Wedding car or plain taxi for the bride?

As the title says really - my niece is getting married in a few weeks and had planned to use a normal taxi to get her to church, nothing fancy, it's not her thing, but now my sister is going her ends; apparently it should be a proper wedding car etc etc.

So I thought I'd ask mumsnet what the general consensus is - Does it really matter!?

(We walked! So my opinion is null and void according to my sister!)

It depends on how much money they have - if it's going to make them broke they'd be daft to spend the money on a car. Or maybe your sister could pay, given how upset she is?

If it's not her thing, she's fine taking a normal taxi. I wouldn't want my sister to waste money on something I didn't want.

Does any of the family who are guests have a nice car she could go in and stick some ribbon on? BMW, Mercedes or Audi?

We did a very budget wedding and j was fully expecting to be taken to the church in my dads old rover! I was shocked on the day when a vintage rolls Royce pulled up, my dad organised it as a surprise. I would never have spent the money on it myself but it was so lovely, and our pictures of us in it are some of the best. I was a very no frills, no fuss bride if that helps. BUT my dad had told dh a few months beforehand and I think if dh thought I'd object he would have tactfully said something

I ended up in a mini cab to get to my wedding because the car we hired broke down on the way to pick me up. Bloody nightmare it was at the time. When I got to the registry office everyone was already inside so they wouldn't have seen the fancy car even if I had managed to get there in it! Wish I'd just booked the taxi to start off with.

It's not a big deal at all. She probably doesn't have a huge budget and has prioritised it elsewhere - hopefully on her guests Grin

In the scheme of things I'd say it's not important, really - nice to have, for photographs, but not essential. She's in it for ten minutes, with her dad, everyone's in church when she arrives, and then it's gone. Will the same taxi be taking her and her DH to the reception?

I suppose the key factor is whether her dress will get crushed or marked in a 'normal' taxi? It would need to be spotlessly clean before she gets into it in a white dress...
