Anyone doubting their dress choice after Meghan?

FreeMantle · 20/05/2018 21:02

Those of us who have weddings this year will have dresses in hand.
Any second thoughts now after seeing her understated number?

I couldn't bring myself to wear so anything so plain, although she looked OK in it. I do think it will make mine look a year out of date though ( although I have two cheap ones so not overly worried!).

Why would you be doubting your choice because hers was different to your taste?

I doubt the nation or Meghan will be scouring your photos to compare Hmm

I didn't like her first dress that much. It was perfect for her, and what she was trying to convey.

I did however think her 2nd Stella McCartney gown was sensational. For women with toned arms & a small bust. It would be an amazing choice

As long as it’s not strapless it will be fine.

I love both you dresses . But I think her will cause a shift in tastes.
I wouldn't wear a puffy sleeved number as it would look odd. Nor would anyone else judging by bridal shops, magazines etc.
I reckon anything a bit frockily is going to look similarly dated.

Do you think her dress that forward thinking? I thought it was very classic.

It was so so plain though

Pronovias is the simplest bridal designer I looked at and even theirs have more to them then Meghan's.I don't think many brides want dresses that basic but overdone is not a good look.

She is a beautiful woman.
The dress was perfect for her. And her tiara and veil were simply stunning.
Sometimes less is more.

I had this with Kate’s dress. When I bought mine you could only buy strapless. As soon as Kate walked down the aisle, all the gorgeous lace dresses came into fashion.
I wish I’d got married a year later.

I absolutely adored Meghan’s dress.

I thought thr dress was beautiful. Shape, material, colour and cut. And she looked more than "ok"in it.

It's not your style, that's fine. You don't need to compare. If you're happy with your choices so be it, I'm sure you will also look beautiful.

LovingLola yes that's the point. She demonstrated less is more.
So unless you have a dead basic dress as of yesterday you now look gypsy wedding.

NC4 I wouldn't worry, lace is out of style too now!

Her dress wasn't "dead basic". It was beautifully cut and designed and made of an exquisite material. There was nothing dead basic about it.

I imagine that quite a few more dresses with lace sleeves have been worn since the Middleton dress, but an awful lot of strapless corset type dresses are still in the wedding shops, so I don't think it will have a huge effect. Unfortunately.

It looked fantastic on her but would look awful on me as am not thin or beautiful!

Bluntness I don't think that's true. You only have to look at the derision all over for strapless dresses and you see everyone compares.
Again, I love my dresses. Are they out now unfashionable? Probably.

Honestly, please don't worry, I don't think your guests will be comparing you to Meghan Markle and I'm sure you will look beautiful in yiur dresses. If you love them that's all that matters.

Her second dress was amazing. First one is nice but the more I look at it the more I think it's unfinished. They certainly werent basic dresses, they just weren't lace puffballs. I was so glad she went with something sleek.

It is what it is. You'll look good in your dress, I'm sure. And tbh all wedding dresses will look dated eventually no matter what you choose, so just wear what you like.

Bluntness I didn't say Meghans was dead basic. Please don't mis quote me. I said unless " you" have a dead basic dress, meaning all the brides who are yet to wear their dresses.

I really don’t think lace is out of fashion now.

I have a strapless satin number for next year. I have not found anything with straps that looks good on me, which is a shame because I would have liked a strapped dress.

Meghan’s basic dress has always been available at Indo-Pakistani bridal boutiques. That specific style is kind of a staple for Muslim brides; but with more embroidery and work than Meghan’s plain dress.

I can see a lot of women trying more simple (for want of a better word) designs, and realising they don't really work for them.

Firstly, that dress was deceptively simple - it isn't simple at all really, just unembellished and the cut etc not something easily replicated off the peg.
Secondly, Meghan is very striking. Most of us would look a bit ordinary in something like that, whereas with her it was the exact opposite.

I got married a few months after William and Catherine. My dress was strapless with no lace. I still think my dress is the most beautiful I've seen because I chose it to suit me perfectly and to suit my wedding day. What other people like or wear is irrelevant.

I think whilst many women may now want a simpler dress, lots will change their mind after trying one on.

‘Simple’ looks great when you have Hollywood good looks, a 5m train, 8 attendants and a chapel in the grounds of a castle. But without all those things, it won’t do much for the average woman.

Loopytiles · 21/05/2018 13:58

Yes, the giant castle was almost an accessory!
