Feeding the photographer

What are the options here? At the moment I’m leaning towards the same food the rest of us are having, but somewhere else? But then I feel bad thinking of him sitting on a step outside the back door and getting lonely!

Our photographer and assistant got the same main as the rest of us, but ate in the room where the evening do was going to be. A well fed photographer is important for good photos and I didn't want shots of people eating so they ate the same time as us too.

With mine he said what they prefer to happen. He didn't expect to sit with guests

I used to work for a wedding catering company. The photographer would eat the same main as wedding guests. Sometimes a starter or dessert too if there were spare. He would normally eat in the kitchen or side room.

I remember one wedding where the bride and groom hadn't paid for the photographers food. Apparently it had been in the contract to provide food so that was very awkward as he couldn't exactly mention it to them on their wedding day! I think we ended up making him a sandwich or something as we felt sorry for him.

At my friends wedding, they had a table for the photographer, organist, minister, decorator etc to eat at, same food as everyone else

Billy it’s always been normal to feed the photographer if he is staying to take photos at the night do.
Our photographer was a friend so a guest anyway but he has had different things happen. Him and his assistant have been fed off the bar menu or been given the same main as the wedding and eat in the venues restaurant usually if there is a separate one to the room the wedding is being held in.

We never organised anything for the photographer! Blush

I'm hoping someone fed him, or he brought a sandwich.

Our photographer didn't want feeding. He said we'd spent enough on the wedding and him. He was amazing.

We fed our photographer, the same three course meal we had. We did offer for him to sit down on one of the tables which he was really grateful for.
I would prefer him to be a happy helpful photographer then starving and miserable x

Ours didn’t ask for anything, but we arranged them to have the same main as the guests.

A friend took our photos. She's a professional photographer and gave us mates rates.
We arranged for her to choose a meal from the bar menu at the hotel we were holding reception at. It would have been a great meal.

My friend is getting married and is just seating the photographer with some friends and feeding him the same as everyone else. He'll be there from about 9am setting up at the hotel until the night do.
It's unreasonable not to feed someone for all that time they'll be starving

Our photographer was lovely and I wanted him to feel included. He ate the same as everyone else, and he had a space especially for him on the 'fun table!' He got on well with our friends and it made for great evening photos as he knew which people would be having fun on the dance floor (most drunk!) 😁

Our venue had a pub attached so we put £20 for our photographer and 2 videographers to get food and soft drinks.

Wouldn't most places have a staff room of some sort where your photographer could eat?

The photographer at a forthcoming family wedding is seated with the guests for the meal. . He is a professional and has done other photos for the couple before so they know he is likely to fit in well with everyone socially - minimal formal set piece photos, more natural reportage , but won’t be taking any during the meal because no one wants to be photographed as they fill their faces !

Our caterers do a ‘suppliers meal’ for £20. Think it's the main

We had a huge room that we’d partitioned off (it was our contingency plan so we weren’t expecting to have to use it).

Our photographer, wedding planners and lifeguard (long story) all ate the same meal at the back of the room. It was lovely that they could also enjoy the atmosphere etc. I think that would only work in a large space though.

We had 2 photographers and 2 video guys as well! Our hotel said normally they would just go the bar and order a main course (we could have put a limit on spending) so it think that's what they did and we picked up the tab!

We told our photographer to order anything he liked from the normal menu but then we had a late cancellation so offered him the three course meal instead :-) he accepted that happily and posted after about the great food 🙈😂

Our venue did a "service provider" type meal for the photographer and videographer. It was similar to the main meal but instead of 4 courses it was just 1 course so a lot cheaper. Might be worth asking if your venue does the same?

Our photographer is with us from 11am untill 8.30pm, we arnt having sit down meal, instead afternoon tea, we are having photos whilst guests mingle and eat this, our hog roast isnt being served till 8.30 so we have arranged for venue to make photographer a meal of her choice to eat after main photos, also to provide her with drinks as and when she wants them.
