What reasons haven't you chosen a venue?

I visited two today (no names obviously)

The first I was drooling over, so gorgeous and the lady showing us around was so lovely and attentive.

However, the second, which I had been quite looking forward to seeing was struck off our list almost immediately. Firstly, the woman didn't even know why we were there. She showed us the whole place in 8 minutes (yes I timed it), corkage was £15 a bottle and we were just made to feel like we were being a nuisance for even looking around.

That's them out of the running for thousands of pounds of business.

I dismissed one place because there was no outside seating at all, and inside the structure of the place meant it was very echoey and loud. £10 corkage fee too.

Oh, and they wanted a £1500 deposit.

Price!!

I was not going to pay £600 for a few hours in the evening. This was just for the hall. No decorations, no food, no drink. That was all additional cost

I discounted one because it was too close to a main road- you could hear buses trundling past all the time and it didn't have the country-ish feel that I wanted.
Kind of discounted another (had the ceremony & meal there, then moved for reception) because they closed the bar at 10pm sharp.
DH refused one as it felt like you were on a conveyor belt and it was a bit cliche, and another because they held other weddings there at the same time.

Mostly for ridiculous costs or a production line feeling.
I went with somewhere not particularly fancy but with really attentive staff and fair prices.

We had our heart set on one venue, went to look round and just felt 'uncomfortable'. It was a Best Western, but the staff seemed really condescending & uninterested. On the way home, we went to our local leisure park for a commiseration burger & drink, then clocked that they had a function suite. We asked to look round it out of interest, and although the staff were rushed off their feet, they couldn't have been more obliging. One of the bar staff personally sought someone out to give us a tour, and we were shown photos from previous weddings to show us how it could be set up, they talked to us for ages & gave us an immediate quote. The whole feel of the place was lovely, so we went home, talked about it a bit more then booked it that night.
