Undecided if you are going to do a bride's speech?

Just do it! I got married yesterday and was in two minds whether I was going to or not. Had nothing prepared, but when the moment came I stood up and said "I'd like to say something..." The loud cheer that followed was amazing! It's one of my favourite memories of the day Grin

So, if you're a mouthy old bird like me, have a speech. Your friends and family will love it, and do will you!

Good for you! I don't understand why the bride is required to sit all demure whilst her Husband, Dad and Best Man get to tell stories about her, especially in this day and age when she's likely to have paid for the event.

This is my idea of hell.

I thanked everyone for coming. And made special mention to some friends who pulled out all the stops and decorated the reception room for us while we were at the ceremony. They did a fabulous job.

I also said how we both wished other people could have attended, some who lived abroad, some with work commitments, and others who were no longer with us - phrasing that was the hardest bit. No one wants to talk about dead people in a wedding speech do they? Even if it was Halloween. That actually went down quite well, particularly with the relatives.

I would recommend writing something though because off the cuff speaking isn't so easy when you've had lots of wine!

Saying that I wanted the last word - as normal - also raised a loud laugh. Grin

I did one too and, although I was completely cacking myself a bit nervous beforehand, I'm so glad I did. I thanked my DH for being lovely and doing so much work in the run-up to the wedding (we had a very DIY affair!) and read out a funny quote.

I'd also recommend it, but I went first to get it out the way, so I'd actually be able to relax and enjoy everyone else's speech!

I did, I couldn't not (the tail in my user-name is there because I rabbit on). It was also my Dad's birthday so I had an excuse.

I'm going to do one. I agree with the fact that the Bride gets given away and then has to listen to Men say nice things (hopefully) about her! I want to be able to thank the people my DF is bound to forget!

I wasn't given away. I had the choice, but decided to walk up the aisle with our children instead of my Dad. They loved it, Dad was fine with it too.

Do things how you and your spouse want. It's your day!

I didn't want to do one. Really DH didn't want to do one either and HATES public speaking so he said something very lovely and very brief before dinner so he could enjoy his meal!
