Hen Party 7 months Pregnant

Hi,

I am looking for some advice please ladies & gents.

When my best friend gets married next year I will be 36 weeks pregnant and I will be 33 weeks pregnant at her hen party.

For her hen party she is looking to go to a cottage for 3 nights, 2.5 hours away from my house. I don’t know what to do about going? I really want to go but I am a bit worried at how far along pregnant I will be.

The plan is to stay in the cottage one night, one night go into the local city for drinks and one day have a spa day. I just don’t know it is sensible to go. There is talk of getting a mini bus to the cottage but I think i would rather drive myself in case something happens. Only thing is if i did go into labour or needed assistance, we only own one car so my hubby couldn’t come and get me.

I also believe that pregnant ladies can’t really do spa days so I feel if i went there isn’t much I could do.

I feel really confused and frustrated by what to do. I really don’t want to let her down.

It would have been easier if the cottage was closer to home but I don’t want her changing plans for me.

Also, with me being 36 weeks pregnant at her wedding and being chief bridesmaid I don’t know whether to suggest I stand down as I won’t be able to help out much.

In a real dilemma so any advice most welcome :)

I might just be being a tad paranoid and it’s all ifs and buts but again advice welcome :)

I had healthy and active pregnancies right up until the end but I wouldn't have really wanted the responsibility of being CBM at 36 weeks, so if you feel the same I'd politely bow out of that now.

I don't really think the hen is that much of a problem though. You're very unlikely to go into labour or have any complications and I don't see any reason why you couldn't swim, have a massage or manicure at the spa. I'd probably go as long as I had my own transport and could rest/take a break when I fancied.

Have you been pregnant before OP?

I only ask because obviously everyone is different during pregnancy. I am currently 33 weeks and I would have no problems whatsoever going to the weekend you are describing (and even the wedding, standing up bits and all. I'd just sir when I could). In fact, the weekend sounds brilliant and I would love the chance to get away right now!

IF on the very small chance you went into labour, would there be a close family member who could drive DH to you?

At 33 weeeks you're fine to go away. Take your notes and check out where the closest maternity hospital is bur otherwise go and enjoy. I'd take my own carso I could escape early in the evening as staying sober til very late wouldn't be my idea of fun (but then I'd probably escape early even if I wasn't pregnant).

36 weeks pregnant is in the knackering stage, but I was still working full time and there's no reason you shouldn't enjoy yourself. Only thing with being a bridesmaid is that there will be lots of photographs - and not everyone feels happy with how they look when very pregnant, but ymmv. Have you got your outfit sorted?

Also I'm not really sure what your concerns about the spa day are. Swimming pool, sun lounger, manicure, facial, sounds great! A lot of spas do pregnancy massages too.

You might still feel great at 36 weeks - a neighbour of mine was bridesmaid at her sisters wedding when heavily pregnant and danced until 3am (Irish wedding!) - she was near her due date, gave birth a week later!

I think 33 weeks would be fine to go; it’s still quite far from when your baby is due so unless you’ve got any pregnancy complications I would go. It sounds like it would be better to go in the mini bus though as if there were any issues you’re husband can drive down to you and if that were to happen then you would not be driving back.
There are certain things you can’t do at the spa like the jacuzzi and sauna but at 33 weeks a swimming pool is lovely to be in and you could have a special pregnancy massage which you’d really appreciate at that stage.
I’d have some spare money on the night you all go for drinks so you could get a taxi home earlier if you wanted as you might get a bit bored/tired on a night out but then equally you may be enjoying a late spurt of energy.
Talk to your midwife as well for reassurance.

At 33 weeks you're fine to go.. And pregnant women can do spa days! You just don't use the jacuzzi or steam room, plenty of other choices. I was chief bridesmaid at 39 weeks, two hours from home . We just took our hospital bags with us in case we needed them. We didn't!
Don't let your friend down. All this can be done if you Want to

I too would be nervous. I gave birth at 34 weeks with no warning (the baby wasn’t engaged at all two days earlier) and from waters breaking to birth it was only a couple of hours. I was feeling fine and energetic the day before and had it not been a Saturday, I’d have been at work as I was planning on working a month longer! I know this is fairly unusual but not as unusual as I thought prior to having a premature labour.

So I would share you worries with your friend. If you were my bridesmaid, I wouldn’t be offended at all if you didn’t go for your reasons. I’d probably try and go for the spa day though if I felt up to it
