Evening Wedding

My DP and I would like to get married. However we've both been married before and done the big white wedding.

This time we'd like to focus more on the things and people more important to us and less on a stressful big day.

We are struggling on ways to get married. He wants a party, I'd be quite happy with the two of us, our son and a couple of close friends/family. I'd also like to not spend thousands and thousands.

I was wondering - can you get married in the evening? Would it be possible to have a late, candle lot style ceremony in a party venue? Rather than ceremony, meal, party and two sets of guests?

I think that marriages are only legal if performed in daylight hours.



Its odd but I am sure I heard that. So you would need to check that "evening" would be legal.

Some churches don't though. You'd have to check availability at other venues individually.

I think a wedding by candle light would be really lovely.

Thank you - I will have to check with the local registrar then and find out if they will allow it. It sounds like its up to the local council whether they offer it or not.

I have an image of a candle lit room, a fairly informal ceremony with all the guests gathered around rather than formally seated and lashings of bubbles! Canapés and a nice buffet. That way we get to have everyone at both the ceremony and party without all the formalities!

By way of update for anyone else considering this - Kent council have confirmed that they will hold ceremonies up to 8pm at registered premises - but will also consider special requests. Yay!!
