Help me find a venue in the Midlands,

We are looking for a wedding venue for 120 people. Actual wedding will be at a church, so only looking for somewhere for the reception. Trying to keep costs low, and ideally would like somewhere empty/ just tables and chairs that we can hire and do up ourselves! Struggling to know where to start, as wedding websites seem to be offering venues that do a full package for ten grand or more, and that's not really what we want.

Thanks

Village hall?

How about a village hall? Some of the more traditional styles of hall would be quite pretty with some fairy lights and/or bunting strung up, etc.

Alternatively, do you know of anyone with land you could use to erect a marquee?

Whereabouts as the Midlands is a huge area!
Village hall, church hall, marquee?

There's some nice barns and pubs for hire too but depends where you are. I hired a national trust one

You need to narrow it down a bit. 'The Midlands' is a massive area.
Sounds like you want a village hall / community hall / Parish hall type venue. Presumably near the Church ?

I'm in Lichfield, but happy to travel. I can get married in any Catholic Church with permission from my parish - so it doesn't matter it it's Lichfield or further away.

Sharpe's Pottery Museum in Swadlincote? Swadlincote Town Hall? Hilton Village Hall? Don't know anywhere in Lichfield so apologies if these are too far!

Wrong side of town for you but St Nicolas Place in Kings Norton would be perfect

Sta Mary's Catholic Church, in Harborne, Birmingham has a nice hall attached to it, and they have their own bar - would that suit you ?

Depending on dates, what about Repton School? Only 30mins down the A38 from Lichfield, if that.
Not much info online but it certainly used to come empty/just with tables and chairs and the building and grounds are really beautiful.

Things might have changed, but they certainly didn't used to do many weddings so I reckon you'd probably be able to wrangle a bit of a bargain.

Ditto St Bedes prep school - edge of Rugeley (I know Rugeley's awful - but it's away from the town!) near Wolsey Bridge. Again, beautiful building and grounds, and not many weddings there so wiggle room with prices.

Not sure what other schools may do the same, but there's some real bargains to be had at private schools - so long as you're not after a mid-week/Saturday morning term-time wedding. Really lovely old buildings, but as it's not their main source of income and just an nice extra boost to school funds, you can get a "country house" type wedding for what is often a fraction of the cost!

What about a pub or village hall somewhere like Abbots Bromley, Kings Bromley or Alrewas? All near Lichfield but pretty villages. Or you might be able to hire one of the cathedral buildings? Not the actual cathedral but they have the school, and refractory and some other buildings in the Close.
There are a couple of craft centre type places nearby eg Swinfen Heart of the Country. Worth a look on their website?

Yes snuggly! I missed the obvious - Lichfield Cathedral School can be hired for events too!

I have an old connection with the school and I've been to a couple of events there (never a wedding though!). It is lovely, especially as it's right next to the cathedral which is stunning.
