Has anyone got married at a venue out of their local area?

Hi!

I'm hoping someone can reassure me.

I live in Manchester and can't find any venues that my fiance and I actually like.

They are either too grand (think massive stately home types in Cheshire) or city hotels.

We'rs after somewhere pretty, rustic with great food and nice grounds for pictures.

I've found a beautiful pub in West Yorkshire that looks perfect but now I'm fretting that no-one will want to travel 50 mins (especially the night do guests).

Am I being silly or should I just pick somewhere closer to home even if we don't like it as much.

I know I sound ridiculous but I genuinely don't know what to do!

Get married wherever you want to!

We got married 2h30 from where we lived. Everyone had to travel, some from close by and some from the other side of the world, that was just the nature of our guest list.
We made sure there were enough rooms for people to stay walking distance from the venue, and heavily subsidised guests' hotel costs. This was possible due to their being less than 50 people.
The place we married is somewhere special to us, it just "clicked"

You will always get people who have to travel. We're getting married 20mins away but many of my guests will have 1hr travel. There is no way I could suit everyone and be close to them all.

Have you looked at Owen house, sandhole farm, dorfold hall (you use the gorgeous barn for the wedding)? Just more rustic type venues in Cheshire

Get married where you want to. 50 minutes is not far! We got married in Dumfries, which was 2 hours from where we lived at the time. It was 3 hours from his family, and 2 hours from mine. They all stayed over. It was fine. (we only had a tiny wedding though)

I live in south London/surrey borders and getting married in hampshire. It’s 36miles (1hr) from where we live. Our families live Devon, Salisbury, Swindon, London, Newcastle, Leeds, Italy, with friends in Edinburgh and surrey. People will travel. We have accommodation on site for immediate family only but hotels 5mins drive away.

We always travel to weddings and pay for hotels. I don’t think anything of it.

God for where you want

I live in Manchester and we're getting married in N Yorks (because my DF's family are from there) but my friends are all from the south and are still travelling for it!

Ours was about that far. No one declined. A lot booked hotels and made a day/weekend of it. Some drove home.

We got married at a church in Cheshire then reception at Manchester art gallery. It was fantastic. You can marry in the gallery too. People still talk about what an amazing reception venue it was. Also owned by the council so very cost effective! We lived in East anglia at the time.

Our wedding was at least an hour or two's drive from us and most of our guests. It was also on a weekday. Everybody came along, either for the day or stayed over one/two nights nearby. We didn't have any evening-only guests, though.

Go for it, if it's somewhere you love.
