortis thank you! I’m not 100% sure on the budget right now. I might have a bit of money to chuck at it as I think in a perfect world that’s exactly what I want but have no idea how to find a seamstress and one of the bridesmaids lives in Dubai! I’d rather spend a bit more and everyone was comfortable and felt great but they’re all very easy going and pretty happy to do whatever (apart from champagne and pale pinks which have been vetoed because “I will look like a sausage” which was a very good point!).

I got my 2 bridesmaid dresses online from Dorothy Perkins (in a recent sale). Similar style dresses, but different colours. I just wanted dresses that would suit each bridesmaid and weren't expensive, as no offense to them but their dresses are a v minor part of the day Grin They're completely different women and have different body shapes, so I could never find a dress that would suit both of them.

We ended up getting ours from the Vera Wang White range at David's Bridal. You could also have a look at Maids to Measure, or Ghost (though their largest size is pretty small so will depend on your party), or Dig For Victory, all of which offered really lovely options.

If you are going for a high street option, including ASOS or whatever, either leave it as close to the wedding as is feasible or buy a spare dress for material. The amount of posts on here about BMs getting pregnant or putting on weight is unreal, and if you buy high street too far out you have very few options when it comes to alterations without a good match.

This happened at a wedding I was in last year- dresses bought off ASOS two years out, style goes out of stock, BM got pregnant, not enough room in the seams to let the dress out and then I (shortarse) have to get my scraps couriered to Australia to get added on to hers- it just fit. Whereas when my DSis got pregnant before mine I called up the wedding/BM dress shop who went "no problem, we'll order another bolt of material", and then the seamstress inserted a panel. She told us it happens every other wedding she does alterations for!

Why not look are regular high street stores? Miss Selfridge, Warehouse, Topshop etc, they do lovely long event dresses that could be gorgeous bridesmaid dresses!

I got mine from Wed2Be - different styles to suit them but all same colour. Around £100 each.
