Wedding table flowers - help please!

I have been asked if I can help with these and I can't find anything that would be within the budget...or those old style things where you have the flowers put into a sponge thing?

It's kind of all gone a bit wrong because the bride isn't in the best of health

any advice/suggestions please MNers? It's for Saturday!! Argh.

If a tight budget, I would stick to gypsophila which you can buy in the supermarket for a couple of pounds. Wilko are great for cheap vases too.

How about something like the picture I attached?

I’m a florist, let’s see if I can help. What’s the budget, theme, venue (the ones in the poster above picture would cost about £1 if you can find the jars/wholesaler.

We bought cheap vases at Ikea for my son's wedding. I agree with pp that bunches of gypsophila would look lovely. Stick to just that with maybe just one rose in the bride's colour scheme in the centre. More of one single sort of flower looks very stylish.

You could put some hessian ribbon round the jars, have smaller jars with tealights

Be careful with tea lights and candles as some venues don’t allow them.

Have you looked at Pinterest too? Lots of ideas on there.

hi
thanks everyone

sorry, I made all the suggestions above and they didn't like any of them - hence they were talking about those table arrangements with lots of flowers in a sponge thing....do those even exist?

anyway they said £30 max. The only way we could get a decent display would be a DIY job surely? I don't mind actually arranging them but they are not keen.

Yes they do, the sponge is called Oasis.

TSSDNCOP · 17/03/2018 16:45

Are they taking about £30 per table or £30 total for x tables.

Do you have a Country Baskets near you? If so they will sell them.

They're talking about £30 per table.

It's more the fact that they want a professional arrangement.....I don't know if anyone charges that little for a full vase/bowl of flowers pre-done?

ladypenelope You can buy battery operated tea lights that are very safe, and some last for ages, I recently had one little trooper that lasted for 6 days and nights non stop.

Absolutely any florist will do a very reasonable mixed table arrangement in oasis for £30, probably a lot less.

TSSDNCOP · 17/03/2018 17:01

If you say x tables at £30, no florist would decline the order.

TSSDNCOP - thanks.

I might have to start calling round rather than looking online!

thanks all. Cake

No problem. Does the venue they’re having the wedding at have accredited florists (usually on the venue website)? Start with them.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 17/03/2018 17:27

they don't like any of the accredited florists' offerings.

I must admit, when I said I'd offer to help, I meant to actually physically do the arrangements myself, because it seems to me that the way they can get something they'd like is to buy those specific flowers and I will go along early and get them sorted.

Maybe they're having a stress/fusspot attack. Just spoke to them and it's the groom who is objecting to the original flower plans - I won't give it away but it was nice and simple and now he's saying he wants a big show.

Pfft. (That's the second time today I've needed a "pfft" emoji).

Anyway, thank you all - I'm just going to have to tell him if he is that fussy he will need to visit the florists himself. I'm not in their local area and I think if I'm not doing it myself, then there's no point me trying to do it over phone or web tbh.

thank you everyone, much appreciated, at least now I know what this foam is called if I ever need to do this again! Smile

Oh dear. Back off doing it yourself. It might seem easy but you won’t get a wedding worth of flowers bought, conditioned, watered and arranged in oasis, transported safely and laid out the day of the wedding. I couldn’t do that myself - I’d start at least 2 days before. Fire this back to the Groom.

But if they don't like any of the suggestions in the thread or florists' offerings then what do they want? You have a huge budget at £30 per table, so you should be able to get what you want made to spec unless they're expecting air freighted orchids .

If it's an option can you use bridesmaids bouquets as the flowers? It's what I'm doing.

I done my own bouquets, table top and centre piece and saved loads of money, got foam from the range, and artificial flowers from home bargains/ the range / dunelm and fishbowls and stones from the range as well coat about £200 that includes 8 table centrepieces xx
