Making plans if the vote goes our way

As Australia is about to have a vote to legalise same sex marriage, DP and I have started making plans to get married, in the hope that the result is Yes.

I never realised how much of a control freak I was until DP started offering her own opinions on what she wants from her wedding day! It's really hard to try and come to an agreement on the silly, little things but at least we're in agreement on the big things.

I really hope this vote results in a Yes, otherwise it's going to be such a disappointment.

Really hope the vote goes your way!

Remember that what is important is the marriage not the wedding day. I am sure that both of you would agree that if the choice was between a wedding day where nothing is quite how you want it but a marriage where everything was just as you hoped, vs a wedding day where everything is exactly how you want it but a marriage where nothing goes right - you would both choose the former wouldn't you? (If not, don't get married)

So split up the decisions, each of you getting an equal number of decisions you really care about. Make sure your compromises are roughly even. If you both try to outdo one another in ensuring that the other person gets the wedding day they want, then you won't go too wrong.

Well, it's been confirmed that the country is definitely heading to the "non-legally binding survey" and the voting papers are being sent out this week.

With any luck we'll have a definitive decision by the end of November, but certainly before parliament closes for Christmas. The PM has said that he will vote YES but it all depends on the general vote within the population, with a NO consensus the vote won't get to parliament, and the MPs voting in favour too.

I'm desperately hoping it is a YES, we've been together 11 years and it's about time we made it all legal.

We've managed to reach some fantastic compromises on what we want, but I'm being careful not to sacrifice what I want just to make DP happy. I've a terrible history of that and it will only lead to long term resentment if I don't change.

I really hope you get the vote. We are same sex couple getting married in January next year and are so excited.
On compromising I would say if theres something either absolutely hates then it doesn't get done but anything else just make sure you both get a fair share of what you want x

Well, the survey results were I favour of same sex marriage, the senate has confirmed the law can be changed and the bill is currently being debated in parliament. We should have a full change in the law by the end of the year!!!

As a result we’ve set the date :) 27th July 2019. So excited, terrified, nervous and stressed already but it will be worth it :)

So the law changed today :) it’s now official - DP and I can get married!! (Good job too as we’ve already started planning and buying stuff!)
